Chapter 21: Grief
When the news spread out like wildfire inside the health facility, it was total chaos. Everyone is emotionally, mentally, and physically devastated about what happened to Bianca. They were at so much loss and shocked. Some couldn't accept the fact that their friend is gone. It's the truth now. They have to accept it. They haven't seen and talked to her for a few days or even weeks and then they will be just hearing this crazy news that she died.
No, she took her own life and no one knows why. Apparently, no one.
Bianca's mentally ill, everyone inside the premises is, and the doctors could only know what happen. If they did something to it or it is because of them, none of them could rule it out. Doctors are politically liars, or maybe they are just looking after everyone's well-being.
She looked and stared at him for a minute, she couldn't get into her emotion as what he does. At the time she needed her emotion the most, she lose it.
She can't grieve for the loss of her friend. She cannot feel any emotion about this unfair death. It was wrecked. Heart-wrenching to watch how they took her off from being hung. All she could ever do was think of that moment and could feel nothing. She thought maybe that it was a good thing not to feel anything so she can focus on what she was doing—on what she should have known.
They were all crying, but not all trying to act like everything is okay because it is not. Some may not what really happened, but some knew why—and they said, Bianca might think that everything's happening to her was too much so she ended it as she know it was the only possible way to not continue with the suffering she keeps enduring.
But no one knows the truth, it was just a thought, but the doctors could say a thing... but Therrie didn't believe them at this moment. She never believed every word they said.
"Therrie at Benji."
Therrie couldn't believe that the doctor wanted to hide the things they have seen.
The doctor just wanted them to say about the good things that happened and not the parts where they haven't seen her for a few weeks and haven't been around to talk to them.
At that point, it was suspicious for Therrie that the doctor manipulated them, but if she cracked and told them the truth, they could do something bad to her and that might lead to something worse.
But Therrie believes it was all orchestrated.
Bianca didn't die by taking her own life. That's what she got in her mind, but has no proof and courage to let it out since they might just say that Therrie's making it all up—and ironic to say, Therrie had gone crazy for believing that.
She tried not to meet their eyes, but then the emotions lingered around and Therrie felt sorry she couldn't feel the same grief with them. She couldn't even smile, that would be rude and stupid to do.
They could only say good things about their daughter because they know the burden and suffering of what it could be done to their family.
Therrie was hugged by Bianca's parents. They did the same thing to Benji. They never even had the chance to see Bianca.
"I'm sorry..." Therrie said, looking away. "I wish we could've done something..."
"No, no, that's okay..." Bianca's mom sobbed.
"Yeah, both of you have been a great friend to Bianca..." pagpapatuloy ni Doctor Carmona. "I think you guys should go back to your rooms now and take a rest."
When both of them were escorted back, biglang ang daming pumasok sa isip ni Therrie na gusto niyang sabahin at gawin.
When Therrie thought she was safe to go back to the visiting lounge, she hurriedly went there, but before she could even get there, she was grabbed and caught.
Doctor Carmona and Doctor Rivera were still there with Bianca's family and they saw her back.
"What's happening here?" Nakangiting tanong ni Doctor Carmona. But in the back of her mind, she knows that Therrie won't do any good and this action of hers would only cost some trouble.
Umiling ang staff. "Just a misunderstanding, doc."
"They did something to Bianca!" sigaw ni Therrie. The doctor keep her composure still while thinking what they could do to Therrie.
Confusion sets in Bianca's parents' face and totally bombarded with this news, hindi nila alam kung paniniwalaan nila ang sinabi ni Therrie, because after that she wasn't able to defend herself and support what she said. Doctor Carmona, of course, came to the rescue and make them believe that Therrie's gone hysterical and might've not been taking her pills off.
That's what they reasoned out, but Therrie wanted to prove something to them, but she knows words aren't enough. And she knows that at the end of the day, she'll be punished for what she did. Walang maniniwala sa kanya.
Because she wasn't wrong when she was put back into her room. Locked up and never got out even if it was dinner time. They just gave her some pills to drink and if she didn't take it, they threatened her to be put back in the private rooms where they found Bianca's dead hung body.
But Therrie didn't take the pills, she withdrew them when no one was watching her. She just flushed it on the toilet and let no one know about what she did. She knows the pills won't actually help her. It just makes her sleepy, tired, and mentally exhausted. It wasn't good for her.
She was laying down on her bed, figuring out what she could do next. If the doctors aren't helping them anymore, she thought she should act because this won't be the last thing that could happen.
Nine in the evening, Therrie's still wide awake, she was just three hours away before she could feel anything. Something that she would gain and would lose right after again. A moment later, she heard timid few knocks on the door and called her name and asked if she was awake or asleep.
Therrie didn't answer, so a minute later, she heard the door being unlocked and the door opened and someone walked inside the room. The person she doesn't want to see at this time.
"Good evening, Therrie," Doctor Carmona greeted, nakangiti pa itong sinuri ang dalaga. "I'm here because you know what happened earlier, right? I've told both of you not to say anything to Bianca's parents because we will sort it out. And good thing, we did. Bianca's funeral is on Friday and Doctor Rivera and I will be joining them there as a sign of respect. They've asked if both of you could be there, too, but we declined. It's good if you and Benji stayed inside the facility. It's for everyone's safety..."
"It seems like you've been behaving now," ani ng doctor. Roaming her eyes around Therrie's small, darkroom.
"If you are hungry, you have your meal on your table. Magpakabusog ka. We don't want you to starve and if you needed something else, just asked one of the staff. I'll be going now, Therrie..., and oh, just to remind you, we didn't do anything to Bianca. Why would we do something bad to her, right? We were just talking to her... that's all."
She immediately left the room and Therrie somehow thought about what she have said, but it's not making sense why it would lead to Bianca's death. If she could replace her position there, it would be fine for Therrie. She wanted to die and she thought she deserves to be at that moment rather than Bianca.
She doesn't want to wake up anymore losing a single emotion every day and she's tired of it.
Therrie didn't touch her food and as the time goes by so quickly that when midnight strikes, she couldn't handle her emotion. It took over her. She was filled with so much grief she couldn't stop crying... whatever she had lost today, it was okay for her... at least, for now, she could feel something.
But finally, she could grieve for someone who is braver than her. Was she?
