[FOUR] On a Wrong Name Basis
Same shit different day.
The last two days had sped by quickly, compared to the first day at the hell that my school - Wesley High is.
I had to admit, not speaking to, and barely seeing Theo left me feeling slightly disappointed, considering how he was pretty much everywhere I seemed to be on Monday.
I watched as students dispersed from the school grounds, some chasing after their buses, some getting picked up by their parents, others piling into eachother's cars. And then there's me, walking to the burger place that is, creatively named, The Burger Place. For a job interview.
As I'm walking along the slight inclined sidewalk, I look down to assess my choice of clothes and scrunch my face a little. Ripped black jeans and converses aren't exactly what I'd call professional, but this was a kind of a spur of the moment decision when they called me during Lunch today, in response to the resume I dropped in yesterday.
It didn't take long before the doorbell chimed as I entered the restaurant. The sound of conversations and music filled my ears, and the smell of food earned a rumble from my stomach.
"Can I get a table for you?" A male voice asked.
I whipped my head around to see a tall waiter, dressed in a white shirt which illuminated against his tanned skin with his sleeves rolled up and an apron around his waist. He looked at me with big grey eyes expectantly.
"Oh uh, actually I'm here for a job interview." I chuckled, nervously shifting my weight from my left side to my right.
He lifted his chin and thought for a moment. From the slight stubble growing on his jawline I figured he must have been around 20 years old. Suddenly his eyes opened a little wider and he nodded slightly.
"You're names Anna, right?" He leant back against the empty table behind him and slung a towel he was holding over his shoulder.
"No it's-" I went to correct him but he mustn't have noticed.
"My manager told me you would be coming," He began walking, and he gestured for me to follow him. He glanced at his wristwatch and lifted an eyebrow before looking back up at me. "You're ten minutes early."
"Yeah I came straight from school." I gave him a small smile and shrugged my shoulders slightly.
He looked down and took in my appearance, "No wonder." He chuckled lightly. "So, Anna. You want a drink while you wait?" He offered as he made his way behind the counter.
"I'm not sure if that's the best idea before a job interview..." I replied, ignoring the fact that he called me Anna.
He let out a loud laugh. "Jesus I didn't mean an alcoholic one," he countered before laughing again. "Besides, what kind of person would I be to serve a minor?" He said seriously, but his face quickly formed a grin.
"Oh gosh." I whispered, running a hand through my hair.
I took a seat on one of the stools, leaving my bag on the floor next to me. I sighed and checked the time on my phone. Still seven minutes before my interview starts.
I've never been a fan of silence so I decided to start up a conversation with the waiter. "How long have you been working here?" I asked, not looking up from my phone.
"This is on me." He smiled, and a strand of dirty blonde hair fell over his eyes as he leaned over, handing me a glass of lemonade.
I was surprised, but offered him a quick thanks before gratefully taking it from him. He nodded his head.
"Hm," He started, as if he was doing the maths in his head. "I started after I graduated, so a couple of months ago" I nodded before throwing another question at him.
"Really? What college did you go to?" I realised that sounded a little bit too creepy for a stranger, and the confused expression on his face didn't help.
"What? I haven't started college yet, I've decided to defer the year and save up my money, maybe do some travelling." He said casually.
My mouth opened a little bit when I realised he must only be 19, maybe even younger. Not knowing what to say, I took a sip of my drink.
"What's with all the questions?" He smirked.
I didn't have time to answer, even though if I did I wasn't sure what I would reply, because the door to what I assume is the Managers office opened, and a young woman stepped out. I took this as my cue to leave, and smiled at the waiter.
"See you around," He shot me a smile.
I picked up my bag and took a deep breath as I walked toward the office.
The woman who must have been in her late twenties eyes lit up when she saw me. "Alana! Nice to meet you," She offered her hand and I accepted, firmly shaking it.
"You too," I replied as she led me into the office. I took a seat in the chair opposite her desk as she also sat down.
"My name is Samantha, but just call me Sam." Sam smiled.
I nodded.
"So, tell me a bit about yourself!" Sam smiled a little to wide, I was sure she wasn't that interested in my life story, but I went with it.

I couldn't say that I wasn't feeling pretty great about the interview. I felt like I had answered all of Sam's questions confidently. She said she would call me sometime this week to tell me if I got the job or not.
Now, I was heading home with a little bit of a skip in my step. But my little moment of happiness was crushed when it started raining. Like, really raining. I quickly seeker shelter under a tree and groaned. It may have been a short walk from school to here, but my house was about a fifteen minute walk and I wasn't about to get myself and all my things soaked in the rain. I guess I'd have to wait it out. Ten minutes later and the rain was consistently getting heavier. I was freezing and this tree wasn't doing much to protect me. I decided that I was going to jump in the next car I saw.
"Need a ride?" Someone called out over the sound of the rain.
Oh God please do not be him.
I take back what I said!
You can't be serious.
How did I get so unlucky?
Theo leant over and opened his car door. I tried to think of an excuse as to why I shouldn't get in his car.
But guess what I did? I got in his car.
"Woah." He said, staring at me dramatically.
I prayed that my hoodie hadn't gone see through.
"What!" I asked, making an effort to cover my chest.
"Did Alana just willingly get into my car?" Theo's shocked expression tempted me to laugh, but I didn't want to give him the satisfaction.
"Shut up and drive." I rolled my eyes.
"Ooh, feisty." He smirked.
I gave Theo a pointed look. He sighed and pulled out onto the road.
"Of all people who could have driven past." I muttered to myself.
"It's just fate tying to tell us we belong together." Theo turned his attention to me and winked, jokingly.
"In your dreams." I snorted.
"Babe you know you want me." He teased.
"Ew don't ever call me that again." I scrunched up my face, crossing my arms over my chest and looking out the window.
"You love it though." Theo reached out to ruffle my hair. I jerked away from him.
"I hate it." And I hate you. I wanted to say.
"If it helps you sleep at night." He sighed. "Where am I driving you anyway?" His tone completely changed, as if he only just realised I had a destination.
Shit.
I didn't want Theo to know where I lived! That probably sounds dramatic, but it's Theo Archer we're talking about!
I chewed my lip.
"Are you homeless or something?" Theo joked lightly. "You can always come back to my place." He winked at me and I just stared at him in disgust.
I sighed and told him my address. Thankfully, he knew the street and we were at my house pretty quickly. I wasted not time in getting out of his car and shouting a quick thanks before running to my doorstep through the rain. I scavenged through my bag in search for my keys and unlocked the door when I finally retrieved them. Once inside, I leant against the closed door and let out a big breath I didn't know I was holding.
What a day.
