Stay Alive

Signe, Amy, Ethan, and Tyler walked ahead of Jack and Nate, whom was still a little unsteady on his feet.

"That song you sang earlier, Boulevard of Broken Dreams...it sounded absolutely beautiful." Jack complimented Nate. The others murmured their agreements while Nate's face blushed a light red hue, humbled.

"Thanks." He said softly with a smile.

"The city seemed too quiet with everyone gone, so I would make music to kind of distract me from everything going wrong in the world." He continued, looking down at his feet.

"We should all sing something!" Ethan suggested excitedly.

"What's a song you guys know?" Nate glanced around at the group.

"Don't Stop Believing!" Jack yelled, earning a laugh from Nate.

"Amy and Signe can sing the girl part and we'll sing the guys part.." Nate cleared his throat, adjusting his guitar before strumming his guitar once more.

"Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world,
She took the midnight train going anywhere,"

Amy and Signe sang, their voices in unison.

"Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit,
He took the midnight train going anywhere,"

Nate's voice created harmony with Tyler's deep voice as well as Jack and Ethan's higher pitched voices.

"Streetlights, people, living just to find emotion,
Hiding, somewhere in the night!"

Jack's and Ethan's voices cracked during the last note, but no one really cared.

"Don't stop, believing!" Jack instinctively took Nate's mic he had stored in his pocket out and sang into it like a rock star.

Abruptly Nate froze and he stopped playing his guitar, staring at the object in Jack's hand as if he was holding a gun and pointing it at him. The others glanced back to see if he was okay and noticed what he was looking at.

"I-I meant to give this to you sooner, but..." Jack trailed off, offering Nate the mic with an apologetic smile.

"I never had the courage to look through-" Nate swallowed hard, gently taking the mic and turning it over in his hands, tracing his finger across the duct tape.

"Thank you." He whispered, barely audible.

It only took a couple of moments before everyone started singing again and Nate was back to playing guitar, laughing as they messed up pitches or words.

Only they didn't know they weren't alone.

A lone figure was following them, being cautious to stay out of sight. For now. He could be patient for a couple more hours.

Soon enough, Nate, Jack, Tyler, Ethan, Amy, and Signe arrived at the crash site, the wreckage now a smoldering husk.

No one was there.

"It feels like we're in Outlast Two." Jack shuddered, remembering the gruesome horror game.

"All that's missing is a monster. That's probably what you're thinking, right?" The lone figure that had been following them finally revealed their self.

"Jordan?" Signe gasped in surprise.

His face was a burnt mess, the skin on his arms and face heavily scarred. All of his hair was gone, and he was only dressed in a pair of jeans. The only reason they knew it was Jordan was because his eyes still looked the same, although they now burned with anger and hatred.

You left me to die!" He accused them with a scowl.

"We didn't know you were alive!" Tyler countered.

"I watched you grab your suitcase and run, leaving me in the dust." He spat vehemently.

"Look, we're really sorry-"

"You think an apology can fix what you did to me?" He interrupted Jack, gesturing at himself.

"I'm running out of time, I'm running and my time's up, wise up, eyes up." He spoke in a quieter tone, his voice cracking with emotion.

"My mother is on the other side, my son is on the other side." Jordan began pacing around like a wild animal, a crazed gleam in his eyes.

"Rise up rise up rise up-"

"Stop it!" Amy yelled, cutting off Jordan's chanting.

"Raise a glass to the four of us." He whipped a gun out of the waistband of his jeans and pulled the trigger twice. One shot hit Amy in the ribs, the other going into Tyler's shoulder.

Tyler staggered from the impact, but didn't fall while Amy collapsed onto her knees, Signe rushing over to her while Ethan went to Tyler, Nate and Jack glaring at Jordan to make sure he didn't fire again.

They didn't have to watch him for long.

Jordan pressed the gun to the side of his head, peacefully closing his eyes before he pulled the trigger. He died instantly, blood splattering the ground.

"Don't worry about me." Tyler waved Ethan off, tearing part of the hem of his shirt off to use to staunch the flow of blood.

"Hey, I need you to stay awake, okay?" Nate gently shook Amy's shoulder. She grumbled something incoherent in response, face screwed up in pain as she looked up at the sky, tears streaming down her face.

"I'll tell Mark hi for you guys." She coughed, causing the blood from her sound to flow out faster. Ethan had already removed his hoodie and was using bits of it to stop the blood.

"Don't say that, you're going to be fine." Signe said, mainly to assure herself.

"Hey, remember when we went to Pax and took all those pictures?" Jack asked, his eyes trained on hers so he wouldn't have to look at he wound.

"Yeah." She choked out with a weak laugh, blood beginning to trail from the corner of her mouth.

"Sh, just save your strength and stay alive." Ethan instructed, blinking back tears.

"I'll finally get the chance to tell Mark..."

Amy never finished her sentence.

Her eyes remained open, staring lifelessly at the cloudy sky. Her mouth was still open, traces of a smile still visible on her extremely pale face.

"Amy!" Signe shrieked, fighting against Jack as he pulled her away from Amy's dead body. She beat Jack's chest with her first before collapsing against him, burying her face in his sweatshirt.

Tyler, Nate, and Ethan remained silent, neither of them sure how to react. They felt fury boiling in heir veins, but they also felt a strong desire to curl up into a ball, not caring if they died too.

The group sat in silence for a moment, no one able to look at Amy's body until Tyler spoke up.

"We have to bury her." He said softly, as if talking would make everyone burst into tears.

"With what? Besides, there's no ground to bury her under, just concrete."  Nate interjected.

I'll carry her to the park if I have to, I'm not leaving her!" Ethan scooped her up in his arms to prove his point.

Only he couldn't hold onto her for a long time.

He gagged, dropping her body before turning around and vomiting away from her, his head spinning as he sank to his knees in defeat.

"Let's get out of here." Jack helped Ethan stand while he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, allowing Signe to hold onto his hand while he started walking back to Nate's shelter.

"Hang on." Tyler entered the building the helicopter had crashed into, still remembering the reason they had showed up in the first place. For Bob, Mandy, Molly, and Wade.

"Hey guys!" Tyler briefly poked his head out of the door.

"Found them!" He stated before disappearing back inside. The others exchanged wary glances before following him inside.
