War at a Japanese Dance
The dance went in into the night, Chieko played many songs, and played requests as well. It was three hours later did her shift end and so did many of the dancers; for they only came for Chieko's skills with songs. She descended the stairs, and Ryuzaki was there to greet her.
"Hello Chieko." He greeted pleasantly.
"Hello Ryuuga." She chirped her reply and walked over to him as her indigo dress outlined her figure; making her seem much younger than she was trying to be. "Nice night."
"Yes. It is." He replied with a slight smile on his face. He kept his hair the same, but decided on having the decency of putting black dress shoes on as well as a tux jacket. He still wore his long sleeved white shirt underneath and jeans though. Chieko almost laughed at Ryuzaki's effort on acting normal.
"I was never one for the American rap favorites." She cringed at Uptown Funk as it was played at full volume as the American exchange students rocked out until they seemed like drunken walruses. The thought was silly enough to make Chieko laugh happily.
"Me either." He agreed with a nod of his head, but smiled slightly at Chieko's own smile. "It is almost seems inaccurate the way the singers sing so fast; most likely they speed up the track so they may fit more words into a phrase."
"That seems about accurate; your theory." Chieko replied. She placed her hands into her hips and leaned her weight to one leg as she watched the dance floor in a frenzy. What are you doing? Chieko asked herself.
My father is dead because of a murderer, and here I am at a Japanese dance without a single lead.
She had almost forgotten the entire reason she had come; her father. The whole mission came back to her in a blur, and suddenly she felt so much guilt in what she was doing. Chieko scratched at her styled auburn hair before turning in her heels to the exit. But low and behold; Light Yagami stood between her and her destination.
"Hey Chieko, I was wondering where you ran off to." He bowed slightly, and held his hand out for her to take just as the song changed to Ed Sheeran. "Would you honor me with a dance?" At this moment the two were surrounded by couples on all sides as they both swooned and grumbled at Chieko's offer.
"I-Um, I don't dance." She directed her gaze down to Light's hand; hesitant to trust. Yet her lie was not well thought out as she had hoped not to stay long anyway at the dance due to no ability to dance. Light gave a nervous smile, which Chieko recognized the smirk in his tone.
"That's alright. I'll show you." He assured her, and took the moment to grab her hand gently to lead. Chieko gasped at his assured movements as they slightly danced to the music's beat. She looked at and tried to focus on Light's feet as they moved LIGHTly (A/N: lol.) across the polished wooden floor in the barely visible room. Others joined in soon enough, and Chieko physically calmed, but kept her eyes down casted to their feet where she tried to keep up with her partner.
"You know," she felt Light chuckle against her which only made her blood run cold. "my face is up here." He took his index finger and thumb and pushed up her chin where he was met with a emotionally confused Chieko.
"I know." She huffed angrily before tossing her head to the side where here bangs were thrown from her eyesight. "I told you I don't dance." She repeated. He laughed aloud before pulling her even closer; to her dislike. She had never seen this side of Light, and she didn't like it.
"Chieko," another voice interrupted, and a pair of hands was on her arm as they pulled her out of Light's grasp. She looked behind her to see Ryuzaki; calm face as ever. "May I have this next dance?" He asked and the song abruptly ended to hear another slow song play. She smiled knowingly, and accepted with vigor.
"Thanks for that save." She whispered to him as they both danced slowly. She had placed her hands around his neck while Ryuzaki had his in the middle of her waist; not too high, not too low. He nodded curtly before darting his large dark eyes to every small corner of the gym.
"It was nothing." He dismissed, "but the real problem we have is,"
"I believe Kira is someone in this room. Right now."
Chieko agreed and explained she had the same conclusion. Kira had been quiet for a whole week, and if he even did kill anyone, they were low-profile and most likely to have a heart attack to begin with. Which means he had been either busy the past week, or strategically placed his deaths.
Either way, when you look at the deaths in a map, none of them came close to TO-OH University. Which is very suspicious.
"What are you thinking of?" Ryuzaki asked her as he twirled her away before he pulled her back softly. She let a smile slip back onto her face as his hands finally relaxed on her waist. They had been crushing her for most of the song, and she was beginning to believe he would never let go.
"That you're a better dancer than Light." She joked, and they both chuckled. Ryuzaki felt his hands lightened their grip even more on his partner's sides as he began to relax his nervous feeling. His knowledge of dancing was forgotten in the back of his memory; something he'd never use until today.
"I took lessons when I was quite young, but I never used the knowledge."
"May I ask why?" She asked curiously, which only brought Ryuzaki's eyes to look deeper into Chieko's.
"Never found the right dance partner." He replied briskly, causing her to roll her eyes and let out a short laugh at the answer. He shrugged, and let go as the song ended; as did Chieko.
"I'm going to get a drink." She informed him before walking off and leaving Ryuzaki alone once again. He felt a bit more,...what was the word he was looking for?
Ah, yes.
He felt a bit more human with Chieko than he ever did.
"Ah, Ryuuga, I didn't think you would come." Light swallowed a scowl as he approached him. The one moment Light had to learn more about Chieko, and yet Ryuzaki ended it abruptly.
"Yes," Ryuzaki set a thumb to his lower lip once more. Deep in thought as he had begun slouching once more. "I thought it would be educational to see what kind of environment Kira was in if he were a regular university student." With this, Light saw L's black pupils stare at him with suspicion held in high regard. Shit. What would he do?
"Well, either way, I hope you have fun tonight." Light smiles a fake smile again, and he could hear Ryuk, his Shinigami laughing loudly behind him.
"You're losing this war!~" Ryuk grinned his vicious and maniacal teeth at the infuriated Light Yagami. He swaggered over to Kira unafraid of his glare that was fire and ice.
"I see now." He looked back at Ryuzaki as Chieko had just returned with a glass of punch for both herself and Ryuzaki. "This is war. And I'm losing the prize to L." He whispered to himself; loathing his admittance to the fact.
"So you really think that Kira would try and make himself noticed? Not try and blend into the crowd here?" Ryuzaki asked Chieko with a curious tone. She nodded, and flicked her gaze to Light who was rejecting every girl's offer for a dance.
"Absolutely." She confirmed. Though there was no shred of evidence, the only person intelligent enough to play this game was Light Yagami. Who else would make the Japanese police dance like monkeys?
"Yet, even if there is a 95% chance he is Kira, we still need to keep him close. The only way we can ever solve this case now is through teamwork." Ryuzaki agreed. Chieko chuckled, causing Him to look at the young detective with a straight, yet confused face.
"I always said there's no 'I' in teamwork." She muttered low enough for only them to hear.
"Well, then again, there's no 'L' in murder either." Ryuzaki countered with a shrug. She laughed at this, throwing back some of her well curled hair over her shoulder in the action. Ryuzaki once again found himself unable to look away as she laughed joyfully.
"True, true, but let's get back to the subject at hand. Kira would know how hard it was to be a regular student and still have the brains to get away with what he's doing, so he has to be intelligent. And if your that smart, it's hard to keep it a secret and not be a show off." Chieko finished. Taking the last sip of her punch as Light waltzed over to her.
"Ryuuga, please excuse me, but would Chieko like to dance with me?" Light asked again, but he was politely rejected.
"I'm sorry, but it's almost midnight, and I'd like to get some sleep before tomorrow comes." She began to walk over to her purse, with both men following closely behind.
"Yes, it is rather late." Ryuzaki agreed, and he bid farewell to both Light and Chieko before dwpartung through the crowd. The lights were still flashing, and the music still blared loudly as Light escorted Chieko Miyamoto out and back to her cozy little dorm.
"Thank you for coming with me tonight." Chieko smiled faintly at him, and he did so back.
"It was my pleasure." He replied; taking her hand in his own and placing a quick kiss to her hand before dropping it and walking back to his own house. Once inside, Chieko tossed her bag onto the couch and picked up the phone.
"Yes, Watari?" She asked, and there was a soft silence. "We'll start bugging the Yagami's house tomorrow afternoon; when no one is there."
