Part 4- Gally
Grace loved him, I could tell. He made her happy. I had to get him, I had to find him, I had to save him. Grace was like a sister to me and I couldn't let anything happen to her. Or to Newt.
These were my thoughts as I ran through the maze, only guessing at where I was going. This was the first time I've been out here- I didn't know what I was doing.
I turned corner after corner, looking for any sign of Newt. I was starting to tire. I was slowing down significantly. My breaths were getting heavier. My side was aching. I don't know how the runners do this every day.
I glanced at a wall and saw a flicker of words pop up. I slowed down and walked over to where I saw the words. I lifted the ivy to get a clear view of the wall.
Words were flickering on the wall, but I could only make out cliff and real. I'd have to tell Minho about it later. But I can't worry about it now, I need to help Newt.
I stayed at a walk as I went down a few passageways. I turned and was ready to give up and try to get back to the glade. But I saw a Griever blocking my path.
I froze in my step. I'd only seen a griever once before when one of the boys discovered a window in the walls. At night we took turns checking out the griever. I didn't think they came out during the day. But I guess I was wrong.
The Griever curled into a ball and rolled towards me. I backed up and my back hit a wall. I looked left and right, trying to decide which way to go. I pushed off the wall to go left, but the Griever was quicker.
I was face to face with it, so I started running to the right instead. It reached out and scraped my back. The forced knocked me to my knees. I flipped around and starting crawling backwards to get away from it. I scrambled to get my feet under me. Just as I turned to run again, I felt something stab into my arm. I ignored the pain and kept running. I ran down several turns before I looked back. The Griever was gone.
I heard someone yell from just around the corner. My mind went to Newt as I stumbled toward the sound. But I only got a few steps before the pain in my arm increased and The world started spinning around me.
I stumbled around, trying to keep my balance. There was pain echoing in my head. I heard someone scream, but I couldn't tell if it came from my mouth, or if it was someone else.
I collapsed as the world turned to black.
