Chapter 4: His Feelings

I'm legit two seconds away from slamming my head on the table. I was originally happy to see Arin's face, but now, I wanna slap it every time I so much as look at it.

I grit my teeth and glare at Arin. He pats my back. "I love you, lil' sis."

"Uh-huh," I mumble, feeling very salty. "I bet you do."

"Ooh, not even an 'I love you too'? Wow. (Y/N) must be angry," Dan observes, sitting down on an armchair and opening the cheese puff bag. "How come?"

"Arin's just being a little shit, as always," I mumble.

Arin places a hand on his chest and acts offended.

"Cry me a damn river, Arin," I add. "You can't hide from the fact that you're an asshole."

Dan crunches on his cheese puffs as he watches Arin and I eye each other with pure hatred. Okay, maybe not hatred, but disliking. "Fight, fight, fight!" Dan chants.

I smirk, crossing my arms. "I would, but I don't think Arin would be up to it, considering we all know who the winner would be."

"Oooh," Dan says quietly.

Arin stands up and rubs his hands together, grinning evilly at me. "Yeah. The winner would be me. And I'm up for a fight, (Y/N). The question is...are you?"

Dan looks at me expectantly, shoveling cheese puffs into his mouth.

I stay put, not uttering another word on the matter. For being a chubby boyo, Arin is very strong. He'd kick my ass if we were to fight. I was only being cocky because I like making fun of him. I didn't actually wanna fight.

After a few more seconds of silence on my end, Arin smirks, crossing his arms. He chuckles. "What's the matter? Ya scared?"

I shake my head. "Nope. I just don't wanna waste my time and energy on you. And I also don't wanna have to call Mom and Dad and tell them their son died."

Dan snorts from the armchair that he's sitting on.

Arin whips around and glares at Dan. "One more noise out of you and I'll fucking kick you into the stratosphere. Got it?"

Dan seems alarmed at how serious and threatening Arin sounded. He nods nervously, sinking further back into the armchair.

Arin nods with satisfaction and turns back to me. "I don't think I'd be the one getting buried. It'd be you, my dear sister. I'm way stronger than you."

   He's 100% right. "You wish," I mumble.

Arin crosses his arms and raises an eyebrow. "Who was the one that threw heavy as hell axes at a target and got more points than Dan?"

Since I've never thrown axes with Dan (or at all), I sigh and say, "You."

"Um...if I may..," Dan cuts in. "The lady there said that to be good at throwing axes, you needed good techniques...Not strength..."

Arin slowly turns to look at Dan. He looks at the curly-haired god with a look that could kill. "Let me make (Y/N) fear me, okay?"

"Why are you trying to make poor (Y/N) fear you, though?" Dan questions. "She's the nicest person alive! The only reason she's being sassy is because you deserve it. You embarrassed the hell out of her, man."

I look at Arin, smirking. "Yeah, Arin! Stop bullying me! I'm the nicest person alive!"

Arin looks at me and rolls his eyes. "Sure you are. Remember when you threw a chair on my head when I was three?"

   Dan laughs from the armchair.

Arin ignores him and awaits my answer.

And I have one ready. "Arin, I was only one. And it's not like it was a big one, anyway. It was one of those toddler ones that could never hold anyone older than four," I say, laughing slightly.

Arin opens his mouth to retort, but closes it once he realized that he doesn't have a good comeback. He looks at Dan for a split second, and a smirk crosses his face.

Uh-oh. He's formulating an evil plan.

Arin looks back at me, the smirk on his face unchanging. "Stand up."

I raise an eyebrow. "Why?"

"Just stand up," Arin demands, not answering my question at all.

I hesitantly stand up, looking up at my older brother (he's 6'2, so I have to look up). (If you're somehow close to 6'2, then ignore that.) "What is it, Arin?" I say wearily.

"We're gonna fight!" Arin says, patting my shoulder.

I groan. Not only do I not feel like fighting, I know that Arin will win.

I'm still not sure if I believe him, though. Arin has always been a big softie, so I doubt he'll wanna beat the living hell out of his little sister that he loves.

"Wait, are you serious?" Dan asks, knitting his eyebrows together curiously. "You guys are actually gonna fight?"

"Indeed," Arin says with an evil smirk. "Now...I'll make the first move."

And just like that, Arin shoves me really hard.

I begin to fall. My heart jolts as I realize where I'm gonna land.

I'm gonna land right on Dan.

Now I feel like I'm falling in slow-motion. I'm trying to change my direction so that I don't land on Dan, but it's no use.

Finally, I land right on top of Dan.

   Arin snickers quietly to himself.

I whip around and glare at my brother, for some reason forgetting that I'm on top of Dan and need to get off.

Arin bursts into full-fledged laughter because of the look I give him.

That's when I actually remember that I'm making someone feel awkward by just chilling on him. I look at Dan and blush from embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry..."

I think I see Dan go red as well. He says, "Oh, don't worry about it. It's not your fault that your brother is an abomination of a human being."

I smile gratefully and awkwardly clamber off of poor Dan.

Arin's still laughing his head off. I feel that I need to get revenge.

I grab a handful of Arin's hair and pull it, (Please don't take this the wrong way, everybody. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Jennifer) knowing that Arin hates it when people do that. I used to do it when we were little just to get under his skin. And since his hair is longer now, it'll be a lot easier for me and a lot more painful for him.

Arin yelps. "Ow! (Y/N), stop!" he whines.

"Not until you promise to stop being a bitch and pushing your little sister!" I say with an evil smile.

"Never!" Arin says, desperately trying to free his hair from my grasp. But it's no use; my grip is tight.

"Okay then. I guess I'm not letting go of your hair, then," I say, my evil smile getting bigger.

After a few more seconds of suffering, Arin finally says, "Okay, okay! I promise to stop being a bitch and pushing my little sister!"

I smile with satisfaction and let go of Arin's hair. My brother lets out a sigh of relief, happy to be free from my grasp.

"I'll be right back, guys. I gotta go to the bathroom," I say.

Both Dan and Arin nod. "Have fun!" Dan says.

I smile at him and slip into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.

As soon as the door closes, though, I hear Dan's voice say to Arin, "Hey...uh...can I tell you something?"

I wait to use the bathroom. Instead, I get even closer to the door and listen to Dan and Arin's conversation. I'm grateful that the bathroom is hella close to the living room so that I can eavesdrop.

"Sure, man," Arin says. "Shoot."

"Okay..," Dan says hesitantly. "But you have to promise not to tell anyone. Especially (Y/N)."

"What? Why can't I tell (Y/N)?" Arin asks curiously.

There's a little bit of silence on Dan's end. "...Well...it's kinda about her."

I feel my heart jump.

It's Arin's turn to be silent. Only his silence is showing that he's pondering what Dan could possibly have to say about me. Then he says, "Okay...I won't tell her. So tell me what's on your mind."

Dan is silent for a few more seconds. He clears his throat awkwardly. "Well...I think...that I..." He trails off, leaving both Arin and I in suspense.

   "Well?" Arin prods.

"I think I like her..," Dan says, sighing once he's done uttering those five words.

My heart jumps once more. I smile to myself, happy that me and Dan take a liking to one another.

   Arin's silent.

   "Arin..?" Dan asks.

"OH MY GOD!" Arin yells. "I SHIP YOU GUYS SO MUCH!"

"Shhh!" Dan shushes Arin. "She'll hear!"

"I ship you guys so much!" Arin repeats, only quieter. "You guys would make the perfect couple!"

I'm silently thanking Arin for not telling Dan my feelings. I kinda want Dan to hear it from me instead of Arin.

"You really think so?" Dan asks.

"Yeah!" Arin says enthusiastically. He then lowers his tone and growls, "But hurt her in any way and I'll kill you. Got it?"

Aw, Arin does care about me.

"Arin, I wouldn't dream of hurting her," Dan says.

   "Good," Arin says.

I smile to myself one more. I'm practically shaking with ecstasy.

"So what do you like about (Y/N)?" Arin asks.

"Arin, can we not do this?" Dan whines. "She might he—"

"What do you like about her, Dan?" Arin asks again.

Dan sighs, knowing that he has to answer. "Well, she's pretty, she's kind, she's funny...I know I haven't even known her for a day yet, but it feels like I've known her for years."

   "Aww!" Arin giggles.

   "Shush," Dan says.

The conversation gradually switches to another topic.

I place a hand over my chest. Wow. My heart is beating hella fast right now.

I then use the bathroom, happy that Dan likes me.

   Actually, happy is an understatement.

   I'm ecstatic.

   Ecstatic.
