Chapter 13: The Office

   Sleep.

What a wonderful thing sleep is. You get to lose yourself in unconsciousness and replenish your sanity. And, on occasion, sleep can provide you with a really good dream that you'll remember always.

I'm in the middle of the wonderful action of sleeping when the feeling of a human throwing themselves on my bed rips me out of my slumber.

I sit bolt upright in what'll be my bed for the remainder of my visit with Arin, panting in fear.

Speaking of Arin, he's the one that's on my bed. He grabs my shoulders, smiles, and says in his obnoxiously loud voice, "Ah, good! You're awake! Come on! Get up! We've got places to go!" He says all this while shaking me.

Did this bro really have to rip me out of such a good sleep?

"What..? Where do we have to go..?" I ask groggily, my annoyance at Arin showing in my tired voice as I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.

"To the office, silly! The Game Grumps office!" Arin giggles, hopping off my bed and bouncing excitedly.

What? Since when did I have to go there? Yeah, it'd be cool to meet all of Arin's colleagues, but right now? When I was enjoying a nice sleep?

"I get why you'd have to go there now," I begin, running a hand through my knotted hair, "since you're the one that works there. But why do I have to go as well? It's early, man. Why can't you just leave me here?"

Arin's expression falls. "I...guess I can... I just thought that you'd like to meet my colleagues and just...fart around with Dan and I."

My own expression softens. Arin always was able to wrap me around his finger by sounding all sad like that. I really can't say no to that face. "Okay, okay. I'll go with you," I say with a smile.

And just like that, his expression brightens up again. "Yes! Oh, thank you, (Y/N)!" He then opens my suitcase like it's his and yeets some clothes at me to change into. "Hurry up and change so we can get going!"

I giggle at the enthusiasm of my big bro as I catch the clothes that he throws at me. "All right. Skedaddle outta here then."

Arin nods happily and dashes out of my room and shuts the door behind him.

I sigh, shaking my head to myself as I smile. I then peel off the pajamas that I was wearing and replace it with the clothes that Arin pulled out. I look at myself in the mirror, shrugging at my appearance. Not bad. Arin has okay taste in outfit-picking.

I then chuck the pajamas back into my suitcase, not bothering to close it as I open the door and walk into the kitchen. There, I see that Arin is frosting cinnamon rolls while Suzy sits at the kitchen table; staring lovingly at her bubbly husband.

"Ooh, cinnamon rolls," I say, sitting down at the kitchen table next to my sister-in-law.

Arin looks back at me, smiling. "Yep. Remember how you'd go insane every time we had them as kids? You convinced Mom and Dad to make 'em at least once a week, and Nate and I got so sick of 'em."

(I just realized that this is the first time I've ever mentioned Nate, Arin's actual sibling. Forgive me, Nate. You exist now. owo)

I laugh a little, recalling the glory days of my childhood. "Yeah, I remember that. Well, look who's making them now. Looks like my ways have rubbed off on you, huh?"

Arin laughs a bit too, going back to frosting the last remaining cinnamon roll. "I guess so. Can't say I mind, though." After doing so, Arin carries the plate of cinnamon rolls to the table and sets them on it. He then takes a seat across from Suzy and I.

"Oh, thank God," Suzy says. "I was starving." She then grabs a cinnamon roll and consumes it in about five seconds.

Arin looks at Suzy with wide eyes. "I guess you were."

I laugh as I grab a cinnamon roll. Now this is a breakfast. I was missing out when I was living alone.

***

"Come on, come on!" Arin whines impatiently as he drags me to the Game Grumps office's front door, Suzy trailing behind us. It's a very nice front door. It's made of very well-polished wood. "You're so slow sometimes!"

I roll my eyes and humor Arin, picking up my pace a little. "Am not."

"Sure," Arin scoffs sarcastically. We reach the door, and Arin fishes in his pants' pocket for what I'm assuming is a key. He finally finds it, and his face lights up as he pulls it out. Then, in a flash, he turns the key in the door and opens it. He squeals excitedly and pulls me inside the office as Suzy laughs and follows us in.

Arin shuts the door behind the three of us and takes the key out of his door, stuffing it back in his pocket. He then looks around the office and smiles.

I do the same, and I let out an "oh" of interest as I see that the environment is a lot more chill than I expected it to be. I thought there would be cubicles and people silently working. A no-horseplay type of business. Well, then again, with the type of person Arin is, that wouldn't really make sense. Anyway, there's beanbag chairs on the floor, and two unfamiliar people are chilling on it. Another two people are having a pillow fight with the pillows from a nearby couch. I recognize Dan as one of the pillow fighters, but I don't know who the other person is. There's also a small line of desks with computers on them, and a few people are sitting at the desks. But they're not working. They're laughing at the scene before them.

"Everyone!" Arin says, making everybody stop what they're doing. They all turn towards Arin, Suzy, and I, looking quizzically at me. Except for Dan, of course. He looks happy to see me.

"I have brought my sister, (Y/N), here today!" Arin continues, gesturing to me with a goofy smile on his face.

"Oh, you're (Y/N)!" the other pillow fighter says, returning his pillow to its original place. He then looks at me and smiles, stating, "Arin has told us all a lot about you."

One of the people at the desk nod, smiling. "He has. Well, I think I've heard more about you from Danny over here." He gestures to Dan, who laughs awkwardly.

"Good things, I hope?" I giggle, looking between Dan and Arin.

"Very good things," the dude at the desk says, nodding while looking at Dan knowingly.

"Okay! I'm gonna do introductions now!" Arin says, smiling. He points to the pillow fighter that I don't recognize. "This is Ross," he then points to one of the beanbag chair people, "this is Chris," then the other, "and this is Ben." He then moves to the desk people. He points to the one that informed me about Dan talking about me, saying, "This is Brian," then a girl desk person, "this is Allie," then the final desk person, "and this lil' buddy's Jory. The purest soul you'll ever meet."

Everybody that Arin introduced to me all wave. I wave back.

"And (Y/N)? I believe Danny had something to tell you," Brian says, looking at Dan and winking.

Dan grits his teeth in frustration as I look up at him curiously. "Is that true, Dan?" I ask.

Dan giggles awkwardly, shooting Brian a casual death glare. "Uh...yeah..," he says. "Um...can we go somewhere that's more private..?"

Everybody begins to smirk, seeing what's up. And then it hits me. This could be what Arin was keeping from me.

Curiosity biting at me, I nod.

Dan then begins to lead me somewhere, people yelling "oooo~" as he does so.

We get to the room that he wanted our conversation to take place in, and it's very nice. It looks like a room in which Dan and Arin film. There's one solitary couch that's in front of a bunch of cameras, and the couch has a purple backdrop behind it. There's also artificial plants surrounding the couch.

Without saying anything, Dan sits on the couch, patting the spot next to him.

I sit next to him and ask, "So, what did you want to tell me?"

Dan exhales a little, laughing awkwardly to himself as he looks anywhere but at my eyes. "Um...I really wish that Brian didn't mention this so soon..," he says. I'm pretty sure it was more to himself than to me, so I'm quiet. He then finally gathers enough courage to look me in the eye. "Oh, God... This is gonna sound so weird and forward... Okay, just forget it..." He then tries to stand up and leave.

But I sit him back down. "Hey, don't be so nervous. There's so judgement here." I then smile, trying to comfort this boi in any way I can.

His tense expression relaxes a little at my smile, which makes me feel good. "Okay... Let me explain some things before I ask what I wanna ask."

   I nod. "Explain away."

"All right, here goes nothing..," Dan begins, exhaling. "Okay, so...I know that we've only had one date, and we haven't even known each other for that long. But, I can't wait any longer. I've never been more sure of what I want in my entire life. You make me feel like nobody else has made me feel before. I want you."

He exhales once more, trying to gather his courage once more. "We can take it slow. We can take it at whatever place you want. So..."

Another exhale as he averts his eyes. Then, his beautiful brown orbs lock onto mine once more.

   "Will you be my girlfriend?"
