The Tomorrow App - The Bonus Button

Josh had been trying to call Johnny all week. Finally, on Saturday morning, his friend answered. Johnny's voice was so low and dispirited, Josh wasn't even sure he had the right number.

" 'Lo".

"Dude, where ya been? I've been trying to call ya. I gotta work at Mary's this morning. Why don't ya stop by? I'll make you my world famous crappy frappy." Josh wouldn't let up until he got a yes from his friend.

Mary's is a coffee shop at the edge of the old, historic downtown. It is owned by Josh's sister. Josh helps out with the Saturday morning crowds. Johnny got there about 10:30 and took their usual table in the back corner of the patio. "Dude, what's goin on? You gotta face like a basset hound and you haven't even touched your frappe. I put double chocolate in it." Josh was taking a break and was trying to cheer up his friend.

Johnny took a breath and started. "I'm in trouble. I got this app and I can't get rid of it. It promised I could make money but all it's done is to hurt people." Johnny told Josh about the lost wallet, the money left on the table, and the armored truck crash.

"That was you that filmed that armored truck? I saw it on the news. They got almost all the money back, thanks to you. That don't sound like a bad thing."

"You don't understand, it was because of me that the truck crashed. If I hadn't opened this app, the old lady would not have lost her wallet and the truck would not have crashed. People would not have gotten hurt."

"Can I look at it?" Josh picked up Johnny's phone from the table and scanned the app. "You got two unopened messages here from them."

"I know. I have been afraid to open them. Someone else might get hurt."

"Well, these two have expired, so they can't hurt anybody now. Have you tried this 'Bonus' button? There is one new message there."

Johnny leaned over and looked at the phone. "That wasn't there before. What does it say?"

"Some girl named Danielle wants to talk to you and she is..." Josh looked around, "right there."

An attractive young woman was seated near the front of the patio. She had a small white dog with her. When Josh turned around to look, she waved to him.

"Holy s#*t," Josh muttered under his breath. The boys got up and walked over to the table.

"Hi, you must be John. You can call me Danni." The slender young woman stood and held her hand out to Josh.

Josh shook her hand and knew in an instant that he never wanted to let go of it. He stammered, "Uh, no. I am Josh. He is Johnny." They both looked down to Johnny who was on his knees, scratching the ears of the little white dog, who was responding by shaking her short stubby tail so hard her whole back end was in motion.

"Oh, crap," Danni sat down and looked at both boys. "We need to talk."
