Chapter 21
Natsu’s Point of View
I woke up and I still had last night’s encounter in my mind. I quickly got dressed and left to the guild with a still sleepy Happy. I walked in and went to Mira at the counter.
“Hello, Natsu. Your usual?”
“Yea, do you know where Lucy is?” I asked as I sat down.
“She left.”
“What do you mean she left?” Frostbite said coming up to the bar. Mira laugh before saying,
“She went on a job for the council. She’ll be gone for about a week. What do you need Lucy for?”
“Cause Gin came to see us last night.” Happy said.
“What?” they all said in shock causing everyone to quiet down.
“What did she want?” Mira asked.
“She said past this message to Lucy.”
“What was the message?”
“ ‘We always get what we want. It's only a matter of time before our plan sets in motivation.’ then she told me to tell her this when she's alone, ‘next time that I have her, I'll let the boys play.’ then left.”
“Hmm that does seem an odd thing to say but why you?”
“Maybe since he’s closer to lucy.” Wendy piped in.
“But that was before she left, now she isn’t that close with anyone,” Levy said.
“Who knows, the only thing we can do is tell Lucy when she gets back,” Erza said. I looked at Levy and seemed lost in thought.
“Whatchu thinking shrimp?”
“The message for lucy, ‘next time that I have her, I'll let the boys play.’, what does it mean?”
“Who knows, might mean something to Lucy since she does have a lot of secrets.” Mira placed my food in front of me as I dogged it down. I already knew this was gonna be a boring week.
“Brats,” Gramps shouted, gaining all of our attention.
“I want to get more information on these people so we can get rid of them fast. So any of that went on a job recently I want for you to try and remember anything that seems out of place. I want you to write it down and give it to Mira. Make sure you put what town, village or forest, and all that shit.” Gramps had asked for Levy to help look up information on Dark Night. They were at the bar looking at old records hoping to see anything. Everyone was talking with one another trying to remember anything.
“There isn't really anything on them besides something way back,” Levy said.
“Right now anything can help.” Gramps
“It says here when the first guilds were made Dark Night was one of them but they didn't want to follow the rules that were made. Council at the time kept trying to convince them to obey the rules and sign the contract but every time they refused. In doing so the council calls them a dark guild, the very first dark guild. Other official guilds tried to take them down but never could. They never actually killed anyone. They were actually peaceful. Certain things they did the council did not agree with but couldn't do anything about it. As years went by more dark guild became known and Dark Night slowly disappeared. It is unknown what happened with the guild. Some say that in the end it disbanded or was forgotten but I know that was not the truth. I have a feeling that they will come, I just don't know if it'll be a good thing or bad.” Levy finished reading.
“So it's very old. It did come back but it wasn't good.”
“Maybe that's why they are attacking and everything,” Juvia said.
“What do you mean?” Gramps asked.
“They're mad that they have been forgotten and they want revenge.”
“Yea but why be attacking us or villages/towns or even Lucy? They would attack the dark guilds if they wanted revenge.”
“I think they already did. When Lucy went missing I asked 4th council member about any dark guilds that might have gotten an interest in us and they said no. But some dark guilds went missing or their activity went down a lot.”
“So they must have attacked them and killed their members or forced them to join their guild. Master, do you know how many dark guilds went missing or activity went low?” Levy said.
“She won't give me an exact amount but she said around 50+ in total. I tried asking for more information but she said confidentially. I can try again but I don't know if they'll tell me anything.”
“I found something else. It was written in another language and I translated the best I could. From what I can tell from a letter or diary entry, it says: ‘They have been nothing but trouble for us.’ Um hold on, ‘They have pushed back our plans, not letting us go forward. We had enough, we will kill them all.’ Geez, this is hard to read. ‘We don't care if they don't like us using their members but it's for the greater good. If we have to, we will use them till there is no magic left in them and let them die. They can't see that we are doing this for our future. They are being selfish, only caring bout their goddess.’ That's all could get, everything else is faded.”
“They have pushed back our plans, not letting us go forward.’ What plans did they have and who's not letting them go forward?” Erza said.
“Also what are they doing to make them want them dead?” Cana asked before drinking more.
“The only thing I can make out is a star. It appears multiple times but everything is blurry and faded.”
“It could be a guild mark,” Mira said.
“Yea but in the past, I searched up all the guilds even ones that were no longer and none of them had a star.”
"When I give the 4th council member a call I'll ask her about this all,” Gramps asked. We were hoping for this to answer at least some of our questions but it only gave us more. I rubbed my forehead trying to take everything in. Mira had what looked like 20 pieces of paper. Levy was still going through the record for any more information.
“Natsu what did you do with Lucy’s stuff after she left two years ago?”
“I put it all into boxes and brought it back to my place, why?”
“Well didn't she say that it was a couple of months before she left that she encountered them. We can look through her stuff to see if anything is there.”
“She already went through it.”
“Maybe she missed something.”
“I don't think its a good idea to go through her things.”
“Natsu, don't you want to find as much information on these guys so we can beat them faster?”
“Yea.”
“So Lucy might have looked things on them before she left or written things down,” Gray said.
“Fine,” I said. I have a bad feeling if Lucy finds out. I stood up and we walked over to my house. We went in and went to the only room on the first floor. It had some of her furniture and boxes. Erza, Gray, Wendy, Carla and Happy all grabbed a box and started looking through them.
“Aren't you gonna help flame brain?”
“What did you call me, Ice Queen?” I said back at him. Our heads bump together but no other words were said cause Erza said in a threatening tone,
“You boys better stop fighting.” We immediately stop and go back to what we were doing before.
I don't know how long we were in that room but a smell filled my nose making me stop. I stood up and looked at the door.
“Are you ok, Natsu?” Wendy asked.
“Don't you smell that Wendy?” I asked.
“No, what do you smell?” I didn't answer her and opened the door. I walked into my living room/kitchen and saw no one but I could still smell them. Everyone else was behind me getting in a defense position.
“Come out Gin,” I shouted.
“Aw, Natsu~. You're no fun.'' I hear her say. She then appears on my island, sitting. She had a pout on her face.
“You no longer need to reply to that message Lucy. I did that myself. It's sad that she's on a job because she can't protect you. She can't hear your cries of pain but I would love to hear it though.” She said and smiled at the end.
“What do you want, Gin?” Erza asked, pointing her sword at Gin.
“Already want me gone, how mean. I don't want anything, yet.” That yet made me feel uneasy. “I just want to say something to you guys. The clock is ticking, it's only a matter of time till it all falls.” Gin jumped down from the island and waved.
“Oh before I go, Gray Fullbuster I suggest you watch your wife and child before something bad happens to them.” She said with an evil grin. Gray was ready to attack her but Erza put a hand on his shoulder stopping him.
“Sorry, but you can't engage with me or I won't hesitate to kill you and how would the guild react. Even if you did manage to survive, you will have to deal with the council.”
“How do you-.” I started to say before being interrupted.
“We have eyes everywhere. No secrets are unknown to us. I suggest you be careful what you say from now on. Anyways I gotta go. Bye bye~” she said before disappearing into thin air. Gray rushed out of the house and back to the guild with us behind him. He saw Juvia sitting with Storm in her lap. Relief filled his face. He walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. Juvia was surprised.
“What happened?” Mira asks you could clearly see the concern on her face.
“Gin appeared out of nowhere, told us that she gave Lucy the message already, that we should be careful about what we say and that Gray should keep an eye on Juvia and Storm before something happens. That's why we came running back.
“Oh my, well Juvia has been here the whole time.”
“I'm just going to say this, if they dare lay a hand on that baby there will be hell to pay,” Gramps said. I could clearly see him gripping the cup. I looked out the window and saw Gin sitting in one of the trees that went out to the forest. She had an evil grin on her face and waved at me before disappearing. This was no longer a game, this was going to be a war.
