Chapter 15
Lucy’s Point of View
I stared at the moon and stars throughout the night. I was debating whether or not to tell them everything. They deserve to know but it could get them killed. It got me killed a couple of times but I'm still here. They won't be able to come back if they die. Well depending but there is a risk with it. ‘Celest, why aren't you here when I need you the most.’ Celest was like a second mother to me and they killed her like she was nothing. I felt tears were about to fall. They didn't have to kill her, she had nothing to do with what they wanted but they always wanted to hurt everyone around me. That's why I left but the guild doesn't get it. I want to tell what happened but then I have to open myself up again and I don't want to do that. I did that before and I got a lot of people killed. I finally let the tears fall. I pulled my knees to my chest and let it out. I lean my head back against the tree and stare at the sky. They will pay, that is for sure. They hurt way too many people, people's lives affected by this guild all because they want what I have. It was bout mid-morning from what I could tell. I rested my head on my knees and fell asleep. I woke up again to talk. I opened my eyes and saw Erza, Wendy, Carla, Gray, Happy, and Natsu.
"We should leave her. She looks dead practically." Erza said.
"Yea but out in the woods. What if that dark guild comes? It is an easy way of capturing her." Wendy said and Carla agreed.
"Well, we're too far from the guild so we can just wait for her to wake up or bring her along," Gray said.
"When someone is sleeping, you should whisper so you don't wake them up," I said. They looked at me. I stood up and stretched.
"Sorry for waking you up, Lucy," Erza said.
"Eh, I honestly don't care. But Wendy was right tho."
"What are you doing so far out into the forest?"
"Don't know, just wanting to be by myself. Anyway, what are you guys doing?"
"Heading out to do a job." Happy said and landed in my arms.
"Would you like to come along, Lucy?" Erza asked.
"Sure, just don't expect me to do much since I need to stay low."
"That's fine. Well, let's head to the town before it gets dark."
We walked for a while. Something felt off. I stopped but everyone else kept walking. Once they noticed that I stopped they stopped.
"What's wrong?" I didn't say anything and focused on the sounds around me. The birds chirping, the squirrels climbing trees, deer eating grass, and a heavy foot stepping on a twig. They saw me get in a somewhat defensive position and got into one-two. I heard something else off to the left. A group of guys then come out from their hiding place. They easily outnumber us. They were somewhat buffle.
"We had a feeling you would stay with your guild once you reunite with them, Lucy Heartfillia." I relaxed my body and looked at them with a bored face.
"You know Dark Night is paying a lot of money for you being given to them alive or your keys."
"If this is your whole guild, well bubby you're in for a surprise," I said.
"They told us everything we need to know, girl."
"Of which is nothing. You don't know shit if you actually came after me. So I suggest that you leave before shit happens."
"Oh, we know enough. We know that a lot of people died because of you and how you did nothing to save them." Anger filled my body. I could tell the eyes of my friends on me.
"I'm gonna ask you one last time to leave."
"Just by looking at you, you can tell that she didn't do shit. She just let them die." He laughed at the end. I quickly summoned my bow and shot arrows right next to all the member's heads without them noticing. They immediately stopped laughing and looked at me.
"Leave, before you regret provoking me even more," I said with so much anger in my voice. I was behind pissed. I could tell that there were shocked looks on my friends.
"Why should we? We could easily take you and your friends down." I put my bow away and summon a dagger. I threw the dagger and the handle of it hit the guy in the forehead.
"I hit you with the handle of the dagger but you know what it could've been more fun hitting you with the blade." I let my eyes change their original color. "What the dark guild didn't tell me was how crazy I can get or what will happen if I let that side of me out. The reason is that they don't want you to turn your backs on them. If you know everything then you won't be giving me to them, you would keep me for yourself. Now how much does that tell you." I could tell the vines on my arm go up and onto my face. Along with the colors in my hair slowly showing themselves.
Let me tell you right now, they were scared shitless. You could tell that they weren't expecting that.
"This is your last chance so get your fat asses out of here." They ran so fast that you would think that they were never there. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm myself. Once everything was back to normal, I opened my eyes and looked at my friends. They all had shock faces.
"Don't ask." Was all I said before walking again in the same direction as before. I could tell that their heads were filled with questions but I wasn't prepared to answer them all.
It was bout midday when we finally reached a village. Before we entered the village I pulled up my hood.
"Why didn't you guys tell which village we were going to?"
"This isn't the town where the job is but we have to go through this village to get to the town. Why is something the matter, Lucy?"
"No, I just can't stay here long." We continued walking till we reached a little station that had wagons. Erza was talking to the lady before coming back to us.
"We're gonna have to stay the night. The wagons only go in the morning to the town since it's a half-day ride and they don't want the wagons out late."
"Let's get lunch then find a motel or something."
"How bout me and Wendy find a hotel well you guys find a cafe?" Erza said.
"No point in finding a hotel."
"Why?"
"I have a cabin here that we can stay the night in."
"Oh, well you seem to know the area so do you know if there is anywhere to get food?"
"I haven't been here in a while but there was a good cafe so we can go see if it's still there."
"Ok, lead the way." I start walking with them following me. Why did I have to say that I've been here before? We had to walk through some busy streets and people were just looking at me. We finally made it to the cafe. We entered and saw no one at the counter. Then a lady came out of the back a few minutes later.
"Oh hello. What would you like?"
"Hello, um, can I try the strawberry cake?"
"Sure and what would you like to drink with it?"
"Water." Everyone else ordered but me. She told us to sit while she brought our food out.
"I would have thought that this place was busy."
"It usually is around the rush hours but you guys came into the empty hours." She said from the back. She came out with all our orders including something for me.
"She didn't order anything tho," Erza said as she placed a drink in front of me.
"It's all on the house, dear. It's nice to see an old face around here sometimes." She said and walked away. She came back and pulled a chair up to us. She sat down and looked at me.
"You know you don't have to wear your hood here, Lucy."
"You already know why."
"Yes, now that you remind me." Her face became serious.
"I suggest that you leave as soon as you can."
"Why?" Gray asked.
"Dark Night has been showing themselves more than usual. They have been asking recently if you came around. We all have been saying no but we have a feeling that they are planning something for our village. There aren't really any people around anymore because the mayor has asked us if we have any family outside of this village to go and live with them. Most left already and more are leaving at the end of the week. But not everyone's leaving, they keep saying that this village is their home."
"But if they are planning something then they are gonna get killed."
"They don't care. I shouldn't be telling you this but you should know. I advise you to stay in your cabin till you leave. Some are hoping that if you come back that if they tell Dark Night that you're here they might show mercy on the village."
"But they know that no matter what, no mercy will be shown."
"They don't care, I have to get back to my job." She said before hurrying up and getting back to the counter. A guy came and she gave him what he wanted. We quickly finish before heading out. They followed me as I headed to the cabin. I unlocked the door and left it open for them. It was a little dusty but it wasn't too bad.
"There's two bedrooms in total and a couch for someone to sleep on."
"I'll crash on the couch," Gray said before jumping on it.
"I guess me and Wendy will take the guest."
"Alright," I said before walking into the kitchen part. When you walked in off to the right is the kitchen with a counter where you ate. Then it was the living room. There was a small hallway that led to the bedrooms and bathroom. I went off to the bedroom and let do whatever they were gonna do. Throughout the time I could hear them talk.
A knock stopped my train of thought.
"We bought food," I answered back with an ok and put away whatever I was doing. I walked to the living room and sat down at the coffee table. We ate and talked there. We acted as if we had no worries, no problems. I honestly had missed this.
"Alright let's head to bed so we can wake up early in the morning," Erza said. She, Wendy, and Carla head off to the guest bedroom.
"I'm gonna take a shower then go to bed. So good night." Gray said and went into the bathroom. Natsu was throwing away the trash when I left. Once I got into the room I went to the closet and took off my shirt and grabbed another. I heard the door open and close. I saw pink out of the corner of my eye. I heard him sit on the bed and sigh.
"I can sleep on the floor if you don't want me to sleep with you on the bed."
"No, you can sleep on the bed. I don't know if I'll get any sleep tonight."
"Lucy, what are we now?"
"What do you mean?"
"Us, our relationships. You were gone for two years. Are we even together still?" He said with pain in his voice.
"I don't know." I felt tears threatening to fall.
"When you left, I looked through all your stuff in hopes to find out why. I didn't find anything so I thought that it was my fault. Every mission I and Happy went on we asked if anyone saw you and they said that the last thing they heard was you were at the villages that were destroyed. We thought you were dead till we were told that you were at another one. Then from what we heard from the guild that we encounter and the fear we see in that lady's eye I kind of see why you left."
"I left because I didn't want you guys to get killed or even Magnolia to get destroyed. In the time that I first met them and till I left they showed that they weren't playing around. They tracked my every move and told me things that I didn't tell anyone. They knew my routine in a matter of days. If they did that easily to one person and imagine what they can do to anyone. They gain information and use it against that person. That's what they did several times. The deaths of those people always get me angry because I had a choice to save them and I didn't. It was either fight and have a higher chance of getting caught or leave while having a lower chance of getting caught and let them be killed or captured. Their deaths have always been something I regret doing but at the time I need to leave." I said with tears falling. I felt warmth behind me before he hugged me. I put my face into his neck and cried.
"I couldn't even help the person that was a second mother to me. She died protecting me." I felt him walk backward with me following. He sat down on the bed with me in between his legs. He put his hand on my head and rubbed it softly.
"You couldn't stop what happened. We lose people every day, some didn't need to have their lives lost and others their time may have been up. But remember what you told me, things happened for a reason so maybe all this happened for reason. You need to focus on the now and not the past. They may not be here alive but they are here with us in our memories. As long as we remember them then they live." He said. My tears slowly came to a stop.
"Thank you, Natsu." After sitting there in silence for a few minutes I pulled away and took a deep breath as he wiped away my tears.
"I'm willing to give us another chance, just can we take our time. I need to get used to being with people and everything."
"I'm fine with that, take as long as you need. I'm always gonna be there for you." He pulled my face to his and kissed me. It was slow, what I needed. I missed this. We pulled away with our eyes still close and put our foreheads against each other. A smile came onto my face. I don't know if he was smiling but I think he was. I pulled away and we opened our eyes. He studied my face before he brought his hand up to the right side of my face and traced the scar that went from the corner of my eye and down my face. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, pushing the memories back. I guess he saw that I was calming myself down so he pulled his hand away. His hands around my waist loosen.
"I suggest you get change before I do something." He said with amusement in his voice. I laughed and smacked his chest. I got out of his lap and went back to the closet. I put on my shirt and changed into leggings. I looked back at Natsu and saw that he had taken off his vest but kept his pants on. He was already under the covers. I got under them and turned off the light. I closed my eyes and moved away from Natsu. That didn't work cause he pulled me to him. I fell asleep to his warmth.
