We Have A Hive Mind.... Wait What?
The next four days were grueling and taxing to a whole new level for the Avengers, especially the new ones.
It all started out with the basics of fighting- punches, blocks, and how to move. Even those who knew how to fight were taught, keeping everyone on the same level. As explanation, Percy simply said "what's the point of learning to be a team if we don't know how we each fight and learn to adapt to each said fighting style?"
They practiced for a day before Percy had an idea. "Wanda, how about you try to link us together. That way we can link and share our moves?"
At this Wanda looked pensive. "I-I don't know... wha- what if it goes badly?"
Percy smiled. "It won't go wrong. I promise. Please trust me. Try it with me first. I have a lot of practice with mind games. Don't focus on seeing your worst fear, focus on helping." Wanda placed her hands flat against on either side of Percy's face, shaking slightly with fear. Percy placed her hands over Wanda's as a reassurance.
A minute ticked by, then two. After approaching the third minute, both women's eyes snapped open, Percy smiling at Wanda.
"Okay," Percy started, "everyone join hands please." Hands connected with each other, Bucky's metal left hand connecting with Percy's right joining the circle together.
They all seemed to wake up in a dark room. "Okay. Let me pull up memories of how each of us fight. Don't worry about how or when or who you learned with being revealed, there will be only the method showed."
Scene after scene blurred past them, analysis soon following showing how to adapt to each other, how to cover each other and fill in their weaknesses. Time was of no concept in this mind-scape, just memories. The torrent soon turned to pain and how to deal with it. How to care for wounds and treat others injuries. Most of that information came from either Banner, the spies, or Percy.
With treatment and care covered, the weapons information leapt from the floodgates of each memory. They learned how to safely change Tony's arch reactor, how to clean and use a gun, the basics of archery and fighting with a sword and/or knives. How to wrap your hands correctly for fighting flitted across thanks to Bruce, since he is a doctor.
Even though the team might not be able to lift Thor's hammer or draw Clint's bow, they knew how to use the hammer and arrows to their advantage.
Hands soon unclasped, the team collapsing down, staying in the circle. It was a lot to take in- even if most of the technique didn't go into detail, there was a lot of information to file away.
The next two days were applying that knowledge. They learned how to fight as a team and how to compensate if they were down people. They even learned how to be the most efficient if they were alone or separated.
Countless bruises littered limbs and torsos. Joints were stiff and cracked with sudden movement. Muscles protested and chests heaved with lungs going into overdrive. Hearts beat fast keeping its body alive. Despite all this, the team never felt better than they did, knowing that they could adequately protect their team- their family.
After lunch on the fourth allotted fighting day, Percy called them over to a table that she set up in the middle of the training room. Multiple weapons lay on the wood, just waiting to be given out.
"Okay. So these were specially made for each of you by my little brother with a bit of help of my friend Leo. Rhodey please step up. Since you are both in the army and part of the Avengers I had a special gun made for you. Next to the safety is a button that you press. Once pressed, the bullets turn into an unlimited supply of Imperial Gold bullets. Once pressed again, the bullets will turn back to normal. The clip for the regular bullets will refill itself just like the gold ones."
Percy then handed the gun over carefully, along with a thigh holster before calling Tony up. She held up a tiny rod, just a bit longer than her palm. She held her arm out to her side and pressed a button, and the tube extended out another two feet via rods that was slightly smaller than the last. Percy then held the button down and pushed the end back into the original tube. "Its made of Olympian Silver infused with adamatium so it can work against the mortal and the mythical. You are in the public eye the most and it would be best if you had something to protect yourself without calling the suit or arousing suspicion. Leo did research you and Rhodey's suits and confirmed that their blasters would be able to kill monsters. This rod has a holder that attaches to your forearm or calf, allowing it to be hidden yet easily accessible.
"Clint, though, already has a slot in his quiver that gives him Celestial Bronze tipped arrows that disappear once they aren't needed. The slot does automatically give him an arrow when he reaches back. Natasha has a gun just like Rhodey's. Thor, you hammer should do just fine and Hulk's brute force should be enough. Vision, your infinity stone should work too, but it would be wise to give you and Bruce a weapon just in case. Vision please step forward and then Bruce."
Vision approached, a tad skeptical. Percy held out a staff made of Imperial Gold. There where engraved details that looked like circuitry, the lines covered in vibranium to reinforce the staff and make it able to touch mortals. He picked it up, moving it around in the air a bit, testing its weight. Finally, Vision let out a happy hum and stepped back, allowing Bruce to come forward.
Percy handed over a knife hilt first. The base of the blade was thicker at the cross guard than at the tip, forming a triangular shape. The blade, when looked at via a 3D perspective, was forged into a diamond shape. The blade was made of Olympian Silver, along with the pommel of the knife. The cross guard and hilt were made of this white marble like substance, the white laced with gray and gold. A soft brown leather band was wound around the hilt in order to give an easy, comfy grip.
"Bruce, when you need, you can separate this knife into two." Percy placed her fingertips on the hilt and pulled, a duplicate knife appearing. She then placed the sides of the knives together and pushed, the two weapons joining together once again. The demigod then placed the weapon in a brown leather scabbard that matched the leather wrapped around the hilt.
"Captain Ameridork please step up." A snicker from Tony was heard. "Bring your shield." Once the frisbee was handed over, Percy secured a button to the hand grip and a strip of Celestial Bronze just along the inside rim of the shield. "When you press this button with your thumb, this ring of metal will extend to cover the rim of your shield. Press it again, it will retract."
"Pietro. Here's a pair of metal knuckles. There is a piece of Celestial Bronze sandwiched in between two pieces of Vibranium. Here is a pair of special running shoes, infused with Olympian Silver to prevent them from wearing down. The Hunters use these types of treads on their own shoes in order to gain reliable traction when they are running on any type of terrain. The shoes will also always adjust to your feet to help support them. You would have to thank Hermes that he got you a pair." The shoes were a simple blue with white treads.
"Wanda. Here are a dozen ball bearings- half are Vibranium and the other are Olympian Silver as to not alert foes of their difference in type. Your energy can carry them and use them as projectiles."
After Wanda had come up and taken her new weapon, the elevator dinged and Spiderman and Antman stepped out. "Just in time. Peter please step forward."
The teenaged spider stepped forward nervously. "So what are we doing?" Luckily his voice didn't crack in his nervousness.
"We are getting weapons that can attack both mythical and mortal beings. Peter, my cousin Leo went crazy editing something for you especially." Percy reached into a box, with drawing her hand held flat. Taking up the palm of her hand was a very realistic looking tarantula made of Celestial Bronze. "Her bite is killer to monsters and leave some terrible woulds on mortals. When you tap her abdomen..." the abdomen split in half horizontally and about a dozen babies lay in the bottom part. "These babies can dig themselves into a monster and detonate. They'll spawn back in here. These babies are only harmful to immortals though." The abdomen was tapped again, closing the body and hiding the babies from view. "You may name her."
"Arachne." Peter said in awe as the spider purred in agreement as it crawled up it his arm to rest upon his shoulder. Percy and the others, meanwhile, cracked a smile. Luckily everyone on the team knew her story, even the half timers, team bugbros.
Scott then walked forward. Percy instructed to hold out his cupped hands. The black haired beauty poured a small colony of ants made of Celestial Bronze, Imperial Gold, and Olympian silver. "The Bronze specialize in brute, abrupt attacks. They are the power houses. The Gold ones are for strategy. They keep the whole colony together. The Silvers are good for scouting due to their quicker speed."
Sam then stepped up at Percy's behest. She handed him twin guns that were made like Rhodey's. The man smiled, looking and admiring his new toys. When looking at the grips, he saw his insignias engraved. The insignia was an upside down red triangle, the bottom of the triangle, now the top, coming to three points. Sam had to say, his new guns were stunning. The twin holsters easily fit on his belt.
There was silence as Percy called no one else up. It took a moment before Steve started to look uncomfortable. "Um...I...you... Percy, aren't you forgetting something?"
The girl in question laughed. "Nah. I was just saving the best for last." Percy then lifted a heavy box up from the floor and put it heavily down on the table.
"He's gonna fight with a box." Tony observed. He then revised his statement after Percy took out something else. "So he's gonna fight with bubble wrap."
At this, Percy turned her head, and in the most deadpan attitude said "Yes."
Tony burst into giggles.
Rolling her eyes, Percy reached back into the box. She withdrew a gun and holster like the ones that Rhodey and Sam were given. But Percy reached into the box yet again. And she withdrew something that meant so much to James Buchanan Barnes. It was a new arm. Tears gathered in the eyes of the Winter Soldier as he smiled.
"I was talking with JARVIS about ideas for weapons. It turns out that he had a file on all the measurements on Bucky's arm. I thought that Bucky wouldn't mind if his arm got replaced since it probably reminds him of his time with HYDRA. So I printed out the measurements, and I started adding my own ideas to the arm. It is made out of adamantium infused with Olympic Silver. The inside wires are made of Celestial Bronze and Imperial Gold. The wires are coated in Stygian Iron, which makes the arm lighter, since the material is basically condensed shadows. The Iron had to be hidden since it couldn't really pass for anything, seeing as it is a very odd color. Stygian Iron looks as if it is absorbing light, never reflecting a single ray."
Percy took a breath, looking very excited at explaining what she did for the arm. "I also had a few modifications added. Since there is no HYDRA tech, there is absolutely no chance that it can be hacked. I also designed a device that will block out your body's need to go back to HYDRA when your trigger words are said. It emits light electrical charges that block the brains signals to obey. Now, I put a bit of work into this next part." Percy turned the arm to show the red star that was detailed onto the arm. "Behind here is a small container. It is indestructible, designed to withstand atomic bomb sized power surges without scratching. This clear glass container is designed this way because of what it holds. Greek fire. Just like the container it is almost impossible to put out- the fire can even burn underwater. A special solution has to be put on it to even hope to put the flames out."
Peter then spoke up. "If the fire is that dangerous, then why put it into Mr. Barnes' arm? Whats the point?"
Percy smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It is for a practical reason and a symbolic one. The practical benefits of having Greek Fire installed in the arm is to have it become a power source. It needs no fuel to burn and it creates a lot of energy. It eliminates the need for a different power source that could die out and need to be replaced. And with it's container, it doesn't have a chance to blow up or cause damage like other sources might. It also gives the arm power to run off, instead of require the arm to take energy from the body.
"Bucky already is a super-soldier, and with the arm relying on his body's energy, his metabolism is higher than Thor's. Which, is consequentially, really bad for his body. Think of it like this. Your phone needs your hands and fingers to give it commands to work. But even if you command it, the phone still needs to be plugged in and charged. Bucky still commands the arm, but it's just receiving the energy from an outside, safer, source.
"The symbolic reason is simple. Greek Fire is almost untamable- it is free and wild. You have to work with it and for it to get it the way that you want it. And the placement behind the star shows that no matter what, Bucky can't be held back, that nothing can destroy him. But those are just my thoughts. He can change the designs if he doesn't like it. I didn't mean to go all sentimental on you."
Percy blushed, looking at the ground as she scratched the back of her neck. Suddenly she let out a squeak as he was picked up around the waist and spun around. Once she was set down, a soft kiss was pressed to her forehead. Bucky smiled down at Percy and offered out his new arm for her to put in.
The demigod gently took off Bucky's old arm, the cold weight heavy in her hands. The new prosthetic was warmer and lighter as it clicked into place. No longer was there a dead weight that represented death and destruction. Now Bucky was free and safe all because of this woman in front of him.
--------------
Percy sighed. A news team was out trying to film the Avengers fighting. It was the first time she was fighting publicly alongside the Avengers. And this news station was going to get themselves killed trying to be the first to get an interview. So she had to fight near them, trying to get them to cover.
Percy had changed her complexion to what it was at the charity gala. Her tanned skin stayed the same while her hair lost it's blue-green iridescence while her eyes turned ectoplasm green, and the iris seemed to glow. Her face was covered though, with a simple black domino mask that had no strings.
For her outfit, it was simple. As a demigod, she had to learn to fight in all types of clothing, and that training carried over to SHIELD. She had a black, long sleeved shirt on, the collar and bottom of the sleeves being outlined in green. Three bands of the same green wrapped around each of her biceps, the bottom of her shirt being tucked into black high wasted jeans. There was a two bands of the green, one band in the middle of her right thigh and a band just above her left knee. Her feet were adorned with simple black sneakers, the tongues were the same neon ectoplasm green yet again. Finally, over her shirt, Percy wore a vest, the top of it starting in the green before gradually changing into a gray color.
Percy quickly ducked a blast and stabbed a HYDRA agent as he tried to stab the newscaster. Said newscaster yelped at the near death experience, but Percy didn't have time to think. Percy's ponytail whipped around as she was suddenly was grasped around the middle.
The tall, buff, agent behind her growled, low in his throat before chuckling. "Looks like I caught the kitte-" The man was cut of as he suddenly had a smoking wound in the side of his head.
"Thanks Tony."
"Wait- how did you know it was me?" The billionaire asked, voice metallic and slightly tinny through his mask.
"I thought we went over this. We have a hive mind." Percy paused, scanning the field as Tony nodded, as if having a hive mind made perfect sense. "Hold up. WHERE'S STEVE?" Percy called over the din of clashing metal and screams, "HOW DO WE LOOSE A 95 YEAR OLD GRANDPA GUYS? DO I REALLY NEED TO BACKPACK LEASH YOU?!"
Bucky was seen, quickly running. "AMERICA!" He screamed, running across the field, dodging bullets.
Soon enough Steve was seen running up the roof of a car, before jumping off it, using his shield to knock an agent unconscious. "FUCK YEAH!" Was the answered called from the star spangled man with a plan.
Percy grinned. "TRY NOT TO BUST A HIP STEVE. WE JUST GOT YOU NEW ORTHOPEDIC SHOES AND A CUSTOMIZED WALKER."
Steve smiled back. "BACK IN MY DAY, WE DIDN'T HAVE GUNS. WE FOUGHT WITH FISTS AND SHEER DETERMINATION."
Bucky snorted. "WELL, WE SAW HOW WELL THAT WORKED OUT ALLEY VIGILANTE."
Soon enough, all jokes aside, with the Avengers finally working in harmony, the agents were taken down.
And the news station couldn't believe that they got this all down on tape.
