Missing Something They Never Had

Demigod POV
The demigods walked, and in Chiron's case rolled, up to the Avengers, waiting for the group to stop conversing with each other. There was a mix of older campers and younger ones, but there were no siblings in the group. There was twenty four in all, minus Chiron, the max number allowed from each camp or school.

The reason for this gala was for schools and camps the chance to meet the Avengers and possibly get a grant. But the real reason why the demigods were there in the first place was to ask the Avengers for help. At first pretty much all the demigods at Camp Half Blood were appalled. They had to ask for help from mortals, and thus reveal themselves. Camp Jupiter was only slightly against it, only because they didn't want mortals to be brought into their affairs and get hurt because of it.

Times had changed since their savior left. The newbies in Camp Halfblood tended to become more prideful now that their constant humble tide had been banished. The ones who knew their savior and didn't slander them tended to be seen at Camp Jupiter, who told the stories of their acts and honored the hero.

The Greeks didn't say their saviors name anymore letting it be whispered faintly from cautious lips. The friends of their savior didn't tell anyone that their savior was actually a girl, it wasn't their story to tell. The gods and Annabeth didn't either, believing their savior, the "traitor", had been lying. They also didn't want to even think of the traitor as anything but what they were to them.

Even the naiads and dryads had changed. The naiads told their wooded counterparts of who they saw on the beach that fateful day so they could protect those few. Only their saviors friends could go swimming or canoeing anymore as many other campers, especially Annabeth, had found out the hard way. Ankles would be grabbed and dragged viciously before being let go, canoes tipped repeatedly. If there was one friend on the boat, they would find themselves perfectly dry on the boat as other campers found themselves at the mercy of the naiads.

Dryads hit campers with their branches as campers passed, tripping them with their roots. They also always won the foot races, not allowing anyone to beat them. If they played capture the flag, only the ones who were there for the one who held the blessing of Pan and the one who had a spirit connection with their new Lord came out unscathed.

The Pegasi refused to be ridden, bucking campers or kicking them and Terminus didn't even allow the Greeks past him, saying 'only the saviors friends. You staged a killing worse than Caesars.'

But the Fates forced them to ask for the mortal's help, saying that the coming war could not be fought without them, otherwise the demigods would fail miserably. So the Greeks pulled together a team to persuade the Avengers onto their side.

Once right next to the team of superheroes, there was a woman that they had never seen before talking amicably with the team. She was tanned, not artificially, skin soft but littered with thin white scars that only one with a practiced eye could see. She was lithe and looked small next to the super soldiers and Thor, as was customary. Another thing that the group saw was that the team seemed exceedingly comfortable with this black haired beauty.

Whenever they even looked at her they smiled, like she was the sun, like she was their glue. At least one teammate was always touching her in a friendly manner, as if they were afraid that she would be stolen away from them. A hand on the small of her back as they leaned in to talk in her ear quietly, a pat on the shoulder in passing, a squeeze or brush of the hand as they conversed, the faint touch on an elbow as they laughed, a hand around her waist or shoulders as they talked as a group.

It reminded Chiron and the other more senior campers of their savior. Their glue. The one that held them together, always offering gentle reassuring touches. Passing words of 'good job' and 'you are amazing' would shift the campers attitudes.

When the one with red hair, Black Widow, saw them, she discreetly nodded her head in the demigods direction, causing the team to turn. When the team saw them, they seemed to stiffen for some reason, gathering closer around the new woman. The Winter Soldier put a hand on the small of her back, metal hand clenching while Scarlet Witch slid her hand into the woman's left hand.

Chiron, always the level headed one, rolled up to the group. "My name is Mr. Brunner. My group here are campers from Delphi's Strawberries. We do a lot of different activities such as archery, rock climbing, and capture the flag. It is truly an honor to meet all of you, I know who all of you are, except this wonderful lady in the black and green."

The woman mentioned took a breath before answering. "I am the agent babysitting these trouble makers. Thats all you need to know."

Annabeth raised an eyebrow, not accepting that as an answer. She had to know who she was. Readying a question that would most likely hit this woman's weak spots, it was actually Bruce who spoke up. "I would advise against that. She is an agent here to babysit us. But she was also assigned to us because she is the best equipped agent to calm me down. I don't do well with crowds but I have to be here, so I would advise you to leave one of my only pieces of sanity alone."

The demigods, collectively, just blinked, thinking 'Well, shit.' The Avengers, on the other hand, were relieved that they dodged a bullet. And that Bruce was a very convincing liar.

Chiron sighed, pitying his students. "We have come to seek your help. Something big is coming to destroy the world. We can't really talk here, so we need to find a secure place. Here is our card and we can find a place to meet."

A boy came out of the group, holding a card. He had mocha colored skin, rich chestnut hair, and kaleidoscope eyes. Steve took the card, being the leader, and put it in his inside pocket.

The woman the demigods now dubbed 'Bruce's Sanity' was dragged off by Bruce. The duo left with a "I'm going to go dance with my sanity" from Banner.

A few minutes later, a few of the demigods cornered 'Bruce's Sanity', intending to get her to talk. Annabeth, the oldest and most senior camper, spoke first. "What's your real name anyway?"

The woman sighed and turned around, eyes glaring at them. "My name? The only name that you toddlers will get is Agent. And you should do well to call me that."

An Ares camper named Daniel growled, which was soon silenced as she put up one perfectly manicured finger in front of her. "Ah ah ah. Little children would do well to listen to their elders. You have no concept of the real world, and in the real world, you don't act like toddlers who were just denied a cookie."

Annabeth rolled her eyes, watching as the Agent took a flute of champagne from a passing waiter and sipped from the bubbling golden liquid. The waiter soon buzzed away, not allowing any of the demigods take one, even if one of them were legal. Only the legal guardians or chaperones of each group could get any alcoholic beverages. There was a chance that the kids, marked by lanyards, could share the beverage with their underaged friends.

Annabeth scoffed, wishing that this woman would choke on her drink. "Why are you really here Agent? The Avengers can take care of themselves."

"Have you seen Tony Stark? Pepper Potts is at least ninety percent of his impulse control and she's away on a meeting. Plus I can easily keep Banner calm. What are you here for besides whining to actual working people?"

A demigod daughter of Demeter opened her mouth to talk, only to be stopped by the sarcastic Agent when she was approached by a man in a totally black suit.

"Shhh. Mommy's talking." The man then showed the woman a file, graciously taking the champagne so she could hold said file. They began talking in rapid fire Spanish, too fast for any of the demigods to understand. The two nodded to each other, smiled, and then traded items again. The Agent then muttered "All is as it should be." (<- comment if you get that reference)

The daughter of Demeter then spoke up, not willing to be silenced again. "Why are you so rude?"

"You haven't met my boss yet then. You would've been kicked seven ways to Sunday and be crying for the next six months."

Just then Tony went over to the group, looking like he was about to start jumping with excitement. "Come on, come on!" The man began trying to drag her somewhere.

"Tony I love you like a brother but slow the hell down!"

Tony sighed and turned back to the Agent. "Tasha almost ripped a guys arm off for hitting on her. It's hilarious!"

The Agent rolled her eyes before getting pulled off, depositing her empty champagne glass on a passing servers tray.

Avengers POV

Throughout the night, the team could see that the demigods wanted to know more about Percy. So they all played keep away with Percy.

Teens try to talk to Percy? Oh sorry, we were talking. Teens try to corner her? Oops, she promised me this dance. Teens try to goad Percy? Whoops Nat is trying to kill someone and the team needs to stop her. Percy just wants some space from those gremlins? Bruce is about to go green and Tony is now talking Percy's ear off.

The night wore on to an end, Chiron wheeling up to the group by himself just before they left. "I am sorry for the situations my students have put you into. I had taught them better than that. But please do give us a call soon; we will need to meet sooner than you think."

Percy growled as she got into the car. "They are insufferable. Not keeping their mouths shut and sticking their nose into where they don't belong is always the reason for their troubles." Sighing, she pressed a button on her hearing aids, bringing them back to the visible plane. "Its unbelievable. Honestly, you could tell that they didn't want the help, but they were forced to ask for it."

Clint, as he began driving, tossed his phone over to Percy. "Text the Director. He'll understand what is happening and can get you to calm down."

Percy started to snicker. At Clint's quick look, she explained. "He called them stuck up, ass wipe motherfuckers,  with sticks so far their asses they should be called unicorns."

Clint burst out laughing, turning into the Tower's garage.

"We are having a girls night. Everyone in comfy pajamas. Bring pillows and blankets cause Clint is in charge of nesting. Nat can you grab my bag?"

Everyone split off into their different rooms before arriving in the living room. When everyone sat down, they noticed that Percy had on a comfy panda bear onesie. An explanation of "birthday present" was all the team needed. Little did they know that it wasn't Nat and Clint's gift but Fury and Coulson's. The panda bear pillow pet that she had hidden in her room was from Nat, Clint, and Maria Hill.

Clint quickly got to work on nesting and before long he was done. Percy pulled Thor down in front of her, braiding bits of his hair. She also french braided Bucky's hair, fishtail braided Wanda's hair, and brushed through Natasha's hair before finally calming down. Everyone looked at her funny, especially Spiderman and Antman.

The assassins only sat her down before Clint started to play with Percy's hair, pulling it into different styles while Natasha pressed pressure points, the two working all the pain from Percy's body. Mrs. O'Leary, at one point, found her way down and wiggled her way into Percy's lap. Finally, utterly calm, Percy started to sing a song by Theory Of A Deadman.

"The bitch came back, the very next day, oh, the bitch came back, she couldn't stay away."
