Babysitting Sucks
Update please read:
Hello- thanks for the wait. I haven't been updating the past two months because I have been facing a lot of mental health problems. But I'm back and I hope this chapter is what you wished for.
Even with Percy trusting the Trickster, the Avengers were still cautious. They had instated a guard to watch the god throughout the night.
Percy was awoken for her shift of watching outside the tent by Bucky's arms tightening around her middle in a nightmare. The woman turned around in the man's hold, facing him so she could wake him. She put her hands on either side of Bucky's face, letting her thumbs repetitively stroke his cheekbones, waiting for him to rise to awareness.
Percy felt back pop a few times as the pressure increased before she saw Bucky's fluttered open. His arms quickly released their crushing pressure, eyes apologetic. But Percy just patted his cheeks before heading over to Tony, who she saw was suffering the same fate as Bucky. Percy gently placed her hand on his shoulder, which caused the man's eyes to abruptly open, his arm lashing out and punching his supposed assailant in the stomach.
Percy ignored Tony's string of apologies as she led the two men out of the tent, quickly tossing the mechanic his tool bag and one of his projects that he brought with him. Bucky, on the other hand, she started to slow dance with him, swaying from side to side, nestled into his chest, as she hummed simple songs under her breath.
That was how the team found the trio as the sun rose over the horizon. Still groggy, the team just sat outside until campers piled out of their cabins. Glares were given out to anyone looking at the dancing duo weirdly before the team slowly got Percy's attention.
Percy extracted herself, leading her family towards breakfast. The team sat, passing around protein bars and drink packets. In the middle of breakfast, Percy stood up and addressed the crowd. "We have some business to attend to back at SHIELD. We have agreed to let a small group of demigods to accompany us, no more than three. You are welcome to decide amongst yourself who should go. That is all."
Talking immediately bubbled up as Percy sat down, the Avengers quickly finishing their meals. Once done the group went to their tent to get dressed. They all got dressed in their suits, Percy wearing a SHIELD issue catsuit identical to the one Maria Hill wears, her hair up in a perfect, smooth bun.
Once the team was ready, tent packed away and bags all good to go, they trekked to the big house where Chiron, Dionysus, and the three "questing" demigods waited.
"So. This is the team you put together." Percy said, hand on her hip. The demigods were Annabeth, of course, a demigod son of Ares named Hector, and a son of Hermes named Cole. The group nodded, allowing her to proceed. "Ok then. Ground rules. One: do exactly as I say- otherwise, I won't stop the fifty-odd agents from shooting you down. Two: do not speak or communicate in any way about anything that you see in SHIELD without my express permission. And three: I expect a certain level of respect for me and my fellow agents, no matter if you think we are just mercenaries or dumb useless peacekeepers.
"There are agents there who have seen more than any of you, and yet we still get up every morning to save the world- more than you can say while you sit here in your pristine little camp doing nothing to help those who actually need it."
The demigods grumbled and shifted around, but one look at Chiron got them to swear on the River Styx. As thunder crashed, Percy nodded, leading the teens away.
The Avengers were already all situated in their cars, those who could fly going off to meet them at the SHIELD base- Antman hitching a ride on Tony. Pietro picked up his sister and started to run, JARVIS leading his through his earpiece.
Everyone split off, Natasha, Peter, Bruce, Bucky, and Steve went in one car while Percy, the three demigods, and Clint with Dallie clambered into the other.
While driving Percy looked into her rearview mirror, looking at the three demigods packed into the back of her car. "No funny business. Your bags will be checked over when we get there. All of the other Avengers have things to do when we are there so you will be following me."
The car went silent once again, the demigods shifting uncomfortably in their seats.
Clint pulled out his phone and called Coulson. "Let all Code Dust personnel know that they should not be at base for the rest of today. They should be sent to different bases. Thanks Coulson. ETA in five."
Cole became brave enough to ask what Code Dust was, but neither SHIELD agent answered him.
It felt all too soon that the demigods got out of the car and were man handled through security. They were allowed to keep their items, even the weapons but it was a rough experience.
Looking around, they saw their Agent guide already walking away.
As they jogged to keep up, a severe looking woman walked up to the Agent. "Hill." She greeted.
The woman in question nodded, handing off a big pile of paperwork. Without another look the two departed, both headed different ways. Percy headed over to the drinks lounge, making two different coffees before placing them on a tray holder. She exited the room, heading towards the conference rooms.
Passing agents nodded at the woman, not even sending a passing glance at the three demigods scrambling to keep up. Annabeth especially took offense. Before she could spare a word, Percy shushed them before pushing opening a conference room doors with her shoulder. Fury stood next to Coulson, facing the doors, surrounded by holograms of the worlds leaders. Luckily it seemed that they were catching only the tail end of the conversation.
As Fury ended the conversation and the holograms flickered out, Percy stepped forward and gave her superiors the coffees that she made. Both nodded at her, the agent quickly turning on her heel and began walking towards the medical wing.
As the woman walked, she filled out the stack of paperwork, handing off certain packets to people passing by as she went by.
The medical bay was pristine white, curtains drawn around every occupied bed. Down the end of the line, Percy entered a bed space, crouching down in front of her dog. Clint was in the chair next to the bed, filling out paperwork silently.
"Oh they have you on the good stuff don't they honey bun." Percy cooed at her dog as she pet her ears. Dallie's tail drunkenly wagged in happy confirmation. "I'll see you later baby girl. Feel free to let her curl up with Lucky, Clint. She'll tell him off is he's too rough."
Clint smiled and nodded as a tired wuff escaped the pup.

The next two hours were just the demigods following Percy around the SHIELD base as she tirelessly worked. Filling out paperwork, helping out in the shooting range, filing paperwork the old way, talking with her other agents and comparing notes, more paperwork, and the quick cleaning of some of her weapons. The teens were tired of this all, going back and forth and not being able to get a word in edgewise. As Percy's watched beeped the hour, ten to be exact, she got up and headed back towards the garage, finding Bucky and Steve already waiting.
Steve actually got behind the wheel, Bucky in another, and Percy in the third. The teens were ushered into Percy's car, still oblivious to her actual identity.
Again, the demigods were silent as Percy navigated New York traffic, pulling up to the curb, Steve and Bucky soon following suit. Smoothing out their uniforms, the three stepped forward, Percy poised to knock right before they were teleported outside. The demigods fumbled around jostled- those of the Avengers just braced their legs and grounded themselves.
"Doctor Strange. Thank you for welcoming us into your abode. I'm Agent EctoCore and the men beside me are Bucky Barnes and Steve Rodgers. Those that are behind me are not a part of SHIELD, but their names are Annabeth, Hector, and Cole. You know about the threat that Thanos is causing us and we were hoping that you would stand with us during the fight." Percy called out to the man waiting for the him to appear.
Strange walked around the corner, Percy shaking his hand. The agent also held out her hand again, the cloak actually wrapping around her hand before shaking once, twice, before letting go. Strange himself looked surprises.
"Your cloak is at least somewhat sentient, Doctor. It is always good practice to supply courtesy to all of those whom you wish would help you. It also always pays to show the respect that magical artifacts deserve- it pays well in the long run. Anyways, Doctor Strange, we were hoping that you would come with us to a SHIELD base to talk strategy. I myself do hope that you have fully recovered from the attack upon your person, but is of the utmost importance that we can gather the heaviest hitters to help protect the world."
Doctor Strange mulled the decision over, looking up at the SHIELD agents. "Well, I can have Wong stay here in the New York Sanctum. I will also have to contact the other Sanctums in order to give Earth the best defenses."
Percy smiled at the man. "If you would allow it, we can partner each Sanctum with agents stationed near them. Extra protection is always good to have. If not, its fine, it is always under your jurisdiction."
Suddenly the group teleported, and the demigods were sent stumbling. Strange was standing near a bookshelf, quickly flipping through a few pages as he stood.
The teens looked around in wonder once they gained their footing. Hector stumbled into a suit of armor, the metal crashing to the floor and causing a chain reaction. Doctor Strange's face became more and more strained as more collapsing artifacts could be heard. Sighing, Strange waved a hand, stopping a priceless artifact from being shattered, the collapsed pieces flying back to their own designated place.
"Be glad I stopped that when I did young man. That vase contains a vicious plague that would have eaten everyone here alive."
"Really?" Hector squeaked.
"No. Its just a priceless artifact that it over fifteen hundred years old that was made by some of the sorcerers that protected this Sanctum. It would be a shame if a simple teenager destroyed all of that history."
Annabeth's eyes smoldered with hot coals of anger. "Enough! I've had enough. We have been pulled around all afternoon, threatened with bodily harm should we even speak, and now you belittle us for tripping when its your fault in the first place he fell!" Hector nodded along, Cole wisely staying behind the children of war.
Percy took a deep breath, calming her nerves before speaking. "I could have put you in the holding cells. Many agents were just itching to shoot you or at least maim due to your current history, so be glad that you had sense to keep your tongues. And you are all eighteen or older and on top of that you are all demigods- I would have thought that you could have kept your feet. Doctor Strange was in his right to scold you for not keeping steady since you are all supposedly 'seasoned warriors'."
The men behind Percy all nodded in agreement; Annabeth just got more and more angry. Before Annabeth could launch herself at the agent, Strange teleported themselves to the exit, causing the blond to fall to her hands and knees.
Strange put his hand on the small of Percy's back, leading her slightly away from the group so they could talk sensitive logistics. Steve and Bucky stepped forward, glaring at the trio with hard eyes, arms crossed.
Moments passed, the quiet indistinct murmuring a white noise in the background as Annabeth pulled herself up and brushed herself off.
The doors behind them suddenly opened, Strange and Percy heading out of the doors and to the cars. Everyone got into the cars they were in originally, Strange taking the passenger seat in Percy's car. Once on an empty strip of road a while away from the city, Percy showed pictures in the glove compartment to the Doctor, allowing him to focus on them before using his Sling Ring to create a portal to the area.
Once the three cars drove onto the grass of a secluded clearing, Strange let his powers go. Each adult climbed out of the car confidently, the demigods scrambling out, faces painted with wonder at the teleportation.
The group of mismatched people waited, looking up at the sky. Once a large shadow blanketed the clearing Percy started waving and a spaceship descended.
Thank you all for the support! Again- if you have ideas for the story or just little one shots you can see happening, you can let me know! Just wanna talk? I'm here too!
