34: The Real Truth
S. Orzechowski
After Andy woke up and could stand, we walked back to the gym. Alex and Jack send us a glance. Dallon looks straight at me with a worried look.
"Everyone, we have something to tell you- but later. Meet us at Vic's place, and we'll explain everything," Kellin says before turning to Vic. Dallon walks to me.
"What happened? Did they go crazy?"
"Yeah, Andy almost died. Not because I hit him with it but- he was willing to sacrifice himself for me. I can't deal with this anymore-" I harshly whisper.
"Sarah, he's fine. You're fine. Please, just-"
"Attention students! The storm has stopped, you may go home now," the lady on the announcements says. The school chatters as everyone files out of the building.
"We'll see you at your house," I hear Jack say to Vic before we part ways. Dallon follows me home, making sure I get there safely.
I wave to him before closing the door.
"Sarah."
I gulp and turn around slowly. My mom crosses her arms as she glares at me. "Why are you thirty minutes late?" She demands.
"The school kept us there because it was fucking thundering." I spit. "But why do you even fucking care?" I add under my breath.
"Whatever," she rolls her eyes and walks back to the living room.
I choke back tears as I run upstairs. I slam the door shut and gasp.
Dallon- Sarah, I'm outside, are you ready to tell everyone?
Sarah- Give me a second
I rush to the bathroom and splash water on my face. I throw on my hoodie and grab an orb. I grab my phone and run downstairs.
"Where are you going?" My mom stands up. "Some illegal strip club? Did you finally become the whore everyone thinks you are? Going to turn someone gay?" She scoffs.
"No, I'm going Dallon's," I mumble.
"No, you're not. You're grounded."
"For what!?" I shout back.
"For talking back and being a bitch. Go to your room!" She screams.
"You know what? FUCK YOU!" I scream back. I run out the door. Dallon looks at me weird as I rush right past him. I don't even hear my mom go after me.
"Sarah- Sarah, what happened?" Dallon asks when he finally catches up to me. "Woah- gimme- gimme a sec," he says exasperatedly. He pants and kneels down. "Phew, I am really out of shape," he breathes. "What happened?"
"My mom decided to bitch on me. I can't go back there," my voice cracks. "I can't go back-" I squeeze my eyes shut. I wish I could just disappear. Or make time stop.
"Shh, it's okay," Dallon pulls me close to him and holds me. "You can stay with me. I have a guest room, and my parents should be fine with it. It's okay," he coos.
"We should go to Vic's-" I sigh. Dallon nods and we walk to Vic's place in silence.

"Alright everyone," Kellin clears his throat. Andy helps me up and the four of us stand in a line. Vic grabs Kellin's hand and grips it. Andy and Awsten don't break eye contact. "So for a while, we've been lying to you," Kellin starts.
"Let's go back, when we were born- uh- except Sarah, but when Kellin, Andy and I were born, there happened to a horrible storm on those days. And something weird happened. Microscopic amounts of electricity went into our blood. It then made it possible for us to do... this," he turns to Kellin who closes his eyes. I watch the small bolts appear on his fingertips.
"I don't know how, but we can control electricity, run faster, we have super strength for short amounts of time, and I can turn invisible," Andy speaks up. Before anyone can even blink, he disappears. He then reappears next to Awsten.
"So after all this time... That's why you can run a mile in seven minutes?" Brendon says, appalled.
"I was going slow so no one suspected anything," Vic shrugs.
"Wait- so... you guys are like... superheroes?" Jack asks, his eyes light up.
Kellin shugs, "sure. I hate using that term, but yeah. But- the government is against us. Once, there was a man who openly had these powers, but the government didn't like it. The man only ever helped people, but the government captured him and his family, his friends. They tortured the man, but he didn't know anything. They wouldn't believe him, so they tortured everyone he cared about. That is why we were hesitant to tell all of you," Kellin explains.
My eyes widen. I didn't know that. I look around, everyone except Awsten looks shocked. Awsten just puts his arms around Andy.
"We're sorry for keeping this from you- but- we thought it was the right thing to do," Andy says.
Everyone rushes over and we end up having a giant group hug.
"We'll keep the secret, we're family, remember? Together through the darkness. Ain't no government is gonna hurt you," Dallon cheers.
"Whoop!" Brendon cheers too. Everyone laughs.
"How about a sleepover party?" Jenna asks. "We could go outside, it's 70 degrees, so it's pretty nice out, and Vic has a big-ass backyard."
"I'm down!" Tyler claps.
Dallon steps over to me.
"See, it wasn't that bad," he whispers before pulling me into a hug.
