24: Apologies Mean Nothing
A. Biersack
"Did any of you learn anything new?" I ask as soon as I walk into Vic's house. "Like maybe, how to get rid of this curse?"
"If we knew, we would have done it a long time ago. So, no," Kellin says, flicking sparks off his fingers. "Trust me. We looked."
"So did I- and my parents. They said that it would be impossible. And even if they did find a way, this curse if literally a part of us, it's almost like a major organ. Removing it could be catastrophic."
"In other words, we're stuck with this forever?" Vic asks, annoyance dripping off his words. All of us are tired of this. We don't want to deal with this any longer than we have to. But apparently, we have to deal with this until we die.
"Do you think there are others? Others that are hiding?" Kellin asks, sitting down. Vic sighs and sits next to him.
"Maybe, I guess we'll never know. It's not like we're going to scream that at the top of a building and find others. It's just us." Vic lays his head on Kellin's shoulder and closes his eyes. "When you really think about it. We're alone. No matter what squad we're in at school. No matter what clubs we join. We're forever alone."
"No, we're not. We have each other," Kellin whispers and kisses Vic's temple.
"You two are cute. You know, I've been shipping you since the day I met you two."
"We were already together, Andy."
"Doesn't stop me. Have you seen you two together? It's more magical than... Well... Us." I mutter shaking my head.
"Oh yeah? Explain you and Awsten," Kellin raises an eyebrow. I wince. He knows. Of course, he knows. He's friends with Awsten.
"I- he doesn't know. And I-"
"Andy, you broke his heart. I know why you did it but still. His heart. You can't just trample it and expect everything to be fine. Breaking someone's heart is the worst thing you could do. Trust me," Kellin purses his lips and stands up. "But we can't worry too much about it-"
"I have to talk to him again," I conclude. "That's what you've been trying to tell me. Talk to him again."
Kellin shrugs and walks to the window. "Get down!" He shouts and kneels down. Vic jumps down and crawls behind the bed. Kellin looks up and me and grabs my hand, he pulls me down. "I think the police found something. They're probably just in the neighborhood, going to every house. For now, we have to just hide," he explains.
"Do you not have invisibility yet?" I whisper harshly. He raises an eyebrow. I roll my eyes and take a deep breath. I open them again to see Kellin's face contorted with questions.
"Andy? You were serious? Where are you?" He looks around. Vic pokes his head out and crawls out. "Andy, I know you're still here, you ass."
"You'll get them eventually," I say, going back to visible. "It's hard to control at first, but that's all. When it first happened to me, the crowd thought it was stage magic."
Kellin grabs my wrist and drags me to the closet. Vic crawls in behind us and closes the door. We end up hiding behind piles of old blankets, and even under them. We hear a knock on the door.
"Vic? Kellin? They're gone now," I hear someone say behind the door. I hear the door open. "Seriously? Dios Mio," he mutters.
"THANK YOU!" Vic jumps out and opens the door, nearly slamming the guys face. He groans and glares at Vic. "Mike, this is-"
"Andy Biersack?" Mike's eyes light up and he nearly faints. "Oh my- I love your music and I love that show, I was at the concert a few months ago- wait- Vic, you know Andy Biersack?" Mike starts grinning like one of those clowns at a circus. "Andy- In front of me- he knows my brother?"
"Pleased to meet you, Mike. I'm assuming you already know me."
"He's my brother, Andy," Vic whispers.
"I know. I'm sorry I never got the chance to formally meet you until now." I smile gently. Watching as he nearly faints.
"I'm just gonna- Hah- YEAH!" And with that, he bolts out the room and slams the door. I turn to Kellin who looks just as amused as I feel. Vic sighs and sits on his bed.
"Are you gonna-?" Kellin asks me slowly. "Talk to him?"
"Fine. But don't expect anything good!" I throw my arms up and stalk away. I turn the corner and see Kellin looking at Vic. I stop and watch as Vic leans forward and kisses Kellin.
Young love. I roll my eyes and walk downstairs.
"Leaving already, Andy?" Mrs. Fuentes asks me.
"Yeah, I have unfinished business to attend to. But thank you for having me over."
"Anytime," she smiles. I walk out the door and sigh. Why am I doing this?
~~~
I stare at his door for about five minutes, looking like a creep, probably. But I'm on that line where you want to do it, but you also don't. I raise my finger to the doorbell and pause. He hates me. Nothing's going to change that. I sigh and slowly press my finger against the button. I feel my heart pounding in my chest, I imagine it sounds like the inside of a blacksmith. I wait as I hear the door open.
"Hello- you," I gasp and stare at Awsten's mom. "You're the son of a bitch that hurt my son. What are you doing here?"
"I really need to talk to Awsten-"
"After all those years? He's finally starting to move away from that pain and you want to bring that back?" She narrows her eyes at me. I feel my heart start pounding louder, faster.
"I-"
"He's not here, you ass. Now, are you going to go, or do I need to-"
"Can you just give him this?" I pull out an old paper, that's been in my pocket since the day I got back. I pull it out and scan it for a second before handing it to her. "You can read it if you want. Please, just- give it to him."
"I don't understand what this means-"
"But he will. It's nothing bad, I swear. Please just promise me, you'll give this to him," I plead softly. I start to feel tears collect in my eyes.
"I- Fine. I'm trusting you, I don't know why. But I am. Don't take advantage of it, mister," she scolds before closing the door. I sigh and dash off all the way back home.
If she lied, I think I might die. He has to see the note.
He has to.
