14: Thunder Sucks and Flashbacks are Great

R. Ross

The thunder booms and crackles. I open my eyes and stare out into the bare darkness that surrounds his room. I feel a sense of security, with his arms around me protectively. I hold my breath as the thunder booms again. I hear him move and he stares at me.

"Ry? Is it the thunder?" He asks softly. The thunder booms again and I flinch in response. He sighs and moves closer to me. "It's okay, no one's going to hurt you, not as long as I'm here," he comforts, calming my nerves. I slow my breathing as the minutes past. Brendon, awake, next to me. Helping me. It's been a while since someone's helped me with this mild fear. I stare at him, remember the first time we met, back in the summer before eighth grade.

Dad and I walk into our new house. Then, not three hours later, a lady and her son are at our front door holding a batch of cookies. They give us a warm welcome and hand my dad the plate. The young boy waves to me, staying silent and waiting for his mom to finish speaking. My dad and the boy's mother walk out and leave us to introduce ourselves.

"I'm Brendon Urie. I'm 60% memes, 100% gay, and 420% high," he jokes grinning from ear to ear. I notice he acts differently without his mother. He must have read my mind, because he continues to explain, "right, so... My family is Mormon as fuck- wait, are you cool with cursing?" He asks. I shrug and nod my head. "Okay, cool- and anyway... I don't know why, but I'm just on edge around them, so I don't talk much with them around, but spend some private time with me, and you'll be covering your ears, begging me to stop talking," he shakes my hand. "And you are?"

"Ryan... Ross, it's a pleasure," I say politely. He blinks and suddenly bursts out laughing. "Are you always this formal?" He asks, taking in a deep breath.

"I guess I'm just shy?" I attempt to defend, but it almost as a question.

"Well, you should just meet my friends," the boy with the cute eyes smiles, "they'll help me get you out of this protective, 'I'm a new and shy kid' shell of yours," he winks. His mom calls for him. "I'll see you around, Ryan," he then walks off.

The way he said my name, sounded different. At least, different than what I'm used to.

Maybe I can get used to this place.

I sigh, and lay my head on his chest, ignoring the thundering booms. He pets my hair and kisses my temple. Slowly, the booms fade in my ears and my eyes feel heavy with each passing second.

"I love you, Ry," he whispers.

"I love you too," I mumble back before I finally let my eyes shut.

A/N

Not a lot of memes, but a hell-ton of Ryden so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have fun with that.

P.S.

I just realized that my cpu glitched tf out, so both of today's chapters updated when I turned Wattpad on later... aka, it was buffering the load and then loaded really late. But I blame tech so... It doesn't count.
