Chapter 4

It was a week later, and Harry was happy that Draco was going out on walks with him and Felix more often. Draco was quite pleasant company, and Harry found that he could talk to the other man about everything and anything.

Today however, was an off day. It had been a rough day in Defence, and both men were a little worse for wear. Draco had skipped dinner, and Harry seriously considered doing the same until Hermione dragged him down. Harry frowned, knowing Draco didn't have anyone to do that for him. Harry didn't eat much, so it wasn't unusual for him to bring a plate of food back up to the dorm.

Knocking on the door, it was opened quickly, and Harry shut it before Felix could come in at risk of him eating Draco's food.

"Potter."

"Hello Malfoy. I brought you dinner."

"You didn't have to do that," he said quietly, "but thank you."

"I wanted to. It was a rough day for both of us, and you weren't at dinner."

"Worried about me were you?," he asked lightly.

"I always am. I worry about you more than I worry about myself."

"You run directly into danger, that's not saying much Potter," Draco teased with a snort.

"You wound me Malfoy, truly."

"Are you always this dramatic?"

"Must've picked it up from you."

Harry narrowly dodged the pillow thrown at him with a laugh, and Draco couldn't help but smile.

"You're just something else Potter," Draco remarked, hiding his growing smile as he ate a bite of food.

"Something good I hope. I'll see you later, yeah? Got some Charms to finish up."

"Thank you Potter, really. This was very thoughtful of you."

"Of course."

With that, Harry was gone, and Draco was left alone to continue dwelling on his thoughts. Harry was doing the same as he got ready for bed a few hours later, wondering if he'd be able to sleep tonight.

He awoke from his nightmare with a start as Felix seemed to wake him up with a new fervor, and immediately started whining and pawing at the bathroom door. Harry thought he just had to use the bathroom, but Felix tugged on his pajamas and tried to drag him into the bathroom too. Immediately Harry was worried and opened both doors.

The sight before him stopped him in his tracks, and he was thankful he had Felix to wake Draco up. Draco was twisting and writhing painfully, his blankets tangled around his body acting as restraints. As Felix carefully woke him up, Harry's brain finally kicked in and he ran to get a glass of water, and then removed the blankets from Draco's arms and legs.

"Huh?"

Draco was confused. He was sweaty with tears in his eyes and his hair was matted down, not to mention his face was now wet and Harry Potter was staring at him while there was a dog in his lap.

"Nightmare," Harry explained. "Here."

"Thank you," Draco whispered.

Harry did not like this quiet and timid Draco one bit. He was broken and vulnerable, and Harry wondered if that was what he himself looked like when he woke up from a nightmare.

Giving Draco a few moments to collect himself, Harry decided to open the window to let some fresh air in, exhaling heavily as his own nightmare washed over him.

"Are you okay?"

"I should be asking you that." Harry cracked a grin.

"It's normal, but today really was hell. I'm sorry if I woke you?" Draco's voice turned unsure at the end of his statement, making it sound like a question.

"I was woken up the same way you were, just with a bit more teeth."

"How did you know I was having a nightmare?"

"Felix did actually."

"How?"

"I have my suspicions really. I'll have to work that out tomorrow, it's too late to think so much, really."

"Do you ever think much?"

Draco winced and was going to immediately apologize but Harry laughed.

"Some things never change. Merlin Malfoy, it really is so refreshing to talk to you."

"That slipped out."

"I don't mind at all. Just because we're friends doesn't mean you need to treat me much differently. I'd be quite bored and honestly a tad concerned if you were nice to me all the time."

"Noted. You are such a good boy Felix," Draco cooed, hugging him tightly. "I have half a mind to duel you for your dog Potter."

"If my baby boy goes missing I know exactly where he'll be," Harry challenged.

"Did you want to come and sit?"

The question was asked unexpectedly, but Harry nodded and sat next to Draco, Felix in between them.

"I can leave the bathroom door open when I sleep if you'd like. In case you need a wakeup call."

"I don't want to be bother-"

"Your nightmare looked painful. If my theory is correct Felix will just wake me up so he can get to you anyway."

"Okay, thank you."

They sat in silence for a few minutes, their thoughts wandering, as they both pet Felix. At one point, their hands touched. Instead of jerking away, Harry grabbed Draco's hand and squeezed it lightly as a sign of reassurance.

"You're a good friend Potter."

"Thanks. So are you. You really are nice company."

"I'm sure I'm a sight to see when I'm fighting off my own blankets," Draco said with a snort.

"I got tangled up in my blankets once and swore when I woke up that I was entrapped by Devil's Snare again. I sleep with my wand under my pillow and I somehow cast Lumos Maxima in my sleep. The guys didn't let me live it down for weeks."

"I'm sorry, did you say ensnared again?"

"How much have you heard about the Philosopher's Stone?"

"I know that it was hidden here somewhere."

"How much time do you have for a story?"

"All night, I'm not sleeping again after that nightmare."

Sensing he wasn't going anywhere, Felix curled up at the bottom of Draco's bed, his head resting on his paws.

Harry then launched into the true tale of what happened their first year at Hogwarts, right under everybody's noses. It was nice to be able to share that, and he had to admit that he liked the captivated look Draco was giving him. He always paused to answer any of Draco's questions, and by the end of it they were both in a fit of giggles.

"You touched him- and he- and he- disintegrated?"

"I didn't mean to! Oh Merlin in fourth year he walked up to me and said 'I can touch you now' and I had no clue what he was going to do to me! Who says that to a 14 year old?"

"Do- do you think be-because he disintegrated-"

Draco couldn't even finish his question because he was laughing so hard. Harry didn't know when they had gotten so close, but now Draco's head was on his shoulder and it was quite comforting.

"I want to laugh too," Harry whined.

"Do you think part of his nose was lost?"

Harry hadn't laughed this hard in forever. The thought was killing him. Voldemort did have a pronounced nose when he was on the back of Quirrell's head. All Harry could think of was when people would tease babies saying they've got their nose, and once he finally choked that out to Draco, both men were sobbing and gasping for air so much that Felix woke up and was on high alert.

They were laying on the bed now, Harry's face pressed into Draco's shoulder as they laughed. Every time one of them calmed down, the other would giggle or whisper "nose" and they'd start all over again. Felix was so bothered by the noise that he went back into Harry's room.

After what felt like forever, the two finally calmed down, their faces red from laughter and tear tracks drying on their faces.

"This is one of the best times I've ever had here," Draco remarked.

"Me too. I'm sorry about how it started though. Did you want to talk about it?"

"Just memories of getting Crucioed is all. By my father, by... Voldemort, other death eaters. I know I deserve the nightmares but-"

"No, you don't deserve the nightmares. You didn't do anything-."

"Exactly, I didn't do anything. I was a shit death eater and I chose the right side too late. I've made my bed and I'm lying in it."

"Well I'm lying in it with you then," Harry huffed, summoning Draco's blanket. "What on earth is this made of? I didn't even know they made blankets this soft."

Draco let the earlier conversation go and they started talking nonsense about blankets. Soon enough, it would be time for the sunrise.

"Bloody hell did we stay up talking all night?"

"We did indeed."

"Who would've thought."

"Do you wanna see the sunrise with me?" Harry asked.

"That... that could be nice."

"Come on then."

"I haven't watched the sunrise on purpose in forever."

"I watch it when I can't sleep," Harry admitted. "It'll calm me down enough that I can nap for an hour or two before breakfast."

"Maybe I'll try that too. It's easier to sleep when the sun is up," Draco replied, following Harry into his room.

The last thing Harry grabbed was a hoodie from his closet, but he hesitated briefly.

"Did you want a hoodie?"

"Is that some kind of muggle clothing item?"

"It's like... A shorter robe with no zipper? Here."

Making sure to give Draco his cleanest hoodie that had gotten a little too small for him anyway, they headed off to the Astronomy Tower together in silence, not wanting to speak in case anyone was patrolling the halls.

Once they finished climbing all of the stairs, Harry grinned as he leaned against the door.

"It's beautiful at this time of day. I usually only come up here at night."

"I'm rubbish at identifying stars. Quite pretty to look at but I never know what exactly I'm seeing."

"We'll go out one night then. I'm quite good with Astronomy."

"I'd like that," Harry replied with a grin. "I'd like that a lot. I'm sure you can't wait to show me your namesake constellation."

"It is quite beautiful, as I am," Draco teased.

"I'll believe it when I see it," came Harry's (mostly) joking reply, but Malfoy didn't need to know that.

The two men sat together on the ledge of the tower, their legs pressed against each other.

"This would make a beautiful picture."

"The sun doesn't photograph quite well, at least on muggle devices. Let me show you."

Harry and Draco accidentally ended up documenting almost their whole morning. From pictures of the sunrise itself, to selfies, and then to photos and videos of each other, neither man had ever felt quite so alive. It was easy to forget their shared history when the teasing was lighthearted and they were both smiling.

As they walked back to their tower sometime later, both were yawning and rubbing sleep out of their eyes.

"Nap time," Draco agreed.

"See you at breakfast?," Harry asked.

"Depends how tired I am," Draco admitted.

That was mostly the truth anyway. Draco just hated all of the whispers and stares so he preferred to get his food elsewhere and eat alone.

"I'll see you later then. Sleep well Malfoy."

"You too Potter. Give Felix my love," he teased.

"He's going to be so spoiled."

"I think he deserves it."
