Now, sept. 10, 2110

Confusion, adrenalin and fear.

The lights from street lamps and ambling auto drive cars made wavering spears on the rain slicked road. Lainy's z-gav car crept silently down the elevated hi-way as she kicked at the automatic drive control box by her legs. If she could get that off she might get away.

The auto-control cars around her vehicle swept by slowly in an annoyingly unhurried pace. She could see and hear all the robotic police cars behind, the red and blue lights cast bright streaks across her face. The warbling sirens lilted loudly from behind.

With a sharp crack, the control unit snapped and she had total control of the car now. She slid the acceleration toggle all the way forward, never having manually driven her Audi zero gravity car, she was surprised by the speed it could reach. Now she sped past the other vehicles, swerving silently around them and getting surprised looks from the people in them, at leased the one she could see. Along the sides of the hi-way were railings, blocking her escape. Behind her, Lainy saw the police cars coming up on her. She reached across her body and pulled on her seat belt, she caught the golden glint from the custom, gold pistol on the seat next to her.
An automated delivery vehicle merged from an on ramp nearly hitting Lainy's car. She seized the opportunity as it presented itself and clipped the front end causing it to spin out. The lead robotic cop car's electronic brain applied the brakes and stopped, the ones behind couldn't react quickly enough and one collided with the stopped vehicle, flipping over and smashing into another cop car. This caused a sizable pile up. She hoped there hadn't been any humans in the cars that were involved. She drove on  for a while noticing the cop cars were no longer behind. She sighed heavily, letting out the breath she didn't even realize she had been holding.

Suddenly three blacked out z-gav's flew onto the hi-way at speeds much higher then the auto nav cars usually go.

" Damn , who the hell are these fuckers?" She exclamed as she slammed the acceleration toggle forward once again and scanned the view ahead looking for an escape. The rain pelted the windshield, the metronome like swiping of the wipers served to calm and focus her. She saw only one option... Swerved straight at the guard rail and braced for impact. " Shit, shit, shit." She screamed the last "shit" on impact. At the speed she was moving, she ripped through with a screech of metal on metal, sparks sprayed brightly from both sides as she grinded through. She pulled back on the z-grav's power toggle, which controls the elevation, and fell vertically down, seeing level upon level of elevated hi-ways flying by. As she passed through the smog layer, thick, black and suffocating, she was essentially falling between the decaying and crumbling buildings of the old NYC. As the empty ground level road approached Lainy pushed the power lever all the way forward and pulled back on the steering wheel leveling out, hoping this stupid idea would work out. Her descent slowed and with a  slight crash she landed, relatively softly. She hit the wheel release button and the wheels detracted, she almost got out and kissed the ground in relief. "Well that went well. " She said, to no one in particular, her voice dripped with sarcasm.

She drove the car into an ally, weaving around various items of detritus and trash bins, and she parked. Lainy reached over to the passenger seat and grabbed the gun. Next she pressed an illuminated button on the armrest control panel and a re-breather mask slid out from a formerly hidden compartment. She slid the mask over her head, covering her mouth and nose. Then got out into the, cool, dark, poisonous night air.
