part 8
Lainy hid the gun in her right hand behind her back, after checking the magazine and cocking back the hammer. She stood in front of the door, here the apartment was way bigger then hers and only had a solid-gram door, not the whole wall, and slid two fingers across the inner surface. The door wavered a bit and turned transparent so she could see out but whoever was outside couldn't see in.
Outside was a young looking, strikingly handsome man, his face was screwed up in fear and panic. He pounded again, frantically. His well muscled arms taught with exertion and something else, Lainy thought it must be anxiety. He pounded even harder, " Lainy, I know yer in there, please...its..its urgent!" He yelled. He stopped and started straight through the door and seemed to be looking right at her. "Look," he said, his unusual eyes pleaded. "I'm Ryder Jepson. I work with your father.."
"My fathers dead." Lainy said flatly.
"We don't have time. Come with me now and they will follow you and yer friend won't get hurt." Ryder pleaded again and Lainy noticed his irises were different colors the right one yellow and left blue, both, looked out of place in the almond shaped, heavy lidded eyes. "Look!" He held up an old fashioned digital photo frame with a picture of Lainy as a little girl and her father. She recognized it as the one her dad always kept with him when he was traveling for work. She had decorated the frame herself when she was 5 as a fathers day present. "Put that gun away and just come on, there ain't time fer this, Lets go!"
"What the shit?" Lainy asked rhetorically, wondering how he could have known she was now pointing her gun at the door. Intrigued by this surprise stranger, she grabbed Jules and planted a kiss on her red, downturned lips and said, "Jules, I'm gonna go with this guy, I don't know if its a good idea or not but, fuck it, maybe tonight is the night for me to die." Jules handed her the bag and Lainy slung it across her chest. She turned and swiped left with three fingers, across the door, it wavered and disappeared.
Ryder looked her up and down and noticed the gun in her hand. "Good you have it, we'll take care a that when we have a second. Took you long enough to decided." He brushed a lock of black hair that had fallen onto his face back and held out a hand. "Now lets blow this twentieth century frozen juice stand, we might just have time to leave before they swarm this building.", Lainy thought about correcting him but changed her mind, then, they ran.

They burst out of the exit in back at a full run, having cut through the kitchen. Ryder pointed at an R-grav monocycle. He bellowed, "Get on, and hold on tight!", then tossed a Bell compact helmet's headband at her. Lainy placed it on her head and it automatically tightened around her forehead and a full face helmet seemed to just unfold around her entire skull, then hopped on behind Ryder. He grasped the hand grips and twisted the right one. The engine roared to life, surprisingly loud for the micro atomic engine equipped in this kind of R-grav. They lifted slightly from the ground and took off, Lainy had to grab tightly around Ryder's solid, narrow waist. She smiled inwardly at the feel of his taut abdominal muscles.
As they sped down the street, kicking the backend of the mono sideways around a sharp corner, a short blue light trailing behind, a group of large black Z-gravs fell in behind them. Ryder yelled over his shoulder," Lainy, can you shoot on the move?", then reached into his jacket and removed her gun's big brother from his shoulder holster, a gold plated desert eagle 50 caliber, and past it over his shoulder to Lainy.
"Fuck yeah!" She exclaimed, gabbing the gun in her left hand and cocked it. She then reached around her back with the right and swung her gun out, already cocked and safety off . Lainy spun bodily around on the seat to face backwards and opened fire. She sprayed the cars with a barrage of high caliber, hot lead. The world of 2110 isn't equipped to handle the 20th century's overpowered, killing machines like these two golden death dealers, and the front runners engine exploded, Lainy's eyes protected from the flash by her helmets visor. The remaining three vehicles swerved sharply to avoided and sped up, one side swiped a pedestrian vehicle causing it to spin and crash with a loud metallic smash.
The dark tinted windows of the remaining two simultaneously rolled down and black suited men leaned out, ties flapping wildly with the wind bred from the high speed, and began to fire bright, red bolts from the Ionized Particle Accelerator phasers in their hands. Ryder saw the bolts in his helmet visor's h.u.d., and swerved from right to left avoiding a near miss. Another volley came and another swerve.
Lainy tapped Ryder on the shoulder and spoke to him using the comlink in the helmets. He nodded and squeezed hard on the front break handle and the rear break peddle, slowing them considerably with a burst of yellow flame from two ports on either side of the front repulser engine. Lainy pointed the guns straight out on either side, which made her look like a lowercase t, as the two cars sped by on either side of the slowed monocycle, She fired rapidly into the driver side of the right z-grav and the passeger side of the left.
The bullets ripped through the vehicles with the effort of a arrow through paper, splattered the right side driver's brain all over his well dressed passengers face and caused him to smash into a building. It exploded in a spectacular flash of light and raining glass and metal.
The other vehicle's driver made it out without being shot, but he distractedly smashed head on into an automated street cleaning vehicle. Lainy cheered and spun back around. She grasped Ryder around his waist once again and they turned off the street to the onramp that would return them back to the raised streets of New Metropolis.
"Where we going?" She asked, the adrenaline coursed through her vains and she felt like she could take on the world or maybe just go somewhere quiet with this mysterious, hardboiled, not to mention insanely attractive man.
" I have a safe place up there" he nodded his head upward,"and we need to talk. We also need to take care of that gun. They'll just keep finding us if we don't remove the tracker."
Lainy started at the gun, not for the first time and hooked it back in the waistband of her black pants. " What the fuck have I gotten into here?" she thought, lapsing into a contemplative silence. They sped on quietly, without talking, Lainy trying to control her urge to like this stranger, a battle she felt she was already losing.
