chapter twenty nine

I woke up this morning with flowers on my bedside. A note placed beside them expressing Garroth's happiness of marrying me. I haven't seen Garroth since last night. He was gone early in the morning before I woke up.

Cadenza, Kandi, and Zianna are downstairs waiting for me by the time I dress myself. Cadenza is cooking in the kitchen as the other two sit on the couch. They look up at me with beaming smiles.

"Where's your son?" I ask, sitting myself down beside the two Ro'meaves. Zianna peaks over at Cadenza before looking over at me.

"With Zack," she says, bringing breakfast early in the morning. "I'm glad you woke up when you did. I would've felt horrible waking you up on your wedding day."

My wedding day. The mere thought brings a smile to my face. I've been waiting for this day for so long, and it's hard to believe that it's finally here. "I wouldn't have minded. Waking up to flowers was a pleasant surprise."

"It makes me so happy to know that my Gargar is becoming so romantic to those he loves!" Zianna's squeal echoes off our walls. She seems even more excited about this date than I could be.

Cadenza lifts me to my feet and brings me to the table. We sit together and enjoy what Cadenza has made. It almost feels like old times between us at Meteli. I almost forget that both Zianna and Kandi are sitting beside us.

We joke and laugh and talk as we eat. We reminisce on old memories and embrace what's new to us. The mothers in the room try to give me insight on what it's like to be a married woman, but I cannot remember half of it. Kandi sat there awkwardly, twiddling her thumbs together. My mind wanders to Garroth and our wedding that is in a few hours. I will soon be a married woman.

Cadenza stands from her position at the table and places her dishes behind her on the counter. "Kandi, if you'd be kind enough, please take care of these dishes while I prepare Alex's dress for her to wear."

I stand up, pushing in my chair. I reach for my dishes, but Kandi places her hand over them. She tells me that she does not wish for me to lay a hand on anything, and instead worry about myself for the time being.

Zianna ushers me up the stairs to Cadenza. I look up to my sister to see my dress waiting for me to step into when it is time. Instead of being dressed, a robe is held out to me to get into for the time being. I blush at the sudden thought of undressing in front of others again, but I'll be undressed for the most part while I'm being put into my dress.

Cadenza sits me down in a chair looking out of the window. I watch people rush around busily through Phoenix Drop. The selfish side of me likes to think it's the preparations of my wedding.

She gently begins to brush through my hair, smiling down at it. I can feel as she lifts strands, runs a brush through it, and then lets it fall against the back of the chair. This happens over and over again.

Kandi comes up the stairs with a small bouquet of flowers. She places them in a vase full of water near Cadenza. "Nekoette found them this morning," she says. "You had mentioned to her once before about wanting flowers in your hair when you're being married, so she went out to search for nothing but perfection. She told me this this morning."

I reach for the vase to examine the flowers. They're beautiful, and it seems that she has stuck to our color scheme. "They're beautiful. We must save some for her to place in her hair."

While Alina and Lilith are far younger than Nekoette, I wanted no one but her to be my flower girl. I believe it'd be wonderful to match flowers because of our special bond.

"We'll have to see how many we have left after we do your hair," Cadenza says, still fumbling around with it. She looks at Zianna, throwing out the idea of doing makeup first. She agrees and takes a step to the side, saying that she's going to check up on how the setup is going.

It leaves just the three of us when Zianna leaves. Cadenza examines my face by tilting it side to side. It's decided that I will wear something that looks natural. That's what I've always done anyway.

It's still early in the morning, and we have a fair amount of time before places. We should have a good amount of time for the others to dress and for myself to be done getting ready. I fear this day will pass by quickly, but I prefer not to put my mind to it.
