chapter twenty five
Garroth is somehow a morning person. I suppose that came with the entire being a guard thing, but he puts me to shame. I'd sleep past noon if I could, but my "let's be a good girlfriend" ass wants to wake up about the same time as him to make breakfast.
Even though Zianna is here, that doesn't mean that our duties go away. Today is my day to watch all the children, and Garroth is helping to expand the market square. This means, on top of making breakfast, I also have to make a picnic for eight people. Thankfully, three of the said people are babies, so they don't need what the other children would want.
Garroth wants me to invite Zianna to join me in watching over the children for some mother-in-law daughter-in-law bonding time. I'm not against it, especially because a second pair of hands would be wonderful with three small children.
I roll over onto my side after giving out a small yawn. Garroth looks over at my awakened figure and smiles softly. "Morning sleepyhead. Did I wake you?"
I sit up in bed and feel the blankets fall onto my lap. I lift my arms above my head to stretch before getting out of bed. "No, my body and mind decided it was time to get up and make breakfast."
He nods his head and slips his shirt over his head. He's dressed for the day, and I'd much rather stay in my pajamas for the rest of the day if I could. Though, I don't think it'd be appropriate because it's simply just me wearing one of Garroth's t-shirts.
"You're not going to wear that to make breakfast, are you? In front of mummy? You're not wearing pants."
I stare at him like he's silly before walking over to my dresser and looking for an outfit for the day. I can't help but find both amusement and annoyance in his paranoia regarding Zianna's arrival. She hasn't even been here for a complete 24 hours, and Garroth is already stressed.
I lift a dress and rest it against the bed to glance Garroth's way. He's putting on socks on the other side of the bed. "Garroth, she watched us walk into our room. She knows we sleep in the same bed," I say, rolling my eyes before walking over to him and gently massaging his shoulders. "You're not as innocent as you were 25 years ago. I think you need to come down and stop being so paranoid. Now, get out, so I can dress myself for the day."

"You do this on the daily?" Zianna comments, watching as I prep the blanket with the children's lunch. "Watching seven children. I only had to watch over four. Even then I had help."
I can't help but laugh at her slight amazement before calling for the children to come for lunch. As per usual, Dimitri is first to the blanket and slides into it from the grass. I can't help but shake my head at his actions. There's a long strand running down his pant leg that Kawaii~Chan will have to try and get out again.
"We rotate supervision from time to time. Zoey will watch them, Kawaii~Chan will watch them, Kandi will watch them, and I will watch them. It's not too much trouble. I enjoy doing it. It allows for the others to extend without having to worry about little fingers getting in the way."
Lunch never takes long. The children are more enhanced with the idea of going back to play rather than processing what they're putting into their mouths. I could make a liver sandwich, and they'd think it's baloney from how quickly they eat.
Nekoette is typically the last one to finish eating, and the boys tease her for taking her time. I'd rather have Nekoette take her time than rush and gain a tummy ache later.
"Garroth and I were talking." My words sound like I'm distracted as I clean up what mess the children created. Zianna is feeding Luca as she watches over Lilith, finger picking with her food. Once I clear the blanket, I'll feed Alina and rest her against my lap for a nap. "If you wouldn't mind, we do want you to help Kandi with wedding planning. I was thinking that you could take charge with making the cake because Garroth raves about your baking skills. I talked it over with Kawaii~Chan this morning when I picked up Nekoette and Dimitri."
I've already explained to Zianna whose child is whose. She seemed conflicted with Nekoette and Dimitri's situation. She didn't realize at first that they had different mothers, but she was thrilled to see how well they had gotten along with one another. It's like they've known each other forever in my eyes.
"Are you sure you want me in charge of something so important? I wouldn't want to step on my daughter's toes."
I nod my head as a response, grabbing onto her hand as I explain more in depth about why I wanted it to be the way it is. I keep to myself the comment that Kandi would probably want Zianna to do it anyway. Besides, I want Garroth to relive happy times from his childhood with his mother. I don't want him to continue to dwell on his past as a whole.
Zianna seems pleased with my train of thought and agrees to help to the best of her control. We seem to be bonding in a way that would make Garroth proud. I can only hope that she'll continue to be in Garroth's future more frequently as long as she can. I am unsure when she will, or if she will return to O'Khasis, so I want to make the most of it in the long run.
