chapter thirty

"We have enough leftover flowers for Nekoette," Cadenza says, placing the rest of the flowers in the vase. She adjusts strands of my hair and watches them fall around my face to frame it. I look up at her before she looks over at Kandi and gives her the remainder of the flowers. "We'll send them to her."

I frown a bit at this. I would like to put the flowers in Nekoette's hair, but I understand that she is Kawaii~Chan's daughter and that's a bonding moment between them. Cadenza looks down at me and places her hands on my shoulders.

She lifts me to my feet and brings me over to my dress. I feel a wave of anxiety wash over me at the sight. There's no regret on where I am, but the fear of somehow messing it up when I walk down to Garroth. I want to be a good wife. Garroth deserves at least that.

There's a brief moment of coolness as my newly bared skin meets the air of the room. Cadenza quickly moves me into my dress and tries to lace it up. Zianna says that she'd like to take over, so Cadenza could get ready as well. Hesitantly, Cadenza agrees and walks over to the other room to begin doing her makeup.

I can feel my bodice tightening the further up Zianna's hands go. It's creating a structure to my waist and framing it. My arms sink into the tuling of the dress, and I admire the delicate lace sewed. Cadenza truly went to no end in order to make me feel like a princess.

"Do you realize that this is the last time you're going to be calling yourself a Zvahl?"

I look into the mirror in front of us, admiring my appearance. This is one of the rare times when I actually feel pretty. "I hadn't put much thought to that," I say, a light coating of pink dusting my cheeks. "Alexandra Ro'meave. I like the sound of that a lot. Mrs. Alexandra Ro'meave. I feel like a little girl right now."

I can't help but to giggle at how silly I sound. Of course, I've thought about how my name was going to change. It wasn't something that was such a big deal before. But now that I am in my dress staring at myself on my wedding day, it seems like a daydream.

"I see more of a blushing bride on her wedding day, and I do say that my son couldn't have chosen any better."

There's a knock on the door, and Dante walks in after being given the all clear. Zianna excuses herself from the room to finish getting ready. I assume she's going into the other room by Cadenza.

"My little girl grew up. I'm a happy father."

I laugh at Dante's comment and shake my head. I step away from the mirror and adjust how the bottom of my skirt is resting. "Funny how you forget how seventeen years ago you were only two years older than me."

He comes forward to give me a gentle hug. It's a semi-air, semi-physical, hug where only part of his arm touches me. It's like he's afraid to give me a real hug or else I'll fall apart before his feet.

"And yet I'm the one who is aging like fine wine."

My mouth drops open before he reaches out and shuts it, teasing me about how silly I look standing with it open.

Insulting me on my wedding day, I see. Could've insulted you if I was here. I keep this to myself, trying to stifle the giggle that's threatening to come out. I'm incredibly happy, so I'm not even going to respond to him with a cuss.

Dante goes on explaining how the wedding should start soon, and he'll come back when it's time to start placing people. Again, I am complimented on my appearance before he lets a little girl in that was waiting patiently at the other side of the door.

She smiles up at me, and I can see Dante moving to the side to give us a bit of privacy. Nekoette lifts some of my tuling and watches as it slowly falls down against more. She giggles out how pretty it is, and I can't help but smile at her cuteness. It's my wedding day, but she's beaming with joy.

I look over at the vase of flowers and notice that Kawaii~Chan never got around to placing them in Nekoette's hair. She wasn't given them, either. I call her over to sit in my chair as I grab onto the flowers. She takes notice of them in my hair and comments on them, saying she was happy I was using them.

"I went out when I woke up and found them. Mama didn't even have time to put breakfast on the table before I was outside!" Nekoette seems proud of herself at the thought, in her own dreamlike state, before she realizes that I'm putting the remainder of flowers into her hair.

"Even the flower girl needs flowers in her hair," I tell her, putting the empty vase next to us on the hard surface. I lean forward by her ear, giggling. "It goes with the title."

Dante steps into view and tells Nekoette that it's time for her to go back to the others. He looks back at me with a soft smile and nods his head. I smile back at him and look out the window, looking at the village that is slowly becoming vacant.

It's all like I imagined it'd be. Flowers decorating the ceremony as I step on top of fallen petals. The man that I love standing at the other end of the aisle waiting for me as he watches my every step. Someone who is like a father to me, walking me down the aisle. People sitting around on both sides of the aisle watching as it all unfolds.

I lock eyes with Garroth a few steps in. I can't break it even if I wanted to. His smile is as wide as mine is, and I can't tell if I'm going to cry from happiness or not.

Dante stops guiding me and goes to sit next to the others. Garroth holds my hands in his, and I look down at our hands and then back to him.

The entire ceremony goes by in a blink of an eye. Before I know it, I'm saying "I do" to Garroth, and we're walking back down the aisle together as husband and wife.
