39. Relationship Status.
***Piya's POV.***
"How do I look?" I ask Subu.
"Lower the phone a little." She says and I do so.
"Now?" I ask with a broad smile.
"You will look more like her sister than girlfriend. Can't you have worn a skirt or shorts maybe? But track pants? Really? It feels like you are going on a walk at night." Subu criticizes.
"So mean." I say.
"Thanks. Now change." She says.
"Fine. But I don't have any skirts and I won't wear shorts." I say.
"Ask your Nand maybe she will help you out. She may have less fashion sense than me, but at least it is more than you." Subu says.
"Hey!" Siya exclaims.
"She is there. Why didn't you say so?" Subu asks in shock.
"Serves you right." I say and give the phone to Siya, who starts a national argument on how she has good fashion sense, because she has two sisters who are good at that.
While I try to find something more fashionable as per Lesly's order, I need to present myself like a very cool yet elegant person as now I am Veer's girlfriend. It isn't that she doesn't like me. It's just she now knows me better and also my love for black clothes. So she specifically warned me not to wear one, as it isn't a funeral.
So here I am, dressed in a yellow t-shirt and baggy track pants. Veer actually told me to wear anything I like and it would be easy for him to find me if I wore black, but I want to show my support for him and also make this tournament go well for him. So I will follow Lesly's order, as she knows what is best in both of our interests.
"Come with me Piya. I will show everyone what good fashion sense I have." Siya says, literally dragging me to her room.
"You both are ready, Siya?" Mayra Aunty yells out that question.
"You all go ahead, Mom. We will be right behind you." She says.
"Don't get late." Mayra Aunty says.
"Okay." Siya says. She opens her closet and looks inside for a few minutes.
"Siya, we need to hurry. I don't want to be late." I say.
"Don't worry. You won't be. I am a very fast and good driver. Sometimes I think I should be a formula one racer. Here, try this. Quick." She says and gives me an outfit.
I go into the bathroom then come out wearing it, "It is a simple white churidar."
"So. You look nice in them and simple too." She says.
"But Lesly said..." I say and Siya sighs.
"Lesly said you need to look cool and elegant, which you are. And Piya," Siya says and puts her hand on my shoulder, "You need not to worry about my brother's fans or what they think of you. They won't see your clothes but your expression. Also, you are there to cheer for my brother, not for a fashion show. Not to forget, we Indians have a great liking for traditional clothes."
"You are sometimes so..." I can't find the right word.
"Thoughtful, right? I know. Let's go now before we get late. But before that..." She says and opens the drawer of her dresser and takes out some accessories, "You can wear this in the car."
Siya has a very competitive spirit, but people often forget that she is also a person who is very compassionate and protective. She is very mature but won't show it to anyone because maybe she enjoys competing, especially with Karan. I just hope they don't end up doing this their whole life.
Siya was right when she said she was a very fast driver but also a very rule-abiding one, too. Within fifteen minutes we reached the venue. When Lesly found me, she smiled at me and asked me and Siya to take the seat near the ring, as the VIP ones were already stuffed.
"That was inevitable." Siya says with a chuckle.
"I will let Papa know." I say.
"This way you can really cheer for Bhai." Siya says, bumping her shoulder with me.
"Hey guys!" Adya says as she waves at us to come to her.
"Adu!" Siya says and grabs my hand to go there, "When did you come? And why the hell did your brother not tell me?"
"Because you would have dragged her to your house." We hear and turn around to see Karan, who is carrying too much stuff.
"No, I won't have done that." Siya says sheepishly.
"Hmm... Siya Di, last time you did that and then you locked me in your room, too." Adu says with an innocent smile while I look at Siya in shock.
Siya scratches her head as she says, "I love her. She is such a precious doll."
"More like you wanted her favor, to poison me." Karan says.
Before I could know the reason, Adu asked me, "How are you, Piya Di?"
"I am fine, Adu. How are your studies going?" I ask.
"Almost finished with my MBBS. Then I will join Mom in her work for my internship." She says.
"That's great." I say, "What about you Karan... What's happening here?"
Siya and Karan are staring at each other, and there is a line forming behind them. I roll my eyes and go to stop them, but Adu's next words do the deed when she says with her sweet smile, "Aww! You both can't take your eyes off each other. How sweet!"
"It isn't like that." They both speak together.
"So mean." She whines and hides behind me.
We all sat down to watch the match. I have always attended Veer's all the matches before and it used to be... painful. Often when I used to hear a crack or a hard punch, my stomach would revolt, but I would hold it in to support him. It isn't like I don't like to see him fighting, but I do fear him getting hurt.
I am sitting in the middle of Siya and Adu and beside Siya is Karan, who has kinda become our supply for food now. We catch up with each other while the arrangements are taking time. The front seat is too front in the first row, which will actually feel like I am standing right behind Veer, but then I could cheer for him more.
Two matches go by and then Veer's name is announced, but I get distracted by Adu who asks me an odd question, "So, Piya Di, what is your relationship status with Veer Bhai?"
"What do you mean?" I ask with a confused smile.
"Did you have intercourse?" She says it so innocently that it takes me a minute to understand what she meant.
"Adu! How ca-can you... ask me that?" I ask.
"But aren't people in a relationship copulat-" She goes to say but I put hand on her mouth.
"You can't be that innocent?" I ask.
She shakes her head and I remove my hand, "I am not. I am a doctor."
"And a dense one at that." I hear Karan say.
"Adu just doesn't have any filter and is very honest." Siya says in Adu's defense.
"Which often lands her in trouble." Karan says.
"And whose fault is that?" Siya argues back.
"Obviously not me. Ask my mother." Karan says.
"Still, you could have helped her." Siya says.
"How could I when I am busy competing with you on stupid things?" Karan says.
"Who asked you to compete with me?" Siya asks.
"Do I have to show all the recordings I made of you challenging me?" Karan asks.
"You are the reason she doesn't have any friends." Siya says.
"She is the reason for being innocently direct and not having friends." Karan says and his eyes widen in surprise, "I am sorry, Adu. I didn't mean it."
"Congratulations, Veer Bhaiya." Adu says and cheers aloud.
"Thank goodness she didn't hear it." Siya says with a sigh.
"I missed the fight." I say in surprise.
"Piya, are you okay? You need to look happy instead of frowning like that." Siya says and I turn to her.
"Both of you get up." I say.
"What?" They both ask together.
"Get up and take a seat somewhere else. Go." I say.
"But why?" Karan asks.
"Because... because of you both, I missed my boyfriend's first fight in this tournament. Leave right now." I say strictly.
"But it was Adu." Siya says.
"She just asked a question concerning my health and I can handle it like always. It's just that she has become more... innocently blunt now. But I can still handle her. Now go." I say.
"Fine." Siya says.
"Karan." I call him before he leaves.
"I can stay?" he asks with a smirk towards Siya, who looks like she is about to burst.
"No. But the snack can. Leave them and go." I say and he pouts as he puts them down.
Siya looked cheerful, but then she rushed ahead of him to find the next best seat. When I looked back at the stage, Veer was leaving the ring with an enormous bruise on his arm. I ask Adya about the match and she describes everything in vivid detail, along with the possible injuries that could have happened if Veer hadn't avoided them. I doubt my decision to send Siya and Karan away at that moment.
Come what may, I won't miss his next match. So whatever questions Adu poses at me, I answer her honestly. She is honest, so it is the only way one could deal with her. Also, she doesn't mean any harm, it is just the way she has been brought up by her parents and Shravan.
I blame him for Adu turning out like this. He better marry her so she can ask him millions of odd questions for lifetime because then I will enjoy him dying with embarrassment like I am right now.
Veer's quarter final match was amazing to watch. The way he would move to dodge a blow and land a punch, then the way he tried to block, was superb. But I often got more focused on his body then fight, all thanks to Adu who filled my head with all those stupid things which I was pushing back in my head for some time now.
This is so silly. Why do people think that just because we are in a relationship, we are bound to do that? Even Maa gave me contraceptive pills last month and that too with a smile and saying enjoy. It embarrassed the hell out of me. She isn't supposed to be cool about this.
As I see Veer winning the finals and taking the trophy, I think about what he thinks about us being together in that way. Does he want to move to that level in our relationship, too? And if so, then should I move ahead too? Do I really want to?
The problem is, I don't know... yet.
But I do know that I want to be close to Veer before I leave for Paris for a year.
