22. It Is Over.

***Piya's POV.***

"You look sexy today." Kanika says teasingly when I come out in another black outfit of full length sweater dress.

"Thanks. You look nice too. But wouldn't you feel cold in that?" I ask, pointing at her skirt, which is knee-length and sleeveless top.

"I would be fine, and if I feel cold, I can obviously snuggle into Veer. He knows how to keep a woman warm like he did when we were on the picnic to Kullu." She says with a dreamy look in her, "Careful, Piya, otherwise the necklace would break."

I put the necklace away, which I was clutching in my hands. She seriously gets on my nerves. Rather than wasting my time on her, I focus on braiding my hair. After last night; I have made up my mind to tell Veer about my feelings which refuse to stay suppressed anymore.

Things had started to change the moment we started this trip. One event led to another showing me that I can not live like this. In doubt. I have to get answers to my questions, which could only be possible by asking the right person who is Veer.

I don't want to live my life in what ifs, too. Getting closure is necessary. And now that Veer has assured me that nothing could ever break our friendship, I will keep that promise in my mind and accept any result I will get. Whether it is acceptance or rejection.

But first...

"Have you told Veer that... you love him... yet?" I ask.

"Why would you ask?" She asks and narrows her eyes at me.

"I asked first." I say.

"Oh, my! Don't tell me you're finally going to confess?" She asks as she sits up.

"Just answer me, will you?" I ask.

"No, I haven't told him yet. But are you trying to sabotage me?" She asks.

"No." I say.

"Then you are giving me a chance to confess first?" She asks and after a second I nod, "How generous. But don't you think it would be a big disadvantage for you?"

"What do you mean?" I ask in confusion.

"What if he accepts my confession?" She says, and I clench my hand behind my back.

"Then I will accept it, but it won't change my decision." I say.

"But won't you regret it?" She asks.

"Not telling him would be regretful. You told me that. But telling him would be too?" I ask in confusion.

"I mean, what if there was a possibility that if you had told him earlier and he might have accepted your confession as he is closer to you, but now that you have decided to do it after me, you lost your chance?" She asks, and my eyes widen in surprise.

"I don't care about the results. My motive is to just let him know, nothing else." I say and go to the open door.

"Oh, Piya! You are such a terrible liar." She says.

"No, I am not." I say, looking back at her.

"So you wouldn't be bothered if we started dating and you got rejected?" She asks, but I refuse to give any answer and open the door and leave.

We toured around Srinagar the whole day. First at Dal lake, then in tulip gardens, museums, some mountains and some other lakes too. The whole day Kanika was hanging out with Veer and Dev while I became a bone between two kebabs called Rihaan and Subu, who, by the way, are now officially engaged.

In the morning, Rihaan showed me his ring that Subu gave in proposal. We were shocked at first, but congratulated them both. When asked about marriage, Subu said it would be after two or three years as they both are busy with their careers right now, but just wanted to assure each other with the rings as a promise.

It was very romantic.

"Here." Subu says, giving me a glass which contains something brown.

"What is this?" I ask.

"It is a local beverage called Chang. And as it looks like tea and has almost a similar name to it, maybe that. Just try it. Everyone is having it." Subu says, and I look around the bonfire.

After coming back from tour, some people invited us for a bonfire celebration they were having in the hotel's backyard. They were nice, and the party was really entertaining. Right now, all of our friends are scattered around while I am sitting on a stool beside a bonfire.

"Okay." I say and take a sip.

It tastes sweet and fantastic and not to forget it is helping me to get warm too. So after I finish my first cup, I ask for another one. I was on my third cup when the people around me started to get a little blurry. I blink and look around again but find it funny when a fog covers everything.

"What are you giggling about?" A freakishly pale man asks me.

"Why would I tell you?" I ask.

"Because I am your friend." He says sitting beside me.

"Huh? My friend? But I never saw you before." I say and look back in the distance and blink when I see Veer surrounded by all the ladies.

"I am. Remember, I met you a few minutes ago, and you smiled at me?" He asks while I frown at one woman who leans in to whisper something in Veer's ear.

"So what?" I ask, as I dislodge his hold on my arm.

"Hey! Behave." He says in warning as he takes my arm again.

"Hey! You behave." I almost scream and grab him by the collar.

"Release me." He says.

"I will." I say with a nod, "In the bonfire. You will be sacrificed for the goodwill of my mission today."

"No!" He says with wide eyes.

"Yes!" I say as I want to see him squirm some more.

"Leave me." He says.

"Okay." I say with a smile and almost succeed in pushing him into the bonfire, but someone grabs my arm.

In panic, I turn and kick the person in the gut, only to realize that it is Veer.

"Damn it, Piya. Do you not want us to have kids or what?" He asks, but I am more focused on getting angry at that pale man because of whom my Veer got hurt.

"You! You are the reason Veer is hurt. I will kill you." I say and lounge towards him when Veer puts his arms to me.

"Calm down, Piya. Calm down. What did he do that made you want to burn him?" He whispers in my ears soothingly that I almost fall asleep.

"He said he was my friend and then behaved rudely with me and also threatened to burn me." I say and start crying.

"I did no such thing." The pale man says.

"Leave before you get punched by me. You know who I am. Right?" Veer says, and his anger makes me happier than anything, even the drink I took.

"Good work, Veer." I say with a smile and take another glass of that drink from a tray.

"Stop drinking that." He says, taking the drink from my hand.

"But why? It is so good." I complain.

"Come with me. You need to sleep." He says.

"But why?" I ask as he picks me in his arms.

"Do I come?" Subu asks.

"No, you should enjoy the party with Rihaan. I will take care of her. But I will call you if it gets out of my hand." He says to Subu.

"Subu! My darling Subu! I love you. You are the cutest person in the world." I say to her and give her a flying kiss.

"I am getting her drunk again just to hear that." She says with a giggle.

We were passing the ladies who were hanging around my Veer and I roared at them, scaring them a little. Veer looked away and his shoulder was shaking. Is he crying? But why? Did I make him cry?

I hit my head with my hand and said, "Did it hurt?"

"What?" He asks.

"My kick." I say.

"A little." He says.

"Want me to kiss it better?" I ask.

"What?" He asks and almost stumbles.

"Veer!" I say, and hold on to him tightly.

"What did you say?" He asks, and I slap my head again.

"Arey! Let me show you. Here." I say and kiss his cheek, "Better?"

He blinks with red cheeks and mumbles something.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing." He says and lays me on the bed.

"Wow! Did you fly, Veer?" I ask with a giggle.

He smiles and shakes his head, which makes my head spin a little too. Veer moves around the room doing what I don't know, but then he starts removing my shoes. I blink down at him and his messy hair again calls out for me to run my hand through his hair.

Veer looks up at me and I have just started to dip my head down for his lips, which are calling out to me when the door bursts open.

"Veer, you are here. I have been looking for you everywhere." Kanika says.

"Why? What happened?" Veer asks as he goes to her side.

"I wanna tell you something important. Can you meet me tomorrow morning in the gardens?" She asks him.

"Sure." He says and his phone rings.

"No, Veer. Stop." I go to say, but Kanika closes the door before he could hear me.

"Come on, Piya. You promised to let me confess first." Kanika says with a pout.

"But I know him before you and the longest since birth. I should do it first." I say.

"Too late. I am going to confess first thing in the morning." She says.

"Then I will do it too. Before you. Right now." I say start to get up but get a little dizzy and suddenly nauseous.

"I know that look. Don't puke here. Come." Kanika says and rushes me towards the bathroom.

She rubs my back and washes my mess and face, then she orders me to chug down an entire bottle of water and helps me get changed too, then pushes me to go to bed. I refuse to sleep, but as soon as I fall back on the bed; I feel it pulling me down to it and I lose my consciousness.

I woke up to the alarm and frowned as I didn't put it there. My head is hurting like hell, but I find medicine and orange juice on the table beside the bed. I immediately took it and was just about to relax when a note caught my eyes. I open it and the words written on it bring back some memories of last night.

'Take the medicine and relax while I confess to Veer. Hope it goes well.'

It didn't take me a second to jump out of the bed and run towards the gardens. I didn't care if I was in my nightsuit, nor did I care if I was barefoot in this cold weather or that my hair looked like a bird's nest. The only thing I cared about was what would Veer do?

Would he accept Kanika's confession?

And I get my answers when I reach the gardens and see them both hugging each other with a radiant smile on their face.

That's when I realized it was all over.

"It is all over." I whisper to myself.
