Chapter Eight:
You Are Safe

A little while later we were sitting watching the news. Carlisle and Jasper watched concern as Emmett had his arm draped over the couch behind me.

"Police are baffled by the escalating murders and disappearances. Theories range from a vicious new gang to a wildly active serial killer... Reporting live, Dawn Chubai. CNN," the reporter says as Edward and Bella enter. I smile at them snuggling into Emmett's arm that is around me.

"It's getting worse. We're going to have to do something," Carlisle said making me sigh with worry.

"It takes more than one of our kind to cause the damage they're reporting. Quite a few more. They're undisciplined, conspicuous...," Jasper said trailing off as Edward looks concerned.

"Newborns," Edward said making me sigh. Rosalie and Emmett told me all about newborns and how much damage they can cause.

"What, like new vampires?" Bella asked making me roll my eyes.

"No Bella. Like new babies," I told her rolling my eyes making Emmett sniffle his laugh and Jasper shake his head at me with an amused expression. Edward just rolls his eyes though.

"In their first few months after the change," Edward said before Jasper interrupted him.
"That's when we're at our most uncontrollable, vicious, insane with thirst," Jasper told her and I saw Bella tense at that.

"Something to look forward to," Emmett said making me slap him. He looks at me with a pout but I just roll my eyes at him turning back to Jasper.

"No one has trained these newborns, but this isn't random," Jasper told Carlisle.

"Someone's creating an army," Carlisle says as Jasper nods Emmett rises enthusiastically.

"Oh, now we definitely going to Seattle," Emmett says making me pinch the bridge of my nose wondering how I was mates to such a man child.

"An Army of vampires?" Bella asked still not believing it.

"No Bella an army of babies. Yes, an army of vampires. I mean how hard is it to believe. I mean you are literally dating a vampire. I am mated to two and we are in a vampire covens house," I told her making her roll her eyes at me as Emmett kisses the side of my head.

"And they've been created to fight someone," Jasper said as I tried to figure out who could be building an army but my only thought is one vampire.

"We're the only clan even close to Seattle," Edward says trying to figure out why this was happening.

"Regardless, of who are they were may, if we don't put a stop to them, the Volturi will. I'm surprised they've let it go on this long," Carlisle said making me look up at him.

"Maybe they're behind it. In Italy, I read Aro's mind... He wants me and Alice to join him. Our gifts would shore up his power. He knows we'd never choose him as long as our family is still alive. His coven also like Ana. They call her their favorite human," Edward says while I smile and everyone who didn't know that looks towards me.

"An army could solve that for him," Jasper says and I watch Bella as she takes this in.

"We can't wait two weeks for graduation; you need to change me now—," Bella started before both Jasper and I interrupted her.

"No," I said at the same time Jasper started talking.
"You'd be a liability as a newborn. Unable to control your instincts. An easy target," Jasper tells her, and I nod pointing at him.

"Thank you," I whispered to him making him smile as
Carlisle puts an empathetic hand on Bella's shoulder.

"There's also your father to consider. And your mother. How terrible would it be for them if you suddenly disappeared?" Carlisle tells her and I pause at that wondering about me.

"Wait does that mean I am going to have to disappear because I am immortal now. Because I'm not leaving my dad," I told Carlisle and he looked at me in pity.

"Yeah no, I'm not abandoning him no not ever. If what Aphrodite told me was true then no," I told Carlisle as I stood up and started walking outside.

"I got it," Rosalie told Emmett and Jasper as they started going after me. She then walked outside to me leaning against the telling not saying anything.

"I'm not leaving him. Aphrodite told me a lot of things, and I just can't. I can't Rosie," I told her with tears in my eyes and she immediately pulled me into a hug.

"It's going to be okay baby. I promise," she told me as I just held her tighter not wanting to let go.

A little while later I finally let go of Rosalie to head him. Getting there I saw dad sitting on the couch watching the game. I smiled at him going to sit beside him.

"Hey munchkin," dad said and I smiled at him cuddling into his side.

"Hey Dad who is winning?" I asked him and he smiled down fondly at me and started telling me about the game.

For the rest of the night that is how we stayed watching the game and talking about how the players could be better. It was normal which was exactly what I needed right now.

That night Emmett and Alice were on watch with Paul and Embry.  Emmett was watching his mate's window when suddenly he heard crying and Ana moving around.

"Ana," he muttered as he sped up to her room. He saw her and immediately figured out that she was having a nightmare.

"Annie. Annie, it's okay," Emmett said as he wrapped his arms around his mate who was crying in her sleep. He tried to wake her up but it wasn't working.

Suddenly a figure was in the room and Emmett turned to see Rosalie standing there with a worried expression.

"Alice called me," Rosalie said as she walked over to both Emmett and Ana.

"She's not waking up. What am I supposed to do?" Emmett asked and Rosalie sighs walking up to their mate.

"It's a nightmare and you need to lure her out of it. Here let me," Rosalie told him as she sat beside Ana on the bed.

"Ana baby wake up. It's okay you are safe," Rosalie said as she ran her finger through Ana's hair. Soon enough Ana's eyes started opening.

Rosalie smiled sadly at her as Ana opened her eyes.
"It's okay. It's okay," Rosalie told her as Ana started crying in her arms.

"I-I was ba-back there. I was back in the wa-t-water," Ana said in between cries. Rosalie holds her as she cries and Emmett looks at the scene sadly before walking to both of them and wrapping his arms around them.

"We got you, Ana. You are safe. You're not back there," Rosalie told her making Ana nod as she snuggled closer to her mates.
