Chapter Eight:
Volturi

"Come on Ana! Come on breathe!" Paul yelled as he gave her CPR. With Jacob and Bella crying behind him finally, Ana starts coughing up water.

Pauls sighs in relief and turns her on her side to get all the water out before pulling her into a hug.
"You're okay, you're okay," Paul says as Ana hugs him tight.

"Yeah, I am. Where's Bella?" She asked as she pulled away, but before she could respond a body was thrown into hers.

"Ana! You're okay," Bella says as she holds her close. Ana hugs her just as tight.
"So are you," Ana sighs in relief.

"Boys get the girls home. I'm heading toward the hospital. I'll meet you there," Sam said and both boys nodded.

"Why would you both jump? Didn't you notice it's like a hurricane out here?" Jacob asked as Paul continued hugging me trying to stupid me from shivering.

"The rocks crumbled and we fell. We didn't jump," Bella tries him but I realize something.

"Sam said hospital - someone's hurt?" I asked them and they looked at me with sad expressions.

"Harry Clearwater had a heart attack," Jacob told us and we both looked at him wide-eyed.

"Oh my Goodness- does our Dad know?" Bella asks him as I continued looking wide-eyed.

"He and my dad are both over there," Jacob told us and I nodded at him.

"Will Harry be okay?" I asked him with a sad expression.

"I don't know. Come on. I'll find you both something dry and I'll drive Bella and Paul will drive Ana home," Jacob told us and I nodded at him with Paul helping me up.

After putting on the hoodie I had Paul starts driving me home. I snuggle into his side enjoying the heat he radiance.

"Hey, are you sure you are okay? You were under for longer than Bella and hit your head harder," Paul asked me and I smile at him as we pull up at the house.

"I'm fine Paul. I promise. I just want a warm shower and my pajamas and to snuggle with my baby," I told him and he laughs at me hugging me once again.

"Never do that again. I thought I lost you. I can't lose my little sister," Paul told me and I smile at him with tears in my eyes.

"Never," I promised him and he smiled at me kissing my forehead and I started getting out.

Right before I opened to door Jacob swings it open with an angry expression.
"Uhm Jake, what's up?" I asked him and he pointed to someone in the house.

I turn to who it was and my eyes were wide open.
"Alice?" I asked as she comes and pulls me into a hug. I tense immediately and she notices and pulls away.

"I thought you were dead," she told me and I look at her wide-eyed.

"Why?" I asked her and she looked down.
"I got a vision of you and Bella drowning," Alice told me and I sighed at that.

"Did you tell them?" I asked her and she nodded looking down.

"They were there when I got the vision," she told me and sighed. Before I could say anything else the phone rang and Jacob asked. After he hung open Alice got pulled into a vision.

"No," Alice whispered wide-eyed when she came out of it.
"Alice, what's wrong?" I asked her immediately even if I was mad at her that doesn't mean I don't care about her. Alice ran into the kitchen and I follow her.

"Alice, what's wrong?" Bella's Asian her seeing her panicked and worried expression.

"Edward," Alice tells her, and Bella immediately tense.
"What about him? What happened?" Bella asked her and I went to wrap my arms around trying to calm her down.

"I just saw him in a vision. He... thinks you're dead," Alice told her and Bella looks at Jacob realizing something.

"That was him calling, not Carlisle," Bella tells him and I look towards Jacob wide-eyed and betrayed.

"Bella, he's going to Italy... to the Volturi," Alice tells her and looking at Bella, and sees her decision and nod running upstairs to get packed and changed.

After all that I grab Sugar and call Jess.
"Hey, Jess it's Ana if my dad calls I'm staying with you," I tell her and she immediately says okay.

"Here watch Sugar," I told Jacob giving him the dog. I kiss Sugars cheek before running to get in the car. Bella gets in the back as I get in the passenger seat. As Jacob keeps pleading with Bella to stay.

"Maybe Jacob's right," Alice says and Bella tries to interrupt but Alice stops her.

"No. You need to realize - the Volturi could easily see me as Edward's accomplice. And you're a human who knows too much and tastes too good. They could kill us all. Besides Ana, because she is a third mate," Alice tells us and I look towards Bella and she nods putting her seat belt on.

"We are not going to let him die because of guilt," I told Alice and she nodded speeding off.

"They are going to kill me," Alice muttered thinking no one heard her but I smirked at her.

"The best things in life are the ones that are a little daring," I told her and she shook her head at me but before she could say anything her phone rings.

"Hey," Alice says I couldn't hear what the voice said.
"Just give me a second you will understand," Alice said before she holds the phone out to me. I look at her confused before she all but throws the phone at me. I glare at her picking it up.

"Hello?" I question making all the Cullens on the other side of the phone tense and look directly at the phone in Jasper's hand.

"Ana?" Jasper questioned with his voice breaking a little never thinking he would hear my voice again.
"Oh hey Cowboy," I told him and I heard him laugh at that.

"How are you alive?" He asked me softly.
"I had someone pull me out of the water and give me CPR. I'm okay Jaz but I have to fo we just arrived at the airport we are heading toward Italy to save Edward from the Volturi. Talk later. Bye," I said hanging up against his protest.

I smiled at Alice as we got out of the car and headed to the plane. I sat beside the window as Bella sat in the middle between Alice and me. Soon enough I fell asleep and was woken up by Alice's shaking me.

As Alice got the car Bella and I waited for her. I smiled at Bella as Alice shows up with a bright yellow Porsche with the windows tinted. Bella gets in the back as I get in the front.

"Where'd you get the car?" Bella asks as Alice.
"Hope you're not opposed to grand theft auto," Alice says and I shake my head at her.

"Not today," Bella says as Alice floors it and the Porsche peels out. Bella grips the back of my seat as I grip the dashboard as Alice narrowly misses a car.

"How much time do we have?" Bella asks her.
"He's waiting till noon when the sun's at its highest.
He's going to make the Volturi change their minds," Alice says as Bella cheeks her watch.

"It's almost noon now," Bella says freaking out. I grabbed her hand rubbing a circle over her knuckles to calm her down.

"There's Volterra," Alice points out and both Bella and I turn to see. It was beautiful but there were people walking around in red.

"Why are they all wearing red?" Bella asks her the exact thing I was thinking.

"San Marcos Day festival. The perfect setting. Large crowds. The Volturi won't let him get far enough to reveal himself - he's counting on that," Alice tells us and all I could think was that he was an idiot.

"We only have five minutes," Bella says just as Alice screeches to a halt at a roadblock. Italian police wave her back.

Bella jumps over me jumping out knowing that he wouldn't sense only her because if he could read both mine and Alice's thoughts which would make him rush into it.

"Where's the square?" Bella asks Alice
"Follow that lane," Alice tells but Bella's already running.

"He'll be under the clock tower!" Alice yells as we watch her go.

"Come on," Alice says as she wraps her scarf around her neck. We keep in the shadows when we finally at the doors Alice breaks it as we walk inside with me behind her.

"Come on, guys, it's a festival," Alice says as she pulls me inside. I smile at the red eyes looking at me as we reach Edward and Bella.

"We wouldn't want to make a scene," Alice says and I was just looking at her thinking we are though. Making Edward glare at me and I glare back. Making him look down and me smirk.

"There won't be any scene. And we'll still win," the guy says while the smaller one was just watching me trying to figure me out.

"But not easily," Edward says but before a yoke can respond a young blonde girl shows up.

"Enough," the girl says who wears a dark overcoat, her angel-like face peering out from under the hood with red eyes.

Her two henchmen back off immediately. Edward and Alice step back, as well. Both Bella and I can see they're afraid of this small girl but I just smile at her liking the way she radiates power.

"Jane," Edward says nodding his head at her.

"Who is she?" Bella asks Alice who looks towards her.

"Just do as she says. Both of you," Alice says looking directly at me. I roll my eyes at her as Jane tosses Edward an overcoat.

"Yes please put that on. I am sick of seeing your neck chest," I told him making him glare at me as the two henchmen smirk.

"Follow me," Jane says as turns and heads up the alley, confident they'll follow. The short henchmen smirk and gestured for us to go ahead of him. Edward takes Bella's hand as I sped up to the blonde.

"Sorry to interrupt your power walk but can I just say I love you already," I told her making her side-eye me as everyone watched wide-eyed.

"And why is that?" Jane asks me and I smile at her.
"Because you are a woman who is tiny and scares everyone. You are a role model to women," I told her and she smiles at me.

"I think you might be my favorite human," Jane told me and I smile at her.
"Of course I am. I am amazing," I told her as we got to the elevator.

"So what are your two henchmen's names?" I asked her making her smile as the two boys scoff.

"The short one is Demetri and the tall one is Felix," Jane told me and I smile at the two.
"Nice to meet you two," I tell them giving them both a soft smile to which they nod.

"Buon pomeriggio," the receptionist said and I smile at her. (Good afternoon)

"Grazie. Spero che passi una bella giornata," I respond to her making her smile at me. (Thank you. I hope you have a good day)

"Is she human?" I hear Bella asks Edward.
"Yes," Edward tells her, and I roll my eyes at her question. Of course, she's human she has regular eyes.

"Then why is she? She wants to be," Bella says as Jane smirks.

"Or dessert," Jane says making me laugh quietly at her reply as we head through the lobby. Finally, we reach the carved double doors to which the two henchmen open.

We walk into three men sitting on thrones with right guards including the three we were within the room.

"Sister we send you to bring one and you come back with two and two halves," one of the guards says as Jane walks over to him. I look toward Alice confused

"He knows that two halves make a whole right?" I ask her and she glares at me shaking her head. I raise my hand in surrender.

"Just asking," I told her rolling my eyes and facing the front again. Then the one in the middle of the thrones stands up with a smile on his face. I can't determine whether it's creepy or not.

"What a happy surprise! Bella is alive after all. Isn't that wonderful?" Aro questions as he grabs Edward's hand. The blonde king looks like he ate something sour and the other one was staring at me.

"Her blood appeals to you so much it makes me thirsty. How can you stand to be so close to her?" Aro questions as I just look around the room. I then just sat down on the floor ignoring the confused looks.

"It's not without effort," Edwards says and I just roll my eyes at him I was still mad at him for making my mates leave and I knew that he knew that.

"I can see that," Aro says laughing as Bella looks confused.
"One touch and Aro can see every thought I've ever had in my life," Edward tells her, and I look wide-eyed at that. I couldn't figure out if it was amazing or insensitive.

"You're quite the telepath yourself, Edward. Though... you can't read Bella's thoughts. Fascinating," Aro says as he releases Edward's hand and turns to Bella.

"I would love to see if you are an exception to my gifts, as well," Aro says as he reaches for Bella's hand. She hesitates, like she has she have a choice. Aro laughs at her reluctance, further extends his hand. Bella finally takes it. A beat as he holds her hand confusion sweeping over him.

"Interesting," Aro says as he releases her and the. moves back to his chair, deep in thought.

"I wonder if-," Aro starts as Edward reads his thoughts.
"No!" Edward says.

"Let's see if she's immune to all our powers, shall we Jane?" Aro asks him I look towards Jane in excitement wondering what she was going to do.

Jane turns toward Bella but Edward springs in front of her. Jane instead focuses her gaze on Edward.

"Pain," she says as he collapses, writhing in agony. Jane concentrates on him with a small smile, enjoying his pain. I bust on laughing watching the scene in front of me. The three kings look at me in confusion and Aro turns back to the scene the other two keep watching me.

"Stop!" Bella yells as she and Alice rush to his side

"Jane dear," Aro says and as soon as Jane looks away, Edward's pain ceases. I pout at that.

"Yes, master?" She questions as Aro eyes, Bella.
"The girl?" Aro says as Jane turns to Bella and Bella waits for pain but nothing happens making Aro laugh.

"Remarkable! She confounds us all. So what do we do with you now?" Aro questions but looking into his eyes I can see he already made his decision.

"You already know what you'll do, Aro," Marcus the king who has been watching me says in a bored tone.

"She knows too much; she's a liability," the blonde angry king says.

"Rude," I muttered making him turn to me glaring to which I glare back. He smirks at me and I smile back.

"That's true. Unless Edward intends to give her immortality, but that's not your intention, is it? Shame," Aro says and I didn't even react already knowing this.

He nods to Felix who moves toward Bella, but he only takes a step, and as Edward was about to attack I stop it.

"Alright stop! This is getting boring!" I yell making everyone turn to me.

"Explain," Aro tells me looking intrigued.
"Coming to meet the all feared Volturi I thought would be fun but so far I am beyond bored. The only thing I have enjoyed so far was meeting Jane and watching her torture Edward," I told him making him smirk at me.

"Is there any point to this?" Caius sneers at me.
"Okay rude," I told him with an upset expression.

"Sorry," he tells me making everyone look wide-eyed including him. I smile at him as Aro smirks at me.

"Do continue little one," Aro tells me and I smile at him.

"Like I was saying if anyone wants Edward dead it would be me obviously," I told them making everyone look confused.

"And why is that?" Caius asked me looking intrigued.
"Well in case you didn't realize I am a third mate," I told him making everyone beside Aro and Marcus look wide-eyed. Third mates, we're very rare.

"And Edwin over here convince them to leave me which hurt like a bitch. I mean it still hurts and it hurts every single second of every single day but I learned to live with it. And even though I want it to kill him I won't. Even if he hurt my sister I know that he was doing it for the right reasons in his own stupid way. So if you kill him, you are killing him for falling in love. Love is what makes life worth living and you all know it. It is the one thing that makes everyone human," I told them making them all stare at me.

"Also she is like the clumsiest person ever and will probably die like falling down the stairs or something or be changed by someone else," I told them making Bella glare at me as Alice got pulled in a vision.

"She's right. Bella will be changed and I will change her. See for yourself," Alice said as she gives Aro her hand. He sees Bella and Edward running throw the woods with her skin glowing and her eyes gold.

"Mesmerizing! To see the things you've seen, that haven't happened yet!" Aro tells her when he comes out of it.

"Your gifts will make for an intriguing immortal. Go make your preparations," Aro says.

"You're letting them leave?" Caius questions him.
"Dear Caius, surely you see her potential," Aro tells him.

"Let us be done with this. Heidi will arrive any moment," Marcus says disappointedly.

Aro gestures toward Demetri who throws open the carved double doors. Caius glares at them threateningly.

"We will make sure she follows through. I would not delay. We do not offer second chances," Caius tells them and I smile at him winking.

As we start heading to the door Aro's voice stops us.
"A moment Anastasia," Aro says and I nod at Edward and Alice who looks at me in worry. As they leave I turn toward the kings.

"Yes?" I question him and he smiles at me.
"You will be an interesting immortal. You have a gift I have only seen once in all my years," Aro tells me and I look at him confused.

"And what is that?" I asked him as Caius answered.
"Humanity," he tells me and I look at him.

"You made everyone in here feel human for just a moment. You made them feel your feeling and with that made Caius the most ruthless king apologize to you," Aro told me and I sighed at him.

"Seriously I couldn't have had a more interesting gift. Like shooting lasers at people or creating fire?" I ask them and Aro smirks at me.

"Nice to meet you, Anastasia," Aro tells me and I nod at him.
"Same to you," I told him walking towards the door.

"The bond is still there but weak. The only way you get it to stop hurting is to forgive them," Marcus told me and I look towards him.

"You know I tried. I tried to live again but it was so hard and just a few hours ago I almost died. I was drowning and during those last few moments, it all faded. The pain. The heartbreak. It felt freeing and I hated it because I am not that girl and I never will be that girl," I told them making Caius smirk.

"You might be my favorite human," he told me and I smiled at him.
"Why thank you and I will probably forgive them eventually but I will give them hell first," I tell them with a smirk and they nod at me.

"Until next time your highnesses," I told them with a bow. They smile at me as I wink at Jane leaving the room.

Walking out I smirk at Demetri and head towards the two Cullen and Bella. Soon enough we were back on the plane heading towards Seattle.

"I'm sorry," Alice told me coming to sit beside me. I look towards her confused.

"For not saying goodbye. I should have but I knew that if I did I wouldn't have been able to leave," Alice told me and I smiled sadly at her.

"They miss you, you know," Alice told me and I looked down at that shaking my head.

"Alice don't," I told her making her sigh.
"Ana," she says sadly and I sigh turning to her with tears in my eyes.

"I don't care Alice. If they truly loved me they would have fought for me as I fought for them, but no they left and didn't even try to maybe even do long distance. So don't," I told her making her look down nodding. I then slept for the rest of the plane ride.
