XXXIII

"what?"

"Yeah.. she disappeared around November and was never seen!"

"I don't totally get you.."
Sasha was utterly confused.

"Alright.. you see we went to the same school and college. Back then, I was dating her.. and not just dating her, we were head over heels in love.
But one day.. over a petty issue we fought. Really hard. And did not talk for days.. then I realised that I was wrong and when I tried to reach out for her.. she was gone. I never saw her again."

"Oh my god!"

"Yeah.. but that's okay right now we have to find her out. And also all these confusing letters!"

"Okay.. read the next one."

"Pup..
I tried.. I tried hard enough.
I can't do it. I am sorry. I let you down. You've gone through so much just for me and I do this to you.
I need you to know that I am really, really sorry. It's so.. damn hard. There is not a single moment that I can get this thing out of my mind. I tried to sound fine in the last letter.. but I am not. And you can't help it. No matter how much you try. And I know you are gonna be sorry for that... But I can't help either.

I've had enough of this. And I will not take more. Sorry.
I wish you everything that I always wanted to give you. I have always wanted you to have. You've always been there for me and this is the last regret of my life that I couldn't reciprocate!

Yours..
Reva!"

"God! This is depressing!"
Sasha almost had tears.

"I know...
We have to find out about her."

"But.. it's pretty clear she might have just..

"Don't say that. She is alright okay? You get that?! Now you help me find her."

"Alright but where do we start?"

"We'll check if the address is written somewhere."

"Nope. Not written."
Karthik said after a while.

"These are letters right."

"I can see that!"

"So there must be some record with the post office."

"But there is no stamp on these letters."

"But we can atleast try. That's the only lead we can get here. And if not we'll search here.. only more rigorously.
Um.. we have the date right?"

"Yeah!"

"And the address."

"Well than let's go."

After an hour, they were sitting on the creaky wooden bench inside the elderly, well experienced post office building which had seen almost all the two wars, waiting to see the head officer.

"Mr. Ravat, you can see him. In there."
The person pointed towards a room.

They went in.

"Hello Mr. Sashwat. Nice to meet you."
Karthik said in a polite tone.

"So.. you disturbed me for the feeling of nice, Mr?"
The officer spat without looking up.

"S.. sorry sir. We are here to see some old records . It's related to a high profile case."

"I am afraid I won't be of any help to you. You see.. I might cost me my job and I am not paying such a huge cost for the amateur 'detectives' investigating about the case of some rich bastard!"
He said finally raising his head.

"Excuse me!"
Sasha almost screamed.

"Shhh.. Sasha... Keep calm."

"You'd better keep that voice down miss. I can do more than talk if you must realise."
And he buried his vision back into the load of paper lying on his desk.

Karthik deliberately drew something out of his pocket and placed it on the desk.

He cleared his throat.

The officer looked up and threw a glance at the badge lying on his desk.

He looked at it and stood up with a start.

"I... Umm.. I am sorry sir. I did not know!"

Sasha was in complete shock.

"What the heck did you show him?"

Karthik flashed his badge to her.

"Ohh fuck!"
She blurted.
