Chapter 24
*Kimberly Martin's POV:*
"What?", I asked, praying I didn't hear him correctly and hoping he was saying something totally different. "What do you mean?"
Alex raised his arms. "This! This was all part of the plan. Getting you here was all part of the plan. Though, I would say, it was sooner than I expected. I was expecting to have the Officers take you as soon as you touch down with Trevor, Danny and Shimizu."
"Wait! You already knew we were planning to leave with Shimizu?!" Celosia asked angrily. "How?"
"I saw you all running into the janitor's closet to talk but you didn't see me. I put my head to the door and listened to everything from the outside. A few hours later, I teleported to the World Leader's Headquarters and told him everything."
My brain was all over the place. So many things happened in that span of time, but many things also didn't make sense and now the person we tried to trust had betrayed us. The person I was actually starting to like in someway turned against us. I couldn't believe it. How could we have been so stupid? I was so suspicious of Ashley and Sargent Thomas when it should've been him!
"You monster!", Gaia growled at him. "Once Shimizu hears about this he wil-"
"Do what?", Alex crossing his arms. "Throw water at me? Every single plan he has discussed I heard about! Why do you think they all fail? Huh? Because I warn the World Leader before hand! I had no choice!"
"How long?", Celosia asked sternly.
"How long what?", Alex asked.
"How long have you been his bitch?!", she yelled. The teenage Celosia was coming out and quickly.
"I wouldn't say I am his "bitch". But I have been discussing Shimizu's plans with the world leader for over a year now. Especially the recent plan of Shimizu coming here to rescue your poor folks. But it wasn't always like this though. At first I was on Shimizu's side."
Alex's voice was so monotone. I just couldn't tell if he was regretful or not. He just stood there, explaining. No smile or frown on his face.
"So what happened?!", I asked, trying to understand why. I was so heartbroken. I really didn't want to speak nor hear what he had to say, but I just had to know.
"I hired my team to kidnap him", I heard a deep voice speak for him, it was loud and clear, and yet intimidating.
We turned towards the shelter's main door. As there were still people being taken up the steps into the outside world, coming down was no other than the World Leader himself: John Victran.
How we recognized him? Shimizu showed us CNN new clips and videos of him waving to crowds with a fake smile, making speeches, and playing golf like shit was sweet.
My eyes doubled in size as we saw him....the man who made all of this possible. The man who is the cause of "world peace", and will be the cause of "world chaos" soon, according to Danny.
"You see, I forced him on my side. I have spies in the Philippines. As you know, the Philippines sided with the experimented and removed themselves from the One World Government. How selfish and unfortunate of them. So, a year ago, the spies I had found Alex teleporting from one area to the next, not having any care that someone may have been watching. It was a give-a-way that he was one of you."
As the World Leader explained. I glanced at Alex. His head was down. He didn't make any eye contact with us. I could tell he felt ashamed, and yet I didn't feel an ounce of sorry for him. It was like that Mina situation but this time I was in Beval's place and I felt Beval's pain.
"When no one was around and he wasn't looking, he was injected with a temporary substance to take away his powers, then he was forced into the van. Five officers surrounded him and drove to a isolated part of the Philippines were nobody was around."
"I was scared. They parked the car and they FaceTimed Mr. John on an iPad and had him talk to me. I was frighten I was going to die. I thought they was going to kill me. He told me he had spies everywhere in the Philippines and that he was going to kill me if I didn't tell them if there were more of us. Out of fear, I told him. I told him about Shimizu and where we were staying. He told me that he would spare me if I update him on all of Shimizu's plans and how the shelter is ran. Then, when the time was right, I would turn them in and be rewarded with money, enough to live comfortably for decades", Alex rambled, tears finally coming down his face after putting up a nonchalant face. "I'm sorry. But I didn't want to die. I had no choice."
"So you decided to be a coward and turn everyone in just so you wouldn't die? And now hundreds will be jailed or worse because of you!", Beval faintly scolded him, trying to get full sentences out. He was still in a lot of pain as he dragged himself over to a wall, leaning against it.
"There were already spies in the Philippines anyway! Danger was already there!", Alex yelled, trying to defend his cowardly actions.
"But they didn't know where our shelter was! It was somewhere they wouldn't think to search! Now because of you they are all in danger!", Celosia scolded him.
"Well, they better hurry then, because the World Leader is coming for them next. Sorry guys, but I had to do this. I didn't want my life to end", Alex said softly, not making eye contact."
Before I could say one last thing, I felt a tight, cold sensation wrap around my wrist. It was handcuffs. The officers pulled us up to our feed and began moving us towards the stairs.
"We will remember this", Celosia said to Alex, head down and tears rolling down her cheeks.
Alex said nothing. We saw John Victran give him what looked to be cloth bag. The bag was filled with stacks of money, yet no smile formed on Alex's face.
"I could've had my officers kill you the second you arrived, but luckily, these guns are filled with tranquilizer bullets. I wanted everyone taken...alive", John explained, emotionless.
"So, those people on the floor aren't dead?", Celosia asked, looking at Max, our fellow hunter on the ground, yards away.
"No, they are unconscious and will be taken up soon. I told the officers to use the tranquilizer bullets on my command". John took his glasses off before sighing. "But unfortunately, you killed some of my officers. Brutally took their lives when if shot, your life wouldn't have been taken. Therefore, they will be very soon."
My heart dropped as my stomach tighten in knots. My face grew hot as my knees gave out. My throat couldn't give out as much as a whimper. For the first time in a very long time, I began to cry. The sound that my mortality would soon cease to exist broke me down to my very core.
"No!! Please! No!", Gaia cried out, begging the world leader as the officers dragged us away.
I didn't even tried to fight, nor did anyone else. It was done. It was it for us. We no longer had anymore fight knowing we were going to die. We just didn't know when. All that me, Celosia, Gaia and Beval could do was cry.
As we went up the stairs into the outside world, we saw what looked to be police and FEMA cars coming and going, but many was parked all around the entrance of the shelter. We saw a few ambulances, and a news helicopter shining their light down on us, almost blinding me. To our left was a well known Fox News reporter.
"It's such a shocking scene we have here, hundreds of people, some experimented, hiding in this underground shelter for half a decade. It's clear that they not only hid from the pandemic that killed so many of our own, but the experimental labor camps as well." Then, she proceeded to say the most fucked up, unprofessional comment ever.
"It's unfortunate that there's some that's still alive, I mean, you would think the world would be better because they died off in the camps and from the pandemic. These people have caused so much pain and misery, I mean there's reported to be several dead officers that died in the hands of those four adults now being taken into custody. If you asked me Carl, I would say these experimentals will be the destruction to humanity", she chuckled in her news reporter voice before turning to look at us.
"We are destructive towards humanity! And we didn't ask to have these powers! They are not a curse! They are just a part of who we are! But we are not monsters and we don't deserve to be shunned and discriminated against! A few bad apples do not represent all of us. We are people just like you and-"
The sleeve of a shirt was tied around Gaia's mouth by a FEMA officer, to keep her quiet. The news reporter awkwardly turned back to the camera but before she spoke, Celosia spoke.
"People don't fall into the medias narrative! John Victran will cause the world into war! Don't trust him! The United States and the UN painted the narrative that the experimentals were bad people so they had a reason for population control, the pandemic was ma-"
Before she could finish, they threw us into the van one by one. They slamming the door shut with a loud thud. It was nighttime so it was dark inside and we could barely see anything.
"Guys?!", we heard a girl whimper. I recognized that voice.
"Katie?!" Gaia stared out into the darkness towards the glass boulder of the van. She was crouched down near it, but we quickly saw someone else move with her.
It was Isabella!
Neither was handcuffed.
"Oh my god! Oh my god!", Isabella shouted happy to see us.
"Isabella", Beval whimpered as loud as he could, but he was still injured from his rough beating. Isabella and Katie slid over towards us, hugging us tightly.
"Oh my god, you're back! Thank god!", Katie cried in happiness, considering the situation we were in.
Isabella let us go and focused on Beval, she couldn't see much of the injuries in the dark but she just knew.
"Oh my baby brother. What did they do to you?", she cried in sorrow as she held him tightly, her large baby-bump pressing against his chest. "Mom and Dad are already taken into a van that left a while ago. I hope we are taken to the same place."
"Where's Hikari and Tyler? And Shimizu?", Katie asked with concern.
"Shimizu is alive. We were with him for weeks. And Hikari and Tyler are safe in the Philippines. They are in his shelter with many other experi-babies", Celosia said, wiping her tears. "They are safe for now, the World Leader will soon attack their shelter...but us....all four of us have been sentenced to death."
"No...NO!!" Isabella screamed out, holding her brother Beval, whom is still semi-conscious. She began to cry.
Moments later she shrieked, holding onto her stomach.
"Isabella?!", Gaia and Celosia screamed out. Katie moved her to the other side of the van, comforting her.
"It won't be long until she goes into labor. But right now she's having contractions", Katie announced urgently.
"Where's Danny?", Isabella exhaled in exhaustion.
"He is still in the Philippines, with Shimizu", Beval said, defeated . "It's over."
"I don't want to have my baby without Danny! And now my brother and his friends will die!" Isabella wailed as Katie began to hug her.
"Isabella please breathe, don't bring stress on the baby. Everything will be okay", Katie comforted.
We sat there, handcuffed and helpless, watching as Isabella cried.
Looking back on what the news reporter said and the diss she made, I noticed Gaia and Celosia showed a lot of courage speaking up, and gave a voice to the experi-babies out there. I had to thank them for that.
"I'm proud of you two", I announced, looking at Gaia and Celosia with a faint smile. "Gaia girl, what you said to that news reporter was brave. Let the world know how we experi-babies feel. Let them know we will not stand for discrimination any longer." I turned to look at Celosia. "You warned the world about John Victran and maybe they will believe it, maybe they won't, but to put it in their minds as a possibly and a hot topic will be better than not saying anything at all. You guys are amazing".
Gaia laid her head on my shoulder and Celosia laid her's on my other one.
"Kimberly, you're amazing", Gaia said in response. "For our last moments on this earth, let's be best friends and not frenemies."
Her response caused a lump in my throat as I jerked, wailing quietly as I laid my head against the wall. Tears streamed down my face like a river, dripping two drops per second.
"I would like that, very much", I smiled, eyes bloodshot red.
It wasn't long before more five more people from the shelter was placed into the van as well. After shoving them in, the officers entering the vehicle not saying a word, they turned on the engine and began driving away from the shelter, then, from the forest, and then, into the highway.
Me, Gaia, Beval and Celosia were destined to die with no hope of getting out of this situation. No hope of telling Shimizu. No hope of saving both shelters and no hope of saving the world from the world leader himself. Our powers were gone. And soon, so will we be.
