Chapter 22
*Beval Hernandez's POV:
We stepped out of the elevator, tightly holding hands. Wind that smelled of old metal and gasoline blew in our faces.
As expected, it was a hangar. Two jets were at the center of the hangar. About a hundred or so technicians were repairing and updating the parts of both planes.
"They look busy", Gaia said with hesitation, wanting to go back upstairs.
"Let's go", I said, grabbing her hand as we walked towards them.
"Hey! You can't be down here!", a man yelled as he stopped what he was doing, storming over towards us. The others stopped what they were doing and looked over at us.
"Hey, we don't want any trouble. We are just looking for Trevor," I calmly explained as I placed my hands up.
"You found him," a male voice interrupted. Our eyes gazed behind the man as another walked up behind him. It was Trevor. "What's up kids?"
A smile formed, taking away the attention from his salt and pepper colored beard. It was good to see him and talk to him after so long. But this conversation wasn't going to be so positive.
"We have something to discuss with you, urgently", Gaia spoke up, tilting her head towards an area away from the technicians.
"Give me a minute", Trevor told the technician who approached us, giving him a pat on the shoulder. He nodded before leaving Trevor to follow us.
We walked over to a corner of the room. I deeply exhaled before speaking, clasping my hands together.
"We have to go back to Northern California."
"What?! Why?!", he responded in a shout-whisper.
"Danny had a vision. The FEMA officers will be attacking our home shelter soon. Lord knows what they will do to our family, friends and the people of the shelter. We can't leave them there. You are our only hope on getting us back", Gaia explained, grabbing his arms in desperation.
Trevor sighed before rubbing his face in distress, clearly hesitating.
"This is risky. Too risky," He groaned.
"Noah is in there too", I said.
Trevor's gazed widened, in a mild panic. Holding his composer, he exhaled.
"Okay. How long do we have?", He asked.
"Our goal is to leave tonight", I responded.
"Why didn't you tell Alex? He could've transported you there and even transported the people back here to escape."
"Shimizu and Danny's orders were to not tell a single soul....but trust me, I agree. Getting Alex's help would be beneficial", I explained.
"Do you trust Alex?"
I had to think about that question. I don't know him that well even though we share a suite. He seems like a pretty cool dude. He flirts with Kimberly a lot so that gets her out of my face. I never got any red flags from him or any suspicious activity.
The more I thought about Shimizu and Danny's plan, the more I realized it didn't make any sense. Why take a ten hour plane ride when we could use Alex to teleport us to Northern Cali in a split second. We have to take that chance to trust him. Secondly, the plan was made within a day. Usually Shimizu plans his missions weeks ahead, even months, therefore it didn't have much thinking that went into this. My gut went against it.
"Honestly, I don't know. Maybe we should ask for Alex's help. It would be more efficient for him to take us there."
"Beval?!", Gaia gasped in disbelief that I would go against my best friend.
"Think about it Gigi. Would it be better for Alex to teleport us to our home shelter in a split second, gather everyone up then take us back home? Or take a ten hour plane ride to get to the shelter, warn the people in the shelter, but realize there's hundreds so they can't all fit on the plane. What will we do then?", I asked her, trying to prove a point as I held her hands.
She batted her lashes, looking downward at the ground. It was clear, she knew I was right.
"You have a point. But you know Shimizu and Danny will be mad at you for this", she replied.
"I know. Plus, I'm used to bickering with Danny. Just know they will get over it when the people of the shelter, including our families and friends are saved", I chuckled before kissing her forehead.
"I guess you guys don't need me anymore", Trevor smiled as he awkwardly moved away.
"Actually, we would like your support", I replied. "The more people that have our backs, the better."
He turned back at us, smiling. He crossed his arms and shook his head.
"I never saw you as the one to take charge. I'm proud of you kiddo. With that attitude you might become Shimizu's second in command. I'm in. If you need me, I'll be there to help you".
"Thanks man", I smiled, giving Trevor a big hug.
"I know this is scary for you. But as long as you get there before they do, everything will be fine", he comforted.
"What if there's not enough room for everyone?", Gaia asked, a bit worried.
"You will figure that out when you bring them back here. For right now, focus on that. We'll take care of the rest. They are safe in this country. The Philippines is secretly pro experi-baby. The ones who weren't killed and escaped during the extermination are the ones hiding in this shelter, and the Philippines are funding this place", Trevor responded, patting my shoulder.
"Seriously? I never knew. I was never told that", I said wide eyed as I and Gaia looked at each other in shock.
The ride back up the elevator was quiet. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous. Not because I was going back to the shelter and had to deal with Mr. Hada and his nonsense, but because I was going against Shimizu. This could cost me his trust towards me and I wouldn't blame him one bit. But if we are going to do this, we had to do it right.
Going back up, the elevator doors opened. There, we saw I saw Danny, Celosia, Kim and even Shimizu was there waiting.
"You're back! What did he say?", Shimizu asked in urgency. "Is he willing to take us?"
"He...um, well he said that he would th-"
"He said yes", Gaia interrupted my nervous stutter. "Tonight he will get the plane ready for us".
"Good! Good! Okay. Pack food, water and warm clothes. This will be a long trip", Danny exclaimed in happiness. "Shimizu, let's go over our plan for when we arrive there."
"Actually, I was just about to ask about that", Shimizu said, following Danny, away from the others.
I lowered my head and blew my breath in relief, suddenly, Kimberly's nosy ass pushed my head up.
"You're lying aren't you?", she asked, placing her hands on her hips.
"Yes", I said, clenching my teeth together.
"What?", Celosia said in disbelief. "What did he say?"
"He was hesitant, then asked why don't we have Alex help us. We told him that Shimizu and Danny said not to tell anyone else but then he asked us if we trusted Alex. That was what got us thinking. He never gave us a reason to not trust him".
"Yea and so did Mina, but you saw what happened", Celosia called out.
"Did you seriously have to bring that heffa up?!", Gaia asked her, visibly offended.
"Yes, because we can't risk it happening again. This is too risky."
"We are already risking not getting there in time by taking a fucking ten hour plane ride back to Northern California", I scowled at Celosia. "There is a risk either way."
"But we trust Trevor, we don't know Alex like that to trust him to teleport us back to our shelter. You are trying to go against Shimizu", Celosia argued with me. She was afraid and I get it. But common sense still had to be used in this scenario.
I took a deep breath.
"I'm not trying to go against him, I am being smart. Just think about this for a second Celosia. How on earth can hundreds of people from our shelter fit into this plane? We don't have the time to be doing round trips. Just think", I calmly explained.
"I don't know about this. This doesn't feel right. Shimizu and Danny would hate us for this. I already have half the shelter looking at me funny. I can't afford to be on Shimizu and Danny's bad side", Celosia said in a unconfident tone, hugging her arms and backing away.
Finally, Kimberly spoke up after just standing there, listening with her arms crossed.
"Look, I understand Shimizu is our friend and I care about him just as much as you do Celo. But at the end of the day, let's be fucking for real. Beval and Gaia are making a lot of sense. It's quick if we have Alex help us. I'm not saying this because of how I SOMEWHAT feel towards him, but because it's less effort and energy on our side."
Looking at Celosia and her expressions, I could tell she was starting to agree with us, especially since Kimberly jumped in.
"I know this is scary. But it will be quick. Alex will take us there, we will warn everyone to get their things, then he teleports all of us back here. After that, we are done. Shimizu's plan isn't as thought out as it should be", Kimberly finished.
Celosia nodded and blew her breath, looking at me and Gaia. She stood confidently and said...
"Fine. We will have Alex help us. I recommend telling him as soon as possible to save time."
