Chapter 21
*Gaia King's POV:
"We need to see what's up, follow me", I said, getting up from my seat. I grabbed Celosia's hand as we made our way through the door.
"Damn, I guess I wasn't the only person drunk last night," Kimberly joked as she got up from her seat and followed.
"Kim, this may be serious", I said in annoyance as she followed us out the door.
Alex stayed behind with Ashley and Sargent Thompson. Hikari wanted to go but Tyler convince her to wait there.
"What?! What the fuck are you saying?!", I heard Beval shout from down the hallway. Danny shushed him and guided both Shimizu and Beval to a room with cleaning supplies. A janitorial closet.
"Hey! Wait!" I shouted, trying to catch up with them. They looked our way before Danny guided us into the janitorial closet. It was a bit small but all of us could fit in. It smelled of mildew with a mixture of bleach.
"It's the Vodka isn't it?", Kimberly joked before Celosia elbowed her.
"Listen. I had a vision while we were inside the office. If you saw me zoning out that's why. I already revealed this to Shimizu and Beval, but in two days, our home shelter will be raided by the F.E.M.A officers. I don't know how, or who told, but somehow they know where it is. We have to head back to California! Now!"
I stood there, frozen. I didn't know what to do or what to say. My parents and my older brother Thomas was still there. Isabella was still there and will be due soon. Beval and Robin's parents. Noah! Katie! Shimizu's dad! Hikari's friends! They are still there and struggling just to get by while we promised to find Shimizu and come straight back. Yet, we stayed a couple weeks, lallygagging and getting involved in things that we shouldn't have. Had we just have Shimizu come back with us, we may've all been brought to this shelter where there's more room, food, activities and we didn't have to worry about the corrupted mess of the U.S.
"Oh my god! What?!" How did this happen?!", Kimberly shouted. We all shushed her.
"Don't be so loud. We don't know who may be listening. All we know is that there's a betrayer among us."
"How do we know who that is? I want to go back home! My parents are still down there!", Celosia pleased asked on the verge on tears. Shimizu wrapped his arms her, worry in his eyes as well.
I held on to Beval's hand as we both tried to keep it together and not panic.
"Listen and listen to me carefully. We raided a experimental concentration camp, we crossed the ocean to find Vulcan Island-"
"Danny, please don't start", Beval pleaded in annoyance.
"JUST...listen", Danny raised his voice. "We have done things people can only imagine. You were all 14 and 15 years old at the time when we defeated W.E.A. Yes, our missions caused the death of both Kamryn and Mohammed, bless their souls. But now, you are all 20 and 21. Grown adults capable of keeping it together, but, I'm not going to be the only one planning anymore. Shimizu will help me."
Shimizu looked a bit suprised when Danny said those words.
"I may have the strategy, but you have the military experience. That's needed in this case. We ALL need to keep our heads and plan efficiently. But first we need to relax and take some deep breaths. We have a couple hours to plan our way back to Northern Cali and get everyone out of the shelter and away. It must be quick, but sane and quiet."
"You're right", Shimizu agreed with a head nod.
"Okay. Should we tell anyone?", Celosia asked.
"No. We shouldn't.We shouldn't tell anyone outside of this group about this plan...but Trevor. I will hire Trevor to take us back to Northern Cali by plane. The fastest plane we have", Shimizu responded.
"But Alex has teleportation powers, he can-"
"No one else will know about what is going on", Danny interrupted Kimberly in a condescending way.
"Sure, but you don't have to talk to us like we are still kids", she huffed, crossing her arms.
"Listen, once we get to the shelter, we will have everyone evacuate then leave the area. We can't take everyone on the plane but we can make sure they are far away from the shelter as much as possible", Shimizu explained .
"Once we leave this janitor closet, act normal as if I just felt nauseous from a night of drinking and needed assistance. That's all. Don't tell anyone but Trevor what is going on. Am I clear?", Danny asked with authority in his voice.
We all nodded.
"Good. This shelter shuts down at ten o clock. We meet at eleven o clock tonight," Danny finished before sighing and pinching his nose bridge. "Listen, I understand your fear. Isabella, the love of my life and our unborn child are in that shelter too and I'll be damned if anything happened to them. So trust me, I get your fear, but we cannot go into this with panicked brains. Meet me at the entrance tonight at eleven. And don't look suspicious or go in a group. Trust me."
We left the janitorial closet and went back into the office where Alex, Hikari and Tyler and Ashley and Sargent were waiting.
"Is everything alright??" Ashley asked as she rose from her seat to check on Danny, whom was putting on an act of feeling nauseous.
"Yeah, he didn't feel well. Drunk too much last night. I guess the hangover got to him", Shimizu shrugged off. He turned to look at us. "Hey, can you guys make sure Danny gets to his suite safety?"
"Yea sure", I responded as me and the others lead him away from the office door, down the hall and into the main area. We walked down towards a bench and sat him there.
"I need one of you to go and find Trevor now. The earlier we tell him, the better", Danny spoke in a normal tone.
Me, Beval, Kimberly and Celosia looked at each other, wondering who should do it.
I haven't really pulled my weight as much as I should've, so I volunteered.
"I'll go and find Trevor", I said out loud. "Do you have any idea where he is?"
"If he isn't testing planes in the basement with other engineers, he is in his room. Check both", Danny said as Kimberly and Celosia sat by him.
"I'll go with you", Beval insisted.
"No, I'm fine. I can go alone" I protested while walking away.
As I expected, Beval kept following me, placing his hands in his pockets. I turned around to give him a annoyed look.
"You don't seriously think I'm letting you go down there by yourself? You must've forgotten who I am", Beval chuckled sarcastically before making his way.
"Fine", I sighed before following him.
Currently, we were in the main area, or the place where people come to relax and kick it with friends. There was a fountain, multiple chandeliers, benches and children playing around. It was like an indoor park.
The main area was like a circle, within that circle was the gym room, the garden room, the pharmacy, the office for the leaders of this shelter, the library, cafeteria, laundry room and the "park", which was where we were. The entrance/exit to the shelter was here as well.
And surrounding the circle was different pathways. The pathways were suites for the people to sleep in. One pathway let the suites 0-99, the other to suites 100-199, 200-299, etc. But in the main area, there was also one elevator. One elevator in the entire shelter that we know of.
Following Beval, we brisk walked towards the elevator at the far end of the main area. He pressed the bottom button which lit up a small yellow light.
A ding shortly after was heard before the elevator opened. Walking into it there were only two options: "G" or "Basement".
Beval pressed the basement option before the door slowly closed.
"I swear it's always one thing after another", Beval sighed as he shook his head.
"Once we save those in our home shelter, it will all be over", I reassured as I hugged him.
"We still have to get rid of the world leader. So it won't be over until that's completed", he replied, hugging back.
"True, but we have help so we won't take the burden all by ourselves", I said with a nervous smile, looking up at him. Beval leaned in to kiss me. It was as if all my fear went away, I kissed back, grabbing onto him.
"You're scared. I can see it", he responded. "Look, as long as we plan efficiently and get there in time, we can safe everyone. We can prevent this, all we have to do is try."
Even though Beval's words lifted me out of my fear in more ways than I could thank him for, I could still see the pain and fear in my boyfriend's face. We had no idea what the government was planning to do with our friends, family and people in our shelter. We didn't know if they would do a mass murder, jail them or put them in extermination camps. To this day, it still boggles my mind how the government could wipe out almost entire population for being different and nobody batted an eye. It was acceptable to them. Even before all of this, when life was "normal"....it wasn't. It was still a living hell for all of us to just live and exist in this world. A world where people thought you were a freak, up to no good, and a monster, a world where you could also be kidnapped by obsessed people who were fascinated by the experimented and would do unthinkable things to them in their basement. Thank god it never happened to us, but there were a few cases in the US of that happening.
If you were an experi-baby in this world, you were pretty much destined for oppression. This truly was an elemental curse me, Shimizu, Beval and Celosia had. For the rest, it was an experimental curse.
I wanted to live a normal life, I wanted this to end. I wanted to be at peace and enjoy my powers without the ridicule, judgment or funny looks. But I wasn't so sure if I would get that kind of acceptance anytime in my life time.
Tears streamed down my face as I grabbed Beval's hand. He clenched mine just as tightly as the elevator doors opened.
