Fireworks

Colorful fireworks illuminate the night, outshining the stars in the sky. White, yellow and green peony. Purple and blue chrysanthemum. Orange and white brocade. The pyrotechnics explode and create pretty lights in different sizes and shapes.

Eujae looks at the person sitting beside him on the bench and can't help but grin as the sight of his radiant boyfriend, who's engrossed in the fireworks display, welcomes his gaze. He is glad he listened to his mother's advice to bring Apollo to this park.

Earlier, they learned from his parents that this town is having a festival to commemorate their local patron. This park is a bit far from the main venue of the celebration, but the college couple still have a good view of the pyrotechnic show. On top of that, they can have more privacy here because most people would stay in the town's plaza to wait and watch the other festival events. So far, Eujae has only seen one group of friends and another pair of couple who passed by their location.

He rakes the area with his eyes and learns that the friend group has settled in the metallic cabin swing a few meters away from them, laughing with each other and minding their own business. On the other hand, he can no longer find the other couple, so they are practically the only ones hanging out in the place.

A lighthearted gasp makes Eujae return his attention to his boyfriend. Poll still has his stare focused on the sky, fascination painting his expression, while he's holding a small paper tray of takoyaki with both hands.

The taller man quietly snickers in amusement as he thinks of how adorable his lover appears at the moment. There are only a few things that can temporarily distract Apollo Helios Torres from his food, and when it happens, it only means that he is doing something that he genuinely enjoys.

"Oh, it's twin hearts! I've never seen fireworks with that shape." Poll shifts his gaze to Eujae while the latter is busy admiring him. Whether it's the colorful lights shining upon his face or his bright smile, but the male twin seems as if he's gleaming. "Did you see it? It's so beautiful. I'm glad we came here, Eujae."

"Right," Eujae answers dreamily without bothering to take his gaze off his boyfriend, "Definitely the most beautiful."

The male twin blinks, his excited expression fading away. He gives Eujae a confused stare before a thoughtful frown settles on his face. "But you're not really watching. You don't like fireworks?"

"I was watching earlier, and I liked them. I do. And I agree the fireworks look sort of magical." Eujae brushes the short fringe near Poll's eye and starts playing with it in between his fingers. "It's just that I thought there's nothing more mesmerizing than this view I'm currently looking at."

Before Poll can say something, his taller boyfriend is quicker to shut him up with a kiss—brief but full on the mouth.

Eujae leans away with a sigh. With a longing stare, he slides his hand down on Poll's cheek and traces his thumb against the male twin's lower lip. He badly craves to lick and bite it right now, but he encourages himself to be a bit more patient and not to get carried away since they are still in a public area, even if there's basically no people around them.

The bright full moon behind the smaller man catches Eujae's sight, reminding him of the night he first confessed his feelings to Poll. He smiles softly as an idea occurs to him.

"Also, the moon is beautiful tonight, isn't it, Apollo?" Eujae says, his voice barely above a whisper. He then places another chaste kiss on his lover's forehead.

Once he draws back, he observes Poll's bright brown eyes become rounder as comprehension dances across them. Eujae remembers how this man had reacted when he had told him the words before, how Poll had been so confused then, and how he had been so skeptical about accepting the truth that Eujae had meant to say the statement in its romantic context.

But this night, even when Apollo turns his head away and glowers down at the small tray of street food in his hands, the lovely blush on his cheeks cues in Eujae that he has gotten the message across.

"You never really run out of cheesy things to say. But, okay, I also think the moon is really beautiful," Poll says, mumbling the last part without so much as a glance at the said moon, before he chomps on a whole piece of takoyaki. The faint smile tugging on the corner of his mouth doesn't escape Eujae either. "You should help me with this, okay? Although I can finish it by myself, but I feel bad that I'm the only one eating again."

Just as Eujae is about to tease his boyfriend and suggest that he should feed him, the male twin beats him with a surprise when he stabs a piece of takoyaki with the wooden pick.

Poll holds out the food near his taller lover's mouth. "Here, try it," he says with an expectant stare.

The fluttery sensation grows inside Eujae's chest. Grinning, he eats the takoyaki that Poll is offering. He hums in approval when he notices his lover waiting for his reaction. "It's good."

"Right?" The male twin beams in satisfaction before he returns his attention to the food.

"Here, baby, let me do it for you too," Eujae says, taking the extra pick. He doesn't give Poll the chance to protest when he pokes another piece of takoyaki and brings it in front of the male twin's lips.

Poll tentatively leans his head forward. Eujae smirks as a plan forges in his head.

The male twin is just about to take the food in his mouth when his boyfriend suddenly draws his hand back, causing the former to follow on reflex. A look of surprise crosses Poll's features as his face comes near the taller man's chest.

Eujae takes advantage of the situation by winding his left arm around Poll's back and kisses the top of his head.

"Ehhh?" Poll peers up at Eujae and juts his lips, obviously not satisfied with being tricked. Even when Eujae places the takoyaki back in his mouth, he keeps glowering at his taller boyfriend while chewing. Yet, he doesn't bother to disentangle himself from the half-embrace.

"Why is my Small Angry Bean being so cute again?" In between soft laughter, Eujae pecks Poll's nose.

The male twin pouts even harder. He pulls away from Eujae's arms and huffs, "I've been telling you I'm not a small angry bean."

"What is it then? My cute little tomato?"

"No!" Poll pauses, the unamused frown on his face turning contemplative, as if he just remembers something important. Gradually, his pout changes to a wide smile. Twinkle takes over his brown eyes. "Even though you're the Little Chick!"

Poll looks back down at the paper plate in his hands and resumes eating the takoyaki with a satisfied expression, like he has just received a giant chocolate cake from winning an art contest. After finishing at least two pieces of the street food, a giggle breaks free from his mouth. "Little Chick," he repeats to himself, his hoarse voice quivering with mirth.

Amused, Eujae lets Poll revel in his small victory for a few more seconds longer. If his cute little lover thinks that he can outwit him in this baiting game, then Apollo Torres still has a lot to learn about his boyfriend's real teasing capability.

The taller man ruffles his lover's hair affectionately, making Poll turn back at him.

"What is it, Little Chick?" the male twin asks, still with a pleased smile.

Raising a brow, Eujae wonders, "You enjoy saying that nickname, huh?"

"Yep, 'cause you're the little one here, Little Chick."

"Say that again? I'm the little one?"

"You're the little one," Poll obliges and stuck out his tongue at his boyfriend.

A devious smile forms on Eujae's lips as he decides it's time to take back the upper hand from his lover. He scoots closer to Poll, reaches for the male twin's hand, and entwines their fingers. When the other lad throws him a curious stare, he only answers by softly kissing his smaller boyfriend's knuckles.

Eujae lets go of Poll's hand, just to drape his arm over the male twin's shoulder. He then leans in, his mouth stopping close to Poll's ear.

"Apollo," he whispers, satisfaction rushing through him as he notices how his boyfriend shivers, "You, of all people, should know that I am nowhere near little. Or do you need me to prove it to you over and over? Should I remind you in the hotel tonight and make sure you won't forget again?"

Poll's hands tighten on the edge of the paper tray. Face flushed, he jerks his head in his boyfriend's direction. "Tha-that's not... I'm also..." He gapes. Closes and opens his mouth, and closes again before he gives up on opposing his lover's words. "You're annoying, Eujae!"

Maintaining his sly grin, Eujae gives another kiss to his adorable lover's cheek. "I love you too, baby."

AN: Updates for this book will be on hold for a while because I'm gonna focus on my new novel. But, of course, I'll always come back here because writing about my best boi Eujae and baby Apollo is like a place of comfort for me. :)
