Chapter 48- Past
With the half term break approaching, the group worked harder than ever to put the show together.
It was Tuesday, and Eli was almost always the earliest on Tuesdays. But the rehearsal had been going for an hour and not even Weronika had turned up later than an hour.
"I called Eli but he's not picking up", said Camryn, a worried expression on her face.
"I can go to his house?", suggested Isaac, concerned for his new friend.
Miss Laine was about to answer when Camryn's phone vibrated, followed by Isaac's a few seconds later.
They both read out their messages.
Eli: Sorry, can't make today. U don't have to wait 4 me.
When Darius looked, he gasped. "That's not Eli. He's not using proper words. Something's happened to him."
Amethyst rolled her eyes. "Maybe he's just in a rush?"
"I can try calling him again?", asked Camryn.
Miss Laine shook her head. "No, there's no point. Let's just wrap things up."
"Wait, why?", asked Weronika.
"Oh yes, sorry... you weren't here for the announcement. There's a meeting and every teacher is needed. We'll be using this room", explained Miss Laine. "But maybe you could ask Isaac to go through the tap choreo with you, seeing as you missed it?"
"Uh... I can't. Family stuff. Maybe next time", said Weronika.
Isaac frowned and looked at Meredith, who gave him a comforting smile.
Camryn tapped his shoulder. "My brother's got some friends over so he said I could stay at a friend's house. Do you want to hang out together?"
"I'd really like that!", exclaimed Isaac, before frowning. "But, I can't. Esther and I are going to watch a movie together."
Camryn frowned, deflated. "Oh... ok. Well, I'll see you tomorrow then."
"Maybe Leonie's free? I can tell you where she lives if you want to go see her?", suggested Isaac.
Camryn was still surprised that she hadn't been to Leonie's house yet. Then again, she didn't go to many of her friend's houses. Eli's being an exception. Even then she didn't stay for long. "Uh, yeah. Thanks."

Kennedy and Maxon were at the park, for a 'Romeo and Juliet in the Park' event. Maxon had arranged it as a date, seeing as they both love Theatre.
They sat close together, with Kennedy shyly placing a hand on Maxon's leg. He placed his hand on top of hers, giving her a warm smile.
When the actor playing Romeo approached them, he held out a rose for Kennedy. "Such beauty must be rewarded."
Maxon took the rose. "Thank you, kind Sir. I'd love to give this to my date."
The actor's smile only got brighter. Perhaps he didn't just love Theatre, but loved young love too. His smile seemed to say that.
Kennedy blushed and took the rose from Maxon. "Thank you", she said, before kissing his cheek.
Some of the cast smiled at them, whilst others gave knowing winks.
Kennedy giggled and rested her head against Maxon's shoulder. "Thanks for bringing me here."
"No problem", said Maxon. "I love spending time with you."

Camryn approached Leonie's door, hoping to talk to talk to her Leonie's Mum. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Leonie. "Oh! I-I thought you were in a rehab centre?"
"They're treating me as an outpatient. I only have to go in a few times, seeing as I healed relatively quickly", explained Leonie.
"Oh... that's good. Um, if you're up for it, do you want to hang out now?", asked Camryn, feeling a little more confident after seeing Leonie.
Leonie looked down, her hair covering her face. "Maybe another time."
"Oh. Is... is everything ok?", asked Camryn, slightly taken aback.
Leonie looked up at her. "Y-Yeah. Everything's fine."
Camryn wasn't convinced. "Because you know if it's not th-"
"- I'm fine, Camryn", said Leonie. "Just tired."
Camryn frowned but nodded. "I-I get it. Well... I'll let you get some rest now."
She looked up at Leonie, hoping to get any indication about how she was really feeling. Leonie wasn't the same. It was understandable, given what she's been through.
But she just wanted the old Leonie back.
"Bye, Camryn", said Leonie, before closing the door.
Camryn couldn't be sure but she thought she saw tears in Leonie's eyes.
-
Esther and Isaac walked to the Cinema, excited to see the movie together. "So... how are things with you and Nico?"
Esther squinted at Isaac. "Fine... why?"
"No reason!", said Isaac, a small smirk appearing on his face. "No reason at all."
"You're a bit of a weirdo, Tapper", joked Esther. "Why did Nico say something about me?"
Isaac grinned. "Why would you care about that?"
Esther blushed and looked down. She shrugged. "I-I don't. J-Just making conversation."
Isaac raised his eyebrow. "Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't do that. Don't want you to feel left out. Unless you want Nico to show you how to do it?", he teased.
Esther shoved a grinning Isaac. "Oi, stop it. Don't know where you're getting your ideas from but I don't like Nico like that."
Isaac smirked, looking ahead.
Esther furrowed her eyebrows. "What?"
"I never said anything about you liking him."
-
Camryn walked through a park, thinking over everything that has happened between Leonie and her.
"Ah, is that little Cami?", questioned a hench man. He had several symbols and words tattooed all over his body.
Camryn tensed up as she heard his voice. She got shivers as she looked at his face. "Er-Ernesto?"
The man smiled. "You remember me! Good. What's a little girl like you doing all alone?"
"I'm not little anymore, Ernesto", said Camryn.
He chuckled. "True, true. Is your brother around? I have a job for him."
Camryn clenched her fists. "He doesn't do that stuff anymore."
He chuckled again. "Come on, Cami. He's just like his Dad. He'll always deal."
Camryn shook her head. "He's not into that stuff anymore. He's sorted his life out."
Ernesto stared at Camryn, studying her facial expression. "You've got a fire in you, Cami. Just like your brother. And like your Dad."
"I'm nothing like that man!", yelled Camryn, surprising herself.
"That kind of fire would be good for working with me", he smirked. "It's the DeRosa way of life, Cami. You can't run from it."
...
Camryn wondered around, finding herself returning to her tree spot near school. Only this time someone was there. "Miss Laine?"
"Camryn? I thought you'd be at home by now", said a surprised Miss Laine.
"No. Hanging around for a bit. Is everything ok?"
Miss Laine sighed. "Yeah. Just needed a break from that meeting. You know, sometimes I feel like a fraud", she said, before shaking her head. "I probably shouldn't be talking to my students about this."
Camryn sat down next to her. "Why'd you feel like a fraud, Miss?"
After a few seconds of silence, Miss Laine spoke. "Because all those teachers in there... actually know what they're doing. I'm just muddling along as I go, pretending I actually have a clue about what's going on in my life."
"I know the feeling. Of feeling like a fraud", said Camryn. When Miss Laine looked at her, Camryn continued. "Miss Laine, why did you pick me for Olivia? Why did you pick me to be in this club?"
Miss Laine's eyes widened. "You really don't know why?"
Camryn shook her head.
"Because you're brilliant, Camryn. Talented, passionate about your music. You care about others. There's a spark in you that not many people have."
Camryn rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right."
"I'm serious, Camryn. You have a gift. For performing, connecting with your audience. You can write songs too."
Camryn's eyes widened. "How did you know that? You've said it before as well."
Miss Laine shrugged. "Call it a hunch. You need to start realising your worth, Camryn. You're gonna go places, you are. I believe in you."
Miss Laine stood up and ran a hand through her hair. "I should head back inside. I'll see you tomorrow."
Camryn sat there, pondering on what Ernesto and Miss Laine said.
Thinking about which path she was destined to take.
