Chapter 43- Operation Save Miss Laine (Part 2)

[ Moorside Prison ]

Adelaine slowly walked forward, her eyes widening when she saw Carrie sitting by a desk. Others were visited by friends and family, but Adelaine had the misfortune of being visited by the backstabbing snake.

"Addy. You're looking lovely in that new outfit", teased Carrie.

Adelaine sighed. "What are you doing here, Carrie? You got what you wanted, ok? You've taken everything from me."

Carrie moved her face closer to Adelaine's. "How does it feel, Addy? To lose everything? How does it feel to be all alone?"

Adelaine felt the tears form in her eyes. "Please, Carrie... don't do this to them. Just admit that I didn't start the fire. Let my kids put on their show."

"Why would I do that? Why would I give everything back to you?"

"After the show I... I'll resign", said Adelaine.

Carrie's eyes widened. "Y-You'd... resign? Over a few kids that are still going through puberty?"

"They worked really hard. They've been through so much", said Addy. "Just give them this. Please."

Carrie contemplated this for a few seconds, before leaning back in her chair. "No."

"Carrie, please!", begged Addy. "What happened to you? What happened to us?"

"What happened to us?", repeated Carrie. "There is no us. Years of friendship, Addy, you threw years of friendship away the day you took my role. There is no us."

"I didn't want to. I just, I-I had all this pressure on me to step up and I didn't want to let anyone down."

"We all felt pressure, Addy! But most of us dealt with it. You needed to grow up and deal with your cr*p. But instead, you dragged me through the mud. Some friend you are", said Carrie.

Adelaine was speechless. She didn't know Carrie felt this way. Growing up, the pair were inseparable. But Adelaine had a natural talent for Theatre whereas Carrie had to work harder than most. Adelaine never left her side, even when people told her she was more invested in the friendship than Carrie was.

"I thought this would be hard. You know, seeing you locked up. But...I'm actually enjoying this. I can't wait to see you rot in this h*ll hole", said Carrie, a smirk on her face.

Que Mission Impossible music.

Deciding that having the whole group sneaking into Winniver's would be too risky, Isaac, Camryn, Darius and Weronika entered, with the others keeping watch.

"Get in, get the footage then get out. It's freezing here", said Amethyst.

Eli took off his coat. "Here, you can wear my coat."

Amethyst raised her eyebrow at it. "What's this? I don't need your charity."

"It's an olive branch, Amethyst. Don't know why he feels the need to give it to you but you should probably take it", said Stanley.

Amethyst sighed and reached for the coat. "Thanks, I guess."

Once they were inside, they slowly walked to the controls room- which took them a good 20 minutes to find, by the way.

Darius sat at the computer, trying to locate the footage. "So, you've done this before?", whispered Weronika.

"Not this. My family own a tech company so I know a thing or two about electronics", said Darius, though he didn't sound proud of it.

Isaac looked around, a worried expression on his face. "What if we get caught?"

"We won't", said Weronika.

"You don't know that."

Camryn looked at Isaac. "Don't worry, ok? We aren't doing anything wrong. Carrie's the one who's been doing bad things. We're just here to prove that."

"I know, I know", said Isaac, slightly more calm now. "But this is still a crime scene."

"It's cool", said Darius. "Moorside law states that any owner or person who attends an establishment has a right to be at the crime scene", lied Darius.

"Really?", asked Isaac.

"Yeah, dude. Article 30", lied Darius. He had no idea if that was a real thing, but hoped it would put Isaac at ease.

"Have you found it yet?", asked an impatient Camryn.

"Just one more minute an- oh, yes! Bingo! I got it. Here", said Darius.

The footage showed Miss Laine entering the bathroom and leaving, going nowhere near the room that started the fire. However, the cameras near the room were broken, so they had no way of knowing who actually started the fire.

"That's our proof!", exclaimed Isaac, before covering his mouth when he realised he was being loud.

"It shows Miss Laine's innocent but we can't exactly show this to the police", said Darius.

"Why not?", asked Weronika.

"Because then they'd know we broke in", said Darius.

Camryn sighed. "Can you transfer the files on to a memory stick or something?"

"What? You think I carry a memory stick around with me? What kind of w- ok here", said Darius, getting out his memory stick. "It shouldn't take too long."

"Good. We can tell Miss Laine about it. But for now, we have something to prove her innocence", said Weronika.

Suddenly, a loud noise was heard coming from outside.

"Excuse me? How dare you insinuate that we are breaking in! We go here", said Amethyst, knowing this was the most crucial acting performance she'd ever have to do.

"Look here Missy, this place is under investigation, so no one's supposed to be here", said the man.

Maxon, who naturally looked mature for his age, knew he'd have to convince the man to leave them alone. He cleared his throat and tried his best to look intimidating- which wasn't hard. "I'm sorry about this lot, Sir. My little sister Jourdan here...", he said, pointing to Amethyst. "... goes to this school and has been desperate to get in to retrieve our father's key chain gift. It... means a lot to us."

The man raised his eyebrow, though he seemed to believe it when Maxon included more detail.

"We were out shopping one day and he saw the key chain and said 'this would be perfect for my little angel.' She loves it. Naturally, as her older brother, I wanted to come with her to make sure she's safe."

Amethyst did her best 'puppy dog' eyes. "Please... I don't know what I'd do without it."

The man's face softened. He looked at Stanley, Meredith and Eli. "Who are these lot?"

Maxon looked at them, before looking at the man again. "These... are our siblings!"

The trio's eyes widened as they looked at each other, then Amethyst and Maxon. "Um... we're adopted. Our parents were keen on adoption", said Meredith, earning a sly nod from Maxon.

The man studied their faces for a long time, Stanley's palms getting sweaty as he was being scrutinised. "Ah fine. Just hurry up, will youse? And be quiet. I uh, I hope you find what you're looking for though."

"So do I", muttered Stanley, through his smile.

After the man left, the group who were inside ran out. "What was that all about?", asked Darius.

"No time", said Amethyst. "Did you find the footage?"

Darius grinned and raised his memory stick. "You bet."

The others grinned.

Isaac rummaged through his pockets. "Guys, I think I lost my bus money."

"No problem you can borrow m-", started Eli, before being cut off.

- OI! I KNEW YOU WERE UP TO SOMETHING!", yelled the man from earlier. He started running towards them.

"What do we do?", asked Stanley.

The loud screech of a car pulling up momentarily stopped them. "Everyone, get in!", exclaimed Kennedy, sitting next to a woman who was most likely her Mum.

Without questioning it, everyone piled into the 7 seat car- Kennedy's Mum was probably grateful she saved up for a car this big.

She drove away, with the man doubling over, clearly out of breath.

Hi!

Ok so, this is a little unrealistic but I don't just want to write about real life issues, I also want to include things that can only or mostly happen in "fiction land" because it makes the story interesting and it takes us out of real life which can sometimes be refreshing. Plus, it gives me a chance to include more humour!

I really hope you liked this chapter! Please can everyone answer this?:

What can I do to make this story more funny? And what am I doing already that provides humour?

Thank you so much!

What are your thoughts on this chapter?
