Chapter 36- Feelings

Camryn sat in the music room, playing random keys on the piano. A lot of emotions running through her mind.

It was affecting her music too. Usually when she was feeling confused, or just needed to let her emotions out, she turned to song writing. It always helped.

But she didn't know where to start. Her feelings were so new to her and that scared her. It's always scared her. Thing's that are unknown. Feelings.

"Camryn?", said Miss Laine, entering the classroom. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be eating lunch with your friends?"

"I... I don't really have friends, Miss Laine. Outside of Theatre Club, that is", said Camryn.

"Well why don't you hang out with them then?", asked Miss Laine.

"They have their own friendship groups outside of the Club. I'd feel weird just joining them", admitted Camryn.

Miss Laine sat down next to Camryn, looking at the keys on the piano. "You know, when I first started working here... I was so lost. I had trained as a teacher but suddenly the real thing... the kids were right in front of me. Young lives In responsible for."

"I've always thought you were a pretty good teacher", said Camryn. "I know we don't make it easy."

Miss Laine laughed. "No, you lot don't. But I don't think I'd have it any other way. The conversations I hear after school in the Club- I don't think I've laughed so much. Camryn, I need to ask you something."

"What is it?"

"I know you write songs. I can tell, call it a gut feeling. I'd love it if you wrote an original song for the production", said Miss Laine.

Camryn's eyes widened. "N-No, no I can't. They're mine. I don't write for anyone else. I can't."

"I understand, sweetheart. Trust me, I do. But we really need this. I believe in you, Camryn. I think it's time you started believing in yourself", said Miss Laine.

Camryn stayed silent for a while, unsure of what to say. "I-I... I need to think about it."

Miss Laine nodded. "Of course. Take all the time you need."

As soon as Miss Laine left, Camryn exhaled sharply. Regardless of how confused she was about her feelings for her, she knew who she needed to talk to. Who would help make everything alright.

Eli sat backstage, taking deep breaths to regain his composure.

Leonie, who was in her dancing clothes, jumped when she saw Eli. "Ah! Eli, you scared me!"

"I'm sorry, Amethyst!", exclaimed Eli. "I mean... Leonie."

"Is everything ok?", asked Leonie, sitting beside him.

Eli sighed. "No, not really. Just got the latest script change."

"Oh, cool! I haven't seen it yet. Wait... why is that a bad thing?"

"Charlie and Mo have a kissing scene", said Eli. "Which means-"

"-You and Amethyst have to kiss?", asked a shocked Leonie. "Woah."

Eli nodded. "Woah indeed. But I'm worried. It's a little embarrassing but... I've never been kissed before."

"Why would that be embarrassing?", asked Leonie. "I fell head first into a bucket. It's not embarrassing at all."

Eli smiled. "Thanks, Leonie. I just... I feel like I'll be really awkward with it. Amethyst's already in a pretty bad mood with all of us, and I don't want to irritate her. I just want to be prepared."

"You're not upset about your first kiss being for the show?", asked Leonie.

Eli shook his head. "No, not really. I don't think the act of love matters, essentially. It's more so the meaning and intention behind it. I'll always see my first kiss as being with someone I love. Anything before that, like this kiss, is just a kiss."

After a long pause, Leonie spoke. "That's an interesting way to look at it. I can help if you like?"

"How?"

"You can kiss me. That way you're atleast somewhat prepared for your kiss with Amethyst", suggested Leonie.

Eli's eyes widened. "Wait, what? Are you sure? What if it complicates things between us?"

"It's just a kiss", said Leonie, making Eli laugh. "I'm 99% sure I won't fall in love with you. That 1% is just be being careful."

Eli laughed. "Ok. Ok, yeah. Let's do this."

Eli placed a hand on Leonie's face, before alternating to the other side. He went back and forth a few times before finally settling on cupping her face with his hands. Leonie grinned at him the whole time. "Here I go..."

Eli leaned in, connecting their lips. Eli was hesitant at first, but soon eased into the kiss, carefully tucking a few strands of hair behind Leonie's ear.

As they kissed, the pair were oblivious to the sound of footsteps running away.

Eli pulled away, his eyes wide open. He just sat there in silence.

"Eli...", started Leonie, before getting on one knee and grabbing his hands. "Eli Brandt, will you marry me?"

Eli burst out laughing, feeling more relaxed. Leonie giggled, her eyes lighting up. "See? That wasn't so bad, was it?"

Eli shook his head. "I don't know why I was so nervous. Oh, is there like... etiquette to this? Like, the part after the kiss?"

"Yeah you're supposed to buy me a lifetime supply of chocolate ice cream", joked Leonie, making Eli laugh.

"Thanks for being so cool about this. It put me at ease", said Eli.

Kennedy and Maxon ate lunch together near the tree at school. Kennedy gave him a mini pizza her Mum made, because she knew he liked them.

"How is your Mum such a good cook?", asked Maxon.

"Who's a better cook out of your Mum and Dad?", asked Kennedy.

"Neither. My Dad never has time because he's too busy finding a job and my Mum works a lot of shifts at the Hospital. Instant noodles are my best friend", said Maxon.

"Well, you're welcome to come over to mine any time", said Kennedy, before pausing when she realised what she had said. "Like, as friends."

Maxon put down the pizza slice and turned to Kennedy. "Kennedy, we never really got to speak about that day with Leonie."

"Forget about it. It's in the past", said Kennedy.

Maxon shook his head. "No, I just want to say... I'd never go for Leonie. Not because she's not pretty or nice or anything but... there's someone else I like."

"Is it Camryn?"

Maxon's eyes widened. "Wait, what? No! Camryn and I are just friends. Does she think... I like her like that? Ah, I've really messed things up."

"No, maybe I just read the signals wrong! To be honest, I was really confused. I... well I mean, I guess I always felt like there was something between us. But if Camryn felt it too then maybe... maybe it was just your flirty personality?"

Maxon didn't know what to say. His looks had always attracted people, but he didn't know anyone would see past his exterior. "I wasn't trying to flirt with her. I like-"

"- KENNEDY, MAXON. THEATRE CLUB MEETING IN THEATRE ROOM NOW!", yelled Darius, from a distant table.

Maxon sighed, missing his moment. "Come on. We'd better go."

CAMRYN'S P.O.V

I didn't expect to see what I saw.

Eli and Leonie kissing.

But... something felt different. For the first time since Leonie kissed me, I realised something.

I wasn't jealous of her. I was jealous of him.

I like Leonie.

And that scares me.

-

Hi!

What do you think the meeting is about?

What do you think of Leonie helping Eli out? Could this be the start of a great friendship between the two dance lovers?

What are your thoughts on this chapter?
