Chapter 29- A TEAM DIVIDED

After Amethsyt's outburst, the group dispersed, leaving only Kennedy and Maxon left. The pair sat on the stage, with Maxon strumming on a guitar he found in the music room.

Kennedy gazed adoringly at him, unable to think of why someone like Maxon would willingly stay with her instead of Camryn. She didn't understand it, but she liked it.

They started singing a rendition of Let It Go by James Bay, taking the time to smile in appreciation at each other's talent.

[ As soon as I saw this, I thought about Kennedy and Maxon. This is exactly how I pictured a duet with them to go. ]

Maxon was used to seeing the world from a certain view. His mother saw so much pain at work and for a long time, Maxon didn't see any joy in life.

He was always the student who misbehaved. It wasn't just his trouble with learning because of his dyslexia, it was also the things he heard.

His Mum would tell him stories about all the lovely people she met, people his age who were bright and talented. On some occasions, he caught her crying because they couldn't save them.

It made Maxon think that there was no point in trying when even the smartest, kindest people can get their lives taken away from them.

Then he met Kennedy. The girl who never failed to make him smile. The girl who knew about the horrors of the world but chose not to let them stop her.

Kennedy never thought Maxon could teach her so much. Kennedy learned to see things from a realist's point of view. Not all the time. But she knew that life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Before she met Maxon, she trusted people too easily. Now, she chooses to see the good in everyone first but doesn't give as many chances as she used to.

As they finished singing, a glimmer of hope flashed in Kennedy's eyes. Maybe this was the moment she had been waiting for?

She closed her eyes as Maxon leaned in.

Suddenly, Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer blared from Maxon's phone. He answered the call, a look of regret on his face. "Uh, h-hello?"

"Hey. Sorry, is now a good time?", asked Camryn.

"Uh, yeah. Yeah, what's up?"

"I've just been... a bit down, I guess? I need someone to talk to and my brother's out. I tried calling Isaac but he said before that his phone was dying."

"Wow, I'm not even the first option. Ouch. Where do you want to meet?"

"The skate park? I'll send the address."

Camryn ended the call and Maxon stood up, looking at Kennedy. "I've got to go. Camryn needs me", he said, before walking to the door. He stopped abruptly, turning to face Kennedy. "You... you sounded great, by the way. You always do."

The canteen after school is foul. A mini food fight had broken out at lunch, not big enough that the entire canteen was attacked, but still significant enough for Leonie and Amethsyt to need 2 mops each.

Amethyst groaned as she lifted a large clump of hair covered in spaghetti sauce. "Ugh! This is vile."

Leonie scrubbed at the floor, almost slipping on the pool of ketchup nearby. "Yeah. It's not the best, but there are definitely worse places we can be."

Amethyst rolled her eyes.

Leonie was hesitant, but decided now was the best time to ask. "Did you make up with Weronika?"

"I don't see how that's any of your business", replied Amethsyt.

"Oh! You're right... I'm sorry. It's just, you to seemed like you were getting really close."

Amethyst sighed. "Yeah well it's good that we cut things off then. I can't imagine having a friendship like the one you and Kennedy."

Leonie furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Oh come on, Leonie! Drop the act. You're both as fake as each other", said Amethyst.

Leonie's eyes widened and she turned to face Amethsyt. "I'm sorry? Look, I get that you're upset but please don't call us fake."

"Don't tell me what to do", said Amethsyt. "You're both so preachy. You act nice to everyone, of course it's an act! You can't like everyone", said Amethsyt.

"I can try", said Leonie.

Amethsyt scoffed. "Just stop, Leonie. You're living in a fantasy world! You go on about hope but people are still dying!"

"I didn't know you were such a pessimist", said Leonie.

"I'm not a pessimist. I'm just a realist."

"Well, I'm sure we can find some common ground. Be friends", said Leonie.

"I have absolutely no interest in being friends with you. Why would I be friends with someone I can't stand?"

Leonie was taken aback. She wasn't expecting for Amethsyt to say that. Lost for words, Leonie turned back and continued to scrub the floor.

Amethyst had a lot of hate in her heart and Leonie wanted to help her. But that hatred was for Leonie and she didn't know how to go about mending the cracks in Amethsyt's heart.

Hi! I know this was short and didn't feature many characters but this was basically to set up two storylines, one which will last the course of the book, whilst the other is shorter.

After looking at my plan, a lot of the storylines took longer than expected, so this first book will most likely reach more than 50 chapters.

This is because I don't want to get rid of ANY storylines in my plan because I just feel like they suit all the characters so well.

Side note, I'm VERY angry with you guys. You've made characters that are really great and I'm getting attached now! 😂😂😂

Can everyone please answer this?:
Is 50 chapters too much? We've got a cast of 11 and everyone has atleast one storyline.
