Chapter 21- Show Don't Tell (Part 2)

There was one more performance before Moorside's and it's safe to say Stanley was feeling the pressure. He could really use Leonie's support right about now.

"Hey, you ok?", asked someone. Stanley turned around to see Rhys. The funny feeling in his stomach returned. "Hey! Y-Yeah. Just waiting on my partner."

Rhys nodded. "Well I can't wait to see your performance. Is it a dance?"

Stanley nodded. "Yeah. Duet."

Rhys nodded. "I love watching duets. There's something so intimate about them, you know? When you're dancing, you're the only two up on stage and nothing else matters. I did a duet with my ex boyfriend once and even without looking, I could tell the crowd were invested in it."

Stanley was taken aback at how easily he could talk about his sexuality. The words 'ex boyfriend' played over again in his mind but he didn't know how to feel about it. "D-Did you do it for a competition?"

Rhys shook his head. "No. It was for our last Theatre production."

"Was he your boyfriend whilst you were dancing or did you break up before?", asked Stanley.

"We broke up before. It waa hard to re-live all those feelings through dance but we did it and we decided to work on our friendship. Life isn't always about relationships, which is why I'm happily single. Dance is the love of my life. That sounds cheesy don't it?"

Camryn rushed to the Town Hall, stopping when she saw a nervous Leonie. "Camryn! I need you to perform."

Camryn's eyes widened. "What? Why?"

"Please? You just have to sing whilst Stanley does a solo", said Leonie. "I know it's last minute but I need you."

"Why don't you want to do it?", asked Camryn.

Leonie shook her head. "I-I can't. Too many people. I-I... I'm gonna mess up. Forget steps, fall... I can't do it. Please Camryn, you have to perform. "

Camryn grabbed Leonie's shoulders and looked deep into her eyes. "Listen to me, ok? You can do this. Everything your feeling is just nerves. You're gonna go out there and kíll it, I know you will. I believe in you, Leonie."

Leonie stared into Camryn's eyes, feeling more calm. "I don't want to let everyone down. I can't let everyone down. Not again."

"What are you talking about? You won't let anyone down", said Camryn. Noticing that Leonie was shaking, she gently squeezed the girl's hands before pulling her into a hug.

She wasn't a big hugger, but knew that this was something Leonie needed. "You're going to be great. Both of you are. I know there's that fire deep inside you, you don't like Carrie any more than we do. Use it."

Leonie sighed. "If I fail, Moorside will be a laughing stock."

Camryn shook her head. "We won't fail."

Camryn was a realist, but she genuinely believed in Leonie and Stanley enough to say they'd win.

"Do you believe in us that much?", asked a shocked Leonie.

Camryn nodded. "Of course. And I'll be there, to cheer you on. If you feel worried on stage...just look at me."

A small smile appeared on Leonie's face and she threw her arms around Camryn. "Thank you, Camryn."

Camryn smiled and hugged her back. Leonie closed her eyes as she took a deep breath, getting lost in the comfort of Camryn's arms.

"Leonie! We're on!", exclaimed Stanley.

-

Kennedy watched as Maxon tried to learn a group dance, stumbling left right and centre, as well as missing the beat several times.

"Hey, can I make a suggestion?", asked Kennedy.

"What, pull a Freaky Friday with someone who can dance?", suggested Maxon.

Kennedy giggled, making Maxon smile. He always thought her smile was cute. "You like photography, right?"

Maxon nodded. "Yeah, definitely."

"When you're taking pictures, and the camera's out of focus, do you just take the picture anyway?"

Maxon shook his head. "No. You need to wait for it to be in focus."

"Well, dance is like that", said Kennedy. "You have to time your movements to the beat, or it doesn't flow right. Take the beats in the music as your way of saying the camera is now in focus. Too early and the picture doesn't look right. Just like the dance routine."

When Kennedy put it into a photography perspective, something that he really loved, Maxon understood it more.

He tried again, still missing some beats but Kennedy could tell he was trying really hard.

"I can go over the choreography with you, if you like?", suggested Kennedy.

Maxon nodded. "Yes, please. That would be awesome, Kennedy."

Kennedy grinned, blushing.

-

Leonie stared at the empty stage. Their performance was delayed and they didn't know why.

Stanley rushed to them. "Bad news. Apparently the music won't play. Backstage technical difficulties."

Camryn could see Leonie starting to panic. She paced back and forth, covering her face with her hands.

Carrie laughed. "Pathetic. Even the music doesn't think you're worth the trouble", she said, laughing at her own joke. "If all your female dancers at this weak, even Collman's will have a shot at winning."

"Hey, quit it", said Mr. Scroll.

Camryn clenched her jaw, a burning feeling rising in her body. "I'll play."

Leonie looked at her. "You will?"

Camryn nodded. "H*ll yeah."

"We don't have enough time to teach you the song", said Miss Laine.

"Can you sing another one? As long as it's upbeat, Leonie and I could probably fit our dance around it", suggested Stanley.

"On the spot?", asked Miss Laine.

Leonie and Stanley looked at Camryn, hope in their eyes.

Camryn sighed. "Get yourselves ready. I'll do my best."

Stanley and Leonie cheered. "Yes! You rock, Camryn!", beamed Stanley, with Leonie nodding in agreement.

Leonie and Stanley ran on the stage, getting in their starting positions. Stanley looked at Leonie. "Have fun, yeah?"

Leonie smiled at him. "Yeah. Let's have fun."

(The routine they are dancing and the song they are dancing too. I strongly recommend you watching Sean Lew and Kaycee Rice dance performances.)

Camryn started playing her guitar, watching as Stanley and Leonie started dancing. Just from the small steps she saw, she was confident that her song choice would be perfect for this dance.

Their timing was off for a few moves, but they soon found their rhythm. Camryn started to sing and Leonie's smile lit up.

Camryn found herself watching Leonie, unsure as to why Leonie doubted herself. When she was dancing, it looked like all her worries evaporated.

They just looked like two friends having fun. It was amazing how well they connected with each other and the audience.

-

Isaac rushed into the Theatre Room, typing something on the keyboard.

"What are you doing there, Isaac?", asked Eli, curious.

"They're broadcasting the event! We can watch Stanley and Leonie!", exclaimed an excited Isaac.

Eli's face lit up. "Isaac you genius!"

Eli called everyone in and they huddled together.

Their mouths opened when they saw them.

"Is that...", started Isaac.

"...Camryn?!", exclaimed Eli.

"She's amazing!", beamed Weronika.

Kennedy gasped, pointing to the screen. "There's Leonie and Stanley!"

"I always knew Stanley could dance but d*mn, Leonie's good!", said Darius.

"I wonder why Miss Laine didn't want her to have a solo?", questioned Eli.

Isaac grinned as he watched them perform. "They look like they're having so much fun!"

"They aren't being very technical though", said Amethyst.

"I think they just want to show their fun side", said Maxon.

Amethyst thought back to when Weronika laughed at being hugged by a filthy Darius. A small smile appeared on her face. "Well... I guess it does work pretty well."

"Camryn's voice is amazing", said Kennedy. She smiled brightly, like a proud friend when she saw Leonie.

Eli smiled fondly as he watched Camryn. "You're not wrong, Kennedy."

-

Just as they were about to finish, Stanley sashayed to the audience and smiled at Carrie, before sashaying back to a smiling Leonie.

As soon as they finished, they high fived and Leonie hugged him. "Did that really just happen?", she asked.

"H*ll yeah it did!", exclaimed Stanley.

Rhys tapped him on the shoulder. "You were incredible! We've got some serious competition", smiled Rhys. "My favourite bit was the sashay."

Stanley laughed. "Hey, I saw the opportunity to sass and I just had to take it."

Rhys laughed. "Good! I'm glad you did it."

Leonie rushed over to Camryn, nearly making her fall with the sheer force of the hug. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You were so good! I didn't know you could sing like that."

Camryn blushed. "Thanks. I don't know why you were so worried, you  kílled it out there!"

Stanley rushed over to them. "Camryn you were great! That song was fire, you have to tell me the artist's name."

Leonie nodded. "Yeah, I need to create a playlist of all their songs."

Camryn froze, unable to think of a response. "Uh, um... she's an underground artist I think. Sonia Jones or something, I'm not sure."

"Well I hope she carries on making music", said Stanley, with Leonie nodding in agreement.

Camryn breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't let it slip. She couldn't tell them that it was her orginal song.

-

Hi! I know this was quite long.

What did you think about it?

Can you see any potential couples?

I just want to take the time to thank you all again for your endless support and comments- I love reading them! I don't always know how to reply or sometimes don't see them, but the one's I do see, I read them immediately.

I've just come back from school so I'll be free for a while.
