Nineteen

"Will was... A great kid. Got good grades, fine singer, and... My son." Will's father, Gregory, finished his small speech before the next show and then walking away from the podium sobbing to meet his wife. Evan hadn't spoken a word to anyone, and the theater hummed a different tone now that the boy held a blank glance as he looked into Connor's eyes.

The first act finished, and Connor felt almost rage bubbling up inside of him. He couldn't believe how much of an idiot Will had been to take his life without leaving any sort of note, or reason, and leaving Evan to suffer with the silence. Connor knew the boy blamed himself, and he couldn't even begin to try to help him.

     "Hey Zo-"

"He won't talk. Not even to Jared." She whispered wide eyed, shaking her head as a small sob escaped her lips. Connor pulled her into a tight hug, trying not to let tears overtake him too as he let go.

"Five!" Goldie, their stage manager called as she rushed to find Evan somewhere in the wings to try and give him any sort of encouragement.

"Did you get a chance to talk to Dad?" Zoe whispered, tucking a piece of Connor's hair behind his ear and straightening out his jacket meticulously.

"I've managed to avoid him." Connor grumbled in response as he felt his nerves grow again. Larry hadn't been pleased to say the least over his performance kissing his boyfriends lips. His father had left early due to the fact, and Connor did just the same in avoiding the man every move he made. He had never supported Connor in much, told him to join a sport than the theater troupe or do something instead of sitting locked in his room.

    "Connor..."

"Showtime." He hissed as he broke away from Zoe, shoving his hands in his pockets as he stood in the wings. Zoe shook her head, drying her eyes in seconds and following the rest of the Heathers back to where they entered.

The show was over almost as soon as it started, and the most anyone saw of Evan out of costume was running off into the dark parking lot.

Connor had followed, he wasn't about to let the boy get hurt. To his delight, he saw the boy giving his mother a tight hug. He heard the sobs, and turned his back so he could leave them to the moment.

"Connor?" Heidi's voice called softly, letting go of Evan after giving his hand a tight squeeze. Connor took a step forward, and Heidi only invited him more.

"Could... C-Could you stay the night?" Evan's voice whispered and Connor's eyes widened. He nodded, looking to Heidi for a confirmation and earning a warm smile as he enveloped the boy in his arms. He let out a muffled sob, squeezing Evan tightly as he pressed a kiss into his hair.

"Oh..." Heidi covered her mouth to keep from any more words spilling out, but a giggle escaped Evan's mouth as he pulled away from Connor.

"Mom, this... This is Connor, my boyfriend." He murmured, and Connor slung an arm around the others shoulder with a nearly crazed smile as he looked to Evan proudly. Heidi could barely contain her smile, shaking her head as she gave Connor a quick hug.

"You're welcome over whenever you like, Connor."

"Thank you." Connor whispered, pulling Evan slowly into the backseat of the car and letting the smaller boy cuddle up into his side as Heidi started the engine.

"Can I take you boys anywhere? Ice cream? I don't know what you guys like... Oh shit, you're not lactose intolerant, are you Connor?" Heidi felt immediately responsible for the boy, pulling out of the parking lot with a little more care than usual.

"I'm not," Connor smiled, and feeling Evan's body shiver trying to suppress another laugh, "but really, you both need to rest... Home is fine." Evan took notice to how Connor hadn't called it their house, and rather just home. It was a beautiful little measure, causing the boy to blush and hold onto Connor's arm a little tighter.

Heidi nodded to them in the mirror with a loving smile, then focusing back on the road and eventually getting them all home.

"I know it's late but-" She had already opened the cabinets, looking for any sort of food.

"Mom... Please go to bed." Evan smiled, moving to give her a tight hug before giving her the smallest of pushes towards her bedroom.

"Oh... Oh. Yes, of course honey. Wake me if you need anything." Heidi threw him a wink which made Evan's blush only strengthen and a loud laugh from Connor. Evan took his hand, pulling him upstairs to his bedroom and sitting down on the bed with an exhausted sigh.

   "So... About-"

"No... No. For once... Let's forget about him. Let's forget about everything in this world, only us." Evan spoke, pulling Connor's hand so he was beside him.

"It's just you and me." Connor spoke with a stupid smile, taking Evan's hand in his own and playing around with his fingers in his own. Evan rested his forehead against Connor's, and in seconds their lips were connected. This was the first time in days they had kissed beside being on stage, and their excitement between them bubbled up as Connor softly pushed further into the kiss. Evan let him, letting his arms wrap around the others neck and parting his lips a little.

"I love you... So much." Evan's words were sloppy as he let out a small gasp for breath, and Connor panted for a moment as they connected again and fell backwards into the bed. Connor made sure to keep Evan comfortable as he just nearly pinned him underneath him, his lips parting just as Evan's were against his lips and letting his tongue slip into the others mouth for a moment and earning the smallest of movements form Evan.

"I love you Evan Hansen... So so much." Connor panted as they finally pulled away, Evan bringing him into another quick kiss as his hands lay on Connor's face.

"C-Connor..." Evan started, and Connor sat up to let the other get up and sit close to his lap. He held Connor's hand tight in his own as he looked up to him with most subtle tears in his eyes.

"You've given me my life back... You've given me everything back."
