18.) Work Study Internships
So if you haven't watched season 4 yet don't continue reading!
Above is a pic I recolored. I have more on my instagram. Check my profile for the account.
Kivi once again wakes up early to take Aki to preschool. She arrives the same time Mayu does with Gyaku.
"Ohayo! Kivi, Akiba," Mayu greets.
"Ohayo!" Gyaku smiles.
After saying their goodbyes to them, the boys scatter off into their class. Kivi turns to Mayu.
"Would you ever want me to pick up Gyaku if you can't? Same would go for Aki to you," Kivi asks.
"I don't mind, and it'd be very helpful if you could sometimes," Mayu sighs thoughtfully. "My husband always works well until after the preschool closes, and I also sometimes get over busy at my job."
"Thank you. Sometimes we get after school training, and I won't be able to get him. It'd be a life saver."
~~~
"I have the results of yesterday's discussion regarding hero internships for freshmen," Aizawa begins. "Starting with the principal, the majority of the teachers said, 'Give it up.'"
"Whaaat?! Even after the info session with the seniors?!" Kirishima exclaims.
"But if we think about it from the sequence of events that led to everyone living in the dorms, I guess it would turn out like this..." Pikachu voices.
"SERVES YOU RIGHT!" Bakugo exclaims happily.
"Bro, shut up. You're just jelly you can't participate," Kivi sighs.
"What was that?!"
"However..." Aizawa clears his throat to interrupt Bakugo. "There are also those with the opinion, that under our current safeguard policy, we won't raise you to be strong heroes. So this will be our policy: We will only allow freshmen to work at offices that have a good track record when taking in interns. That is the conclusion we reached."
Kivi raises her hand as the others begin to mumble about their past internships. Aizawa calls on Kivi to go ahead.
"Is this a requirement?"
"Huh? What do you mean, Kivi-san?" Uraraka asks.
"What I mean is do we have to do this?" Kivi asks, sighing. "I have more important things to do than learn about things I already know how to do. My parents taught me and interned me since I've had my quirk. Is it mandatory for me to do this?"
"No," Aizawa says.
Kivi blinks and shrugs. "Good."
"Seriously?!" just about everyone in the room shouts at her.
"I have personal matters to attend to. I don't have time for unneeded–"
"But you'll get to fight!" Kirishima argues.
"I can already fight. That's what the provisional license grants when it's an emergency. It's not like this class doesn't get in trouble everywhere it goes. Besides being a hero is not supposed to be exciting or just to fight, it's about saving people. Being a hero isn't for fun and play time. It's serious. I don't need to relearn things I already know how to do. Also, mind your own damn business. I have my reasons for not doing this and I don't need to explain them."
No one talks to her after that.
...
Since most everyone is off on their internships and Bakugo and Shoto have the remedial course, class is not in session today, leaving Kivi to do whatever she wants. That means that herself and Akiba are traveling a city.
"What're we doing?"
"Traveling the city to find fun things to do. We haven't seen each other in a while," Kivi says, swinging their connected hands. "I missed you, and we're going to hang out whenever I can. What do you want to do today?"
"K-Kivi-san?"
Kivi freezes, looking up ahead of her.
Standing in front of her are Izuku and the blond senior boy from the other day.
"Ah, nice to see you again, Kichan," the blond speaks.
Kivi's eye twitches in annoyance at the nickname.
"Uh, Kivi-san? Who is this?" Izuku asks, looking at her brother.
"He's my–"
Before Kivi can answer, Izuku is tackled in the legs by a silverette child. She falls to her butt, looking up at Izuku in awe mixed with fright.
Izuku bends down to her level. "Ah, my bad, that must've hurt!"
Kivi feels the fear radiating from the girl and moves up to her, keeping Aki close to her side.
"Look what you've done, causing a hero so much trouble," a man speaks, coming out from the alleyway the girl did. They all look to the man in the birdbeak mask. "Come back, Eri."
Kivi places a hand on the girl's shoulder, absorbing some of her radiating fear. "Hey, it's okay. We won't hurt you," Kivi whispers to the girl who looks hopefully up at her.
"Sorry about my daughter, heroes," the man says, acting very well rehearsed. "She's been horsing around too much, so she's a bit scraped up. Worries me sick!"
Kivi's eyes narrow. "We didn't ask."
The man's eyes turn to Kivi. "Thought I should explain."
"If you have to explain, you know you're hiding something," Kivi retorts, glaring now.
The blond senior flicks Izuku's mask back over his head. "Your hood and mask slipped off again! You sure you got the right measurements for 'em?"
The blond and the man with the mask begin to converse with each other, the blond making sure not to give up any information about himself and Izuku.
Aki moves over to the girl named Eri. "Hi! I'm Akiba! Maybe we be friends."
Eri looks at him with wide eyes.
"Right then, we've gotta keep patrolling the area until noon!" blondie says. "Time to go!"
"Right..." Izuku mumbles.
Eri grips Izuku's suit tighter. "Don't... don't go..."
"Um, excuse me..." Izuku mutters loud enough for everyone to hear. "Your daughter, she seems scared."
"Yes, because I just scolded her."
"Let's go," blond boy grunts, moving towards them warily.
"No, the kind of bandages on her are not the type for too much horsing around," Kivi scoffs, standing tall. "These types of injuries are from abuse. I know exactly what those look like. I would know."
Izuku gives her an unreadable expression.
"She falls down a lot."
"I don't know who you are and frankly I don't care," Kivi says, turning to glare quickly at her hidden feared senior. She looks back to the masked man. "She's shaking in fear. That's not normal for just being scolded."
"Please don't go imposing your own ideas of what's 'normal'... on other people's home lives," the man huffs.
"It takes all kinds, right?" blond speaks up, trying to cut the rising tension.
"What are you doing to her?" Izuku furthers.
"Hmph..." the man sighs, throwing his hands up and to the sides. "I swear heroes are all so sensitive to the smallest things. Fine, I understand. It's embarrassing..." He begins to turn and walk back down the alleyway. "So I'd rather not talk about it in public... Could you follow me over there?"
The three teens look to each other.
"Aki, stay right here, okay?" Kivi voices. "I'll be right back."
"Okay."
Izuku stands up, carrying Eri gently. The three teens follow.
"To tell you the truth, I've been worried about Eri lately," he begins. "No matter what I say, she does nothing but rebel."
"Worried about raising her... is it? That sounds rough..." blondie chips in.
Kivi gives him an annoyed look. God you're fucking annoying.
"It is. Kids are hard to understand, let me tell you," he says with his back turned to us. "It honestly makes me think... I could turn into a very different kind of person." His right hand moves to his left, gripping the glove he has on.
Kivi senses the change and throws up a one way shield around them. Eri suddenly jumps out of Izuku's arms and rushes over to the masked man, passing through the shield.
"Huh?!" Izuku grunts in surprise.
"What now... you done with your little tantrum?" masky asks.
Eri nods.
Kivi releases the shield.
"But... but... Eri? Are you...?" Izuku stutters out.
"This is how it always is. I'm sorry I ended up bothering you with all of this. Again, sorry for the trouble. Good luck... on the job."
"Wait...! Why?!" Izuku speaks, trying to move forward only for blondie to hold him back.
"Didn't you notice? He made a show of his murderous intent... to reel that kid back in."
"Yeah, I noticed," Kivi replies harshly as the two completely disappear from view. "That's why I had a shield up."
"We need to report back to Sir," blondie says. "Ki-chan, you need to come with us. You're a part of this now too."
They exit the alleyway as blondie texts Sir.
Kivi moves to her brother. "Are you okay?"
He gives her a big smile and nods.
"U-uh, Kivi-san?" Izuku voices. "Who is he?"
Kivi sighs, knowing the jig is up. "This is my little brother, Akiba."
Aki looks up at Izuku with a smile. "Hi!"
Izuku smiles back. "Hi, I'm your sister's frie—...classmate. I'm Midoriya Izuku. How old are you?"
"Five!"
Izuku smiles, looking to Kivi. "Looks just like you. Does he have a quirk?"
"Yeah, energy regeneration. He can regrow any part of his own or anyone else's body using energy around him. He can also shoot energy with enough concentration."
"Wow, that's pretty cool!" Izuku admits.
"Sir and Bubble Girl are meeting us," blondie says. "We should go."
The four of them begin to walk, all following blondie.
"Izuku," Kivi whispers, pulling him back. "You realize that you just unintentionally used your original quirk, right?"
"Seriously?!" he sputters. He begins to mumble to himself as they continue their trek to meet with the pro heroes.
They meet the two pros on a street corner.
Blondie immediately speaks up. "I'm so sorry! We had an incident! Never would've believed we'd end up bumping into each other on the street like he was the new transfer student or something..."
Sir cuts off his rambling with a raised hand. "No, this was an error on my part. If I had endeavored to foresee you two, I could have prevented it."
"In any case, I'm glad you're okay!" Bubble Girl says. "If you'd made a wrong move and he'd gotten suspicious, it coulda been dicey back there."
"I would've handled it," Kivi replies.
"And who exactly are you?" Sir asks, turning his attention to her.
"Kivi, I'm a classmate of Izuku's here," Kivi says, gesturing to Izuku. "I was there when this went down. My power enables me to cancel another's quirk. He would've never gotten the chance to hurt any of us."
"Do you have the jurisdiction for such action?" Sir asks.
"Have a license? Yeah, I do," Kivi says, pulling the license out of her wallet and flashing it at him. He looks at the small boy next to her. "This is my younger brother. He's staying with me from now on after our parents abandoned him. He's not great at Japanese, so if you have anything to say, he won't understand most of it."
Izuku looks at her in surprise.
Sir sighs. "You're a part of this now too. Some days ago, a band of robbers on the run caused an accident with a truck that involved a few 'bystanders.' Those 'bystanders' were Chisaki and the other Eightfold Cleaners. And yet, there were zero casualties. The robbers reportedly passed out from excruciating pain, but for some reason were left with no wounds. On the contrary..."
Kivi listens to his long ranting explanation slightly uninterested.
"Ah, almost forgot! Sir! Speaking of injuries... we've got some new intel! Chisaki's got a daughter!"
"A daughter?"
"Her name was Eri. She had bandages around her legs and arms. I don't know what's going on but she wanted to be saved! If there's any way we could protect her..." Izuku says.
"Don't be so arrogant," Sir retorts with a glare.
"...Arrogant?" Izuku mutters confused.
Kivi zones out of the conversation, turning to her brother. "I'm sorry our day got cut off. I'll make it up to you this weekend. Okay?"
"Okay, Kivi!"
She sighs. "How about I introduce you to all my classmates when we get back, huh?"
"Yeah, yeah!" he cheers.
Kivi smiles, not unnoticed by Izuku or blondie. This boy is obviously the reason she's becoming a hero. Both males could feel the happiness he gives her. Whether he knows it or not, he has her wrapped around his finger, and she knows it.
Izuku, Kivi, and Akiba return to the dorms. Their whole class is hanging out together in the common room. Pikachu, earplug girl, Mina, and Kirishima are playing whatever game of Mario Kart Wii. Pikachu is in last place and earplug is in first. Everyone is cheering her on.
"Go Jiro go!" Ochaco cheers excitedly.
"Yeah, Jiro!" tape boy cheers.
"Hey! I thought you were on my side!" Pikachu complains.
"Well, you're losing," tape elbows says.
Iida and Momo notice the three. Momo looks on in surprise.
"Yeah!" Mina cheers. "Second place! Not too bad."
"Uh, guys, we have a guest," Momo speaks up, gaining everyone's attention.
They all turn to the three, surprised at their little visitor.
"I didn't know you had a son, Kivi-san," Kirishima admits.
"Why does everyone say that?" Kivi complains with an eyeroll. "This is my younger brother, Akiba. Akiba these guys are my classmates. He's staying with me now, and he's been here for about a week. I figured it's time for you to meet him. Lord knows Izuku can't keep a secret."
"Ain't that the truth," Bakugo mumbles from the table nearby, sitting crisscross on his chair. Sprawled out all across the counter in front of him is paperwork and books to study. Shoto sits across from him in the exact same position. Bakugo doesn't look up from studying.
Izuku pouts. "I'm not bad at keeping secrets."
"Believe what you want. So, you've all met him now. Now we can depart to my room." She turns to the elevator, taking her brother with her.
"You don't look surprised, Bakugo," Shoto says.
"Neither do you, emotionless. Already met the brat a few days ago," Bakugo huffs.
"You and Kivi-san are getting close," Shoto inputs.
"Congrats on your realization," Bakugo scoffs, scribbling something on his paper.
"And you aren't dating?" tape elbows asks.
"Why the fuck would we do that?"
"I don't know cause you tolerate her? She's the only person besides Kirishima that you've let close to you," Mina says then gasps. "Unless you're dating Kiri!"
Kirishima squeaks. "No!"
Bakugo sputters. "What the fuck?! No, dumbass pinky!"
"Or is it Midoriya?!"
Bakugo grabs the nearest textbook that isn't being used and flings it at her face before she can dodge, getting nailed in the forehead. "Die!" (Yeet but in Bakugo language! 😂😂😂 Sorry not sorry!)
"Oww oww oww..." she winces.
"Don't assume stupid shit!" Bakugo yells.
Aki comes from around the corner with an annoyed Kivi trudging along behind him. Kivi sighs about to speak but is cut off.
"You're always so mean to everyone just a little less mean to her," Kirishima agrees. "She's weaseled her way into you liking her."
Kivi snickers, gaining everyone's
attention. "I don't weasel. He weaseled himself into liking me. Anyway, Aki wanted to introduce and meet everyone. How bothersome..."
"Hi! I'm Akiba! Nice to meet you!"
Invisible girl squeals. "He's so cute!"
Everyone rushes up to him and coos over him except Shoto, Bakugo, and Iida. Kivi moves away and over to the two studying boys.
"How'd Deku find out?" Bakugo grunts.
"Bumped into him in the city," Kivi sighs. "Wasn't paying enough attention."
"Dumbass."
"Yeah, whatever. What're you two working on?"
"Like you care."
"True. I don't."
Shoto hmphs. "Not interested, yeah right."
"Believe what you want, icyhot, doesn't make it true," Bakugo scoffs.
Kivi snickers, walking up behind Bakugo and draping her arms over his shoulders. "Yeah, doesn't make it true, babe." She quickly pecks Bakugo's cheek and rushes off with a laugh.
"I'll kill you!" he shouts, face as red as his eyes.
Kivi generally laughs for the first time in a while. "Love you too, babe."
"So you are dating!" Mina exclaims.
"No dumbass!" Bakugo shouts.
"I was joking," Kivi says with an eye roll. "Thought that was obvious. Mina aren't you dating Kirishima?"
She flushes. "No!"
"Mashi and invisigirl," Kivi speaks up. "You two are dating, right?"
The two flush. The glow present even on invisible girl. They both squeal a 'no.'
"Iida and Momo. Earjack and Pikachu. Ochaco and Izu. I call it now," Kivi nods, hand to her chin. Each named flushes. "Anyway, Aki, you ready to go upstairs?"
"I wanna hang out with your friends more!"
Kivi sighs. "I knew this would happen. Alright." She takes one of the key card lanyards from her bag and slips it on over his head. "Don't let anyone have this. It's your key card. You know how to use it. Yuga, Iida, Momo, Ochaco watch him, okay? He's my little brother. If I have to trust him with anyone it's you guys."
"Aww, don't get all sappy on us," Ochaco coos.
Kivi turns to her in a glare, making her shrink back. "I'll be upstairs. If anything happens to my little brother, Katsuki, I give you permission to explode them."
"Gladly," Bakugo smirks, exploding his fist in his palm.
"As long as I get to finish them off," Kivi evilly grins. "Then Hades and Lucifer can eat your scraps."
Everyone gives a scared gulp as Kivi leaves. "S-Scary..."
"Oh, and Bakugo, bath duty!"
"I'm not his damn babysitter!" he growls. "I only helped to repay you for when I was a damn brat!"
Kivi shrugs. "That's fine. I'm sure any of the others would gladly watch over him. Hey, Izu–"
"Fuck that damn nerd! I can handle the brat myself!"
Kivi coyly smirks, knowing she got him. "If you don't want to–"
"I already said I'll fucking do it!"
"Alright, alright," Kivi rolls her eyes. Dumbass. "Thanks, Katsu." She gives him a playful wink before heading to her room.
"Katsu?" Kirishima snickers, wiggling his eyebrows and nudging Bakugo.
Bakugo grabs his face, throwing him across the room with an explosion.
~~~
Kivi likes to bathe once everyone is asleep. She'll usually head down after putting Akiba to bed. She heads to the showers rinsing her body and cleaning it before soaking in the hot springs. She gathers that Kirishima is on the boy's side and makes herself somewhat quieter to not gain his attention. Of course she doesn't really try all that hard, and Kirishima hears her enter the hot springs.
"Hello? Who's over there?" Kivi remains quiet, not wanting to interact with anyone. "I heard you. Don't ignore meeee."
Kivi lets out an annoyed sigh. "It's Kivi. What do you want, Kirishima?"
"Uh... I... could use some help..."
"I'm not helping you bathe. That's gross and weird."
"No! I'm not! I'm not even bathing! I... it'd be easier if you just came over here."
"You may not be bathing but I am. You'll have to wait."
"Okay!"
"If I help you, I want something in return."
"Huh?"
"You heard me. You owe me a favor. Whatever I want."
"Uh, alright."
Kivi rolls her eyes and makes sure to take her sweet time. About half an hour passes. "You're still over there? Seriously? I was hoping you'd leave."
"Yep!"
She gets herself dried off with a sigh and gets dressed in her pjs, heading over to the boy's side after. "What do you want?"
Sitting in front of one of the mirrors is Kirishima with hair dye products in front of him. "Don't tell anyone."
Kivi blinks. "You dye your hair red? Never would've guessed. You even do your eyebrows. I'm impressed."
He lets out a nervous chuckle. "My roots are starting to grow back out. I've managed to cover it for the past few days."
"You know dying your hair this much will kill it, right? Your hair will become fragile and just fall out," Kivi informs.
"Seriously?!"
"Yeah, I used to dye my hair brown all the time. I didn't wanna match my parents. No blue or pink or purple or green. Had to get away from those colors."
"Why?! Your blue hair is so beautiful!" he claims. "Why stay away those colors?"
She grins. "Thanks, but it's the color of my father's. My mother's is pink. Our whole family's eyes are green. And... purple... I really dislike the color purple. I don't like my parents. Anyway, you need me to get the roots?"
"Yeah, I already mixed the bleach then we put the red in after."
"You with black hair," Kivi nods. "That'd be a different sight."
