Ch. 8: Plane Ride

The next day, Amity and Luz arrived at the airport. They had a long flight ahead of them, heading all the way down to Columbia. Ghost was coming with them of course and being kept in a pet carrier, even if she didn't like it.

"This is demoralizing." Ghost said as Luz looked at her.

"Don't worry. The trip won't be that long." Luz said to her.

"Besides, we need you to look like a normal cat."

"Normal? I find that offensive. I am FAR from normal." Ghost said to Luz.

"We know, Ghost but just play along for now." Amity whispered as they reached the first gate.

Amity doesn't care if she's a witch with a magical staff or not... she HATES flying. She didn't know why but she just felt nervous and jittery when on a large or small flying vehicle! Like she would crash and die at any moment!

'Please God, give me strength.' Amity thought.

Luz wasn't a stranger to flying, she's been on planes for a long time. Mostly for work at other zoos that requested her, she grew accustomed to it and liked it. Especially when they pay for her to flight 1st class!

'The perks of the job.'

Once they got they showed ID, went through the X-ray, and reclaimed their bags; the two of them let their bags and Ghost be checked before heading to their plane.

"Well, the easy part is done." Luz said.

"That was easy?" Amity said, holding Luz's hand tightly to calm herself.

"Don't worry, it won't be so bad." Luz said to her, "I was talking about the entire adventure. We have to go through an entire jungle."

"And yet that scares me less than this plane ride because you have a way with animals." Amity said as they entered the terminal.

"Don't forget, you have your gifts too." Luz said, reminding Amity of her magic training.

"Not much." Amity replied.

"Hey, it's good enough to help." Luz said.

"I remember when my life was normal." Amity said, "No speaking to animals, no magic, no seed in my heart, I was just a normal Jewish girl that worked at a zoo."

"Yeah but normal can get so boring sometimes. The day I found out about my gift, I never had a normal day in my life and I loved it." Luz said as they approached their seats, right side in first class.

"So, my beautiful fiancé, are you excited?" Luz asked.

"I will be when we're back in the ground." Amity said as they sat in their seats, with Amity being away from the window.

"I meant for your first experience in first class. Trust me, you'll forget all your worries by the time we're half way there." Luz said to her.

"I mean, if you're that nervous I can think of something we can do." Luz said, "I haven't joined the mile high club."

Luz's stupid grin was knocked off her face when Amity smacked the back of her head.

"Don't be stupid." Amity said.

'On a plane? Is she insane?!' Amity thought.

"Okay, okay. No "mile high club."" Luz said to her, "... We'll do it in the jungle."

'Really?.....Still better than a plane.' Amity thought.

A stewardess came to them and gave a small smile as she grabbed an intercom phone from the front.

"Welcome ladies and gentlemen. Our flight will be taking off in 10 minutes. Please use this time to stow your bags in the overhead compartments and find your seats." She said in a calming voice, "And thank you for flying with us."

She put the phone away as people went back to their business, some talking while others were still boarding. Luz decided to look over the menu for the food and checked the vegetarian options.

"An imitation burger with a side of fries? Sounds interesting." Luz said as she showed the option to Amity.

"It does seem intriguing." Amity said, "I've never had imitation meat before."

"Then we should try it. I can remember what meat tasted like before I quit. Let's see if it can compare." Luz said.

"Okay."

Another stewardess came by and took their orders for their flight meals as nearly all the seats were filled over the next few minutes. Amity was getting more nervous with each minute.

"Hey, I'm right here." Luz said.

She held Amity's hand to try and calm her down while trying to not wince from her surprisingly tight grip.

"You'll be fine, I won't leave you."

"You better not." Amity said to her.

"Maybe we should order some drinks too, they could help calm you down." Luz said to her.

"Maybe."

Luz got the stewardess's attention again as she passed by.

"Can we get two small bottles of alcohol, please? My fiancé is a bit nervous about the flight." Luz said.

"Of course, ma'am. And if she needs anything else to help her remain calm, just ask." She replied before leaving them.

"You seem to know how this works." Amity said.

"Because I travel a lot. You get used to it after a while."

Amity nodded to Luz as she continued to wait nervously for the plane to take off, trying to take her mind off it by thinking of anything....but not her father. She was still furious. They've been in contact for months, and he decided to not tell her about what he did. And what if this was something that could become seriously detrimental to her health?! That man should've told her sooner before that! Luz began to pet Amity, noticing that she was getting anxious and angry and automatically went into zookeeper mode and pet her like how she pets Tina and Tyler. To their surprise... Amity began purring.

'Oh my god, is this really happening? And if it is, why don't I have my phone?!' Luz thought, looking in awe of her purring fiancé.

Amity was blushing, she had no idea she could purr!

'Is this a witch thing!?' Amity thought, 'I know it's not a Jewish thing or a Gay thing, so it has to be a witch thing!'

"Oh, my little kitty cat." Luz said.

"Do not call me that." Amity said quickly.

"Yeah, Ghost would get jealous." Luz said, "Guess you're the mama cat honestly."

"I am not a mama cat." Amity whispered to her.

"Yes you are, mother." A voice said, making them jump a bit.

Feeling something in her lap, Amity looked down to see Ghost with her camouflage magic iced herself.

"Ghost?!" Amity whispered!

"Mother!" Ghost said.

"Why are you not in the pet carrier?!" Amity whispered to her palisman/child.

"I got lonely and those brutes handled me with no grace. I want to be with Mother." Ghost said, curling up on Amity's lap.

'Mother?'

This surprised Amity a bit, she didn't expect Luz to be right about this. About the palisman seed Alador selfishly put in her heart giving birth to Ghost....JUST LIKE IN THAT DREAM!

'So it wasn't a dream, it was a memory.' Amity thought.

Ghost is Amity's Palisman, because Amity MADE her. And in a way, Ghost was her child as well. Her first child.

"Awwwww." Luz whispered, able to see Ghost in her camo for some reason.

"How can you see her?"

"Maybe Ghost is allowing me too? I don't know, it's magic." Luz whispered but was happy to see this either way, "Now hang out with your baby."

Luz got up and headed to use the bathroom before take off, making Amity called out to stop her.

"Wait, you promised!" Amity let out, reaching out to her.

"It's fine. I'm just going to the bathroom. I'll be back before the plane is in the air." Luz promised her.

"Don't worry, Mother, I'm here for you!" Ghost said.

This made Amity blush a bit and feel more comfortable as she moved to hold her palisman child close, trying to make it off as just crossing her arms as she looked out the window.

'It's going to be okay.' Amity thought.

As Amity as telling herself this, the stewardess came back with their small alcoholic drinks and Amity took one to drink.

'I know I don't drink much but I need to calm down.' Amity thought.

She downed it.

"Mother, don't drink too much." Ghost said to her.

"I won't, don't worry." Amity whispered as she put the empty bottle down, "Just needed one to help calm down."

Amity wasn't sure how she felt about Ghost calling her mother, she wasn't against it, but it felt... weird. After all, Amity and Luz hadn't officially decided on having kids after marriage yet. So it was still in the air. She also began to wonder... could she make more palisman?

"Hey, I'm back." Luz said, pulling Amity from her thoughts as she sat back down.

"Hey."

"Did I miss anything?" Luz asked as a plan speaker came on.

"Attention, passengers. Please fasten your seatbelts, we are getting ready for take off." The pilot said.

The two did so. For Ghost, she just curled up closer to Amity's stomach for warmth and security.

'This is really cute.' Amity thought.

It was also help calming Amity down as the plane began rolling into the take off lane.

"Just relax and enjoy it." Luz said, hugging Amity

Amity let out a sigh and snuggled with Luz, relaxing in in her embrace while still nervous about the flight.

"How long is this flight again?" Amity asked.

"About twelve hours."

"Oh joy." Amity said with a groan.

Half of an entire day dedicated to flying, the one thing she fears the most in this world.

"You're cute when you're scared, you know that?"

"Shut up." Amity said but she had a small smile on her face.

"Nope." Luz said with a smile, kissing Amity's forehead, "I love you, Amity."

"I love you too, Luz." Amity said as the plane slowly took into the air, making her shut the window screen so she wouldn't see. "But I'm still terrified."

"And I love you because of that." Luz said, "Because every part of you is adorable."

"Shut up." Amity said with a blush, moving closer to snuggle with Luz. "You're embarrassing me."

"I know." Luz said.

The two snuggled in their seats as the plane reached into the sky, cruising calmly for a while the passengers waited to be able to walk around calmly. It seemed to be a nice peaceful flight.

"Attention, passengers, we have now reached cruising altitude. You are now free to walk about the cabins." The flight attendant said.

"Alright, Amity, you want to walk a bit, stretch your legs?"

"First sitting in a flying death trap and now walking on it? Luz, which sounds worse?" Amity asked her.

"Don't be silly. Research shows that plane travel is actually safer than driving a car." Luz said to her.

"Tell that to New York." Amity said.

"Okay, you can't use that as every argument for a plane." Luz said, "Planes have come a long way since then."

"I was born in the 90's I watched that happen on TV."

"So was I. I could see the smoke from my house." Luz said, "Do you realize how close my town and New York City are? You could've biked there."

"That just further makes my point." Amity said to her.

"Well, I am going to walk around a bit. I'd very much like to explore the plane a little." Ghost said.

"Please be careful."

"I will, mother. My camouflage will stay on at all times." Ghost said.

"It's cute that she calls you mother." Luz said, "How's it feel to be a mother?"

"....No comment but I don't hate it." Amity whispered as Ghost jumped off her lap and began walking while avoiding contact with anyone.

"Amity, do you ever want to have a kid one day?" Luz asked.

"I....well, I don't NOT want a child but I just don't think we'd be ready until a year or less after we're married. There's a lot to plan for them and I just want us to be ready." Amity said.

"I know, I was just wondering."

Luz made Amity cuddle against her as the stewardess came by with headphones for the inflight movie. First class headphones were free.

"What movie is it?" Luz asked, taking two pairs of headphones for them.

"A nice little romantic movie."

"Ooooh, that sounds perfect to calm my sweetie down." Luz said, gesturing to Amity.

"Oh, first time flying?" She stewardess asked.

"Yeah." Amity said.

'On a plane.' Amity thought.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine."

The stewardess took her leave and hand out other headphones to passengers.

"Isn't this nice, Amity?"

"I guess. But I won't distract me much." Amity said as she paid attention to the movie.

"I can change that." Luz said with a smirk.
