Let us set the scene, right?

Picture this. Island life. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, birds chirping, not too hot, not too cold all you needed was a light jacket, all the normal stuff. A certain sight to see was on one of the streets of this pretty island, downtown. Mariposa Avenue. There was a line of people standing outside that wrapped around the building. Even down the intersecting street, Main Street. It was one of those buildings that looked like it was made of glass. The line was so long that there were rumors that some people 'may not be able to be seen.'

What were these people waiting for? Food? Shelter? Unemployment?

No, thank God. Though that's an issue that needs to be addressed. Most were smiling. Although very nervous ones. Every person was so excited that they might even throw up. They were all hoping and praying that this would be the day their life may change. Some who were at the front of the line had camped out all night - since about 2 am maybe. However, the crowd started to get enormous at 5 am. The doors open at 7.

What time was it now? 6:58 am.

Oh, they must be waiting for Foot Locker to open, the new Jordans were out, or it was Black Friday?

No.

It was an audition for the first major talent management company on the island of Bermuda. The island was so small that they never had one. Bermuda was about as big as Washington, D.C. They barely had any recording studios, but they had the most beautiful beaches, wildlife, and the best seafood. Though they were very beautiful people, no one from this island was famous. No celebrities - at least right now - represented their island. Just locals of high status. Their island was mostly ignored or thought of as just the best wedding destination in the world. A tourist stop. A handful of well-known celebrities had vacation homes here and one of them was Christopher Westwood. Yeah, him.

Wait, who?

Christopher Westwood is becoming one of the most infamous legends in the music industry. After being a part of one of the most successful 90s boy bands, he went on to manage some of the best artists of the 2000s. Pink, Lil Wayne, N.E.R.D., various boybands and helped Gwen Stefani and Fergie go solo. He's been to the island a few times before on vacation but interestingly enough he took a DNA test and found distant blood relatives of his in Bermuda. It was big news. He now has an official home here, has donated money to local causes and now he's opening his own company. Everyone loved him. He might as well be the mayor.

So that is why this is such a big deal. To every creative on the island.

"Alright Sunny, bring in our first contestant," Christopher said with a beaming smile. He couldn't help it; this was big for him too. A girl walked in with a big number 1 taped to her top. "What's your name?" he asked her.

"Yvette," she said shyly, once she saw what she had just walked into, she wanted to run.

"Nice to meet you, Yvette, how does it feel being number 1?"

"Huh?" she asked and then caught it late. "Oh, it feels great, I've been waiting outside for a full 24 hours now."

"Oh, that was you?" Christopher asked her. "I'll make a note of how determined you are. So, what will you be doing for us today?" he asked as someone wheeled over a grand piano.

"Oh no, I don't need that," she said to them. "I'm not a musician." The judging panel looked at her in confusion. "I'm a graphic designer. I just graduated and desperately want to work in my field you know? I can design anything, your websites, album covers, posters-" she said as she approached the judging panel's table. They didn't notice the iPad she had under her arm. She opened it to show them a design.

"Next!" a woman who sat next to Christopher said. "We're trying to make a band, solo artist, or both. This ain't a job fair" she said as she waved her off.

"I'm....I'm sorry," Yvette said as a man from security approached her. Before she stepped back, she gave Christopher her card. "That's how you can reach me. Day or night."

"This is how this day is starting? That's not a good sign" the woman next to him said once Yvette was escorted out.

"Hey, look I got her card. You need a lotta spunk to do that, Simone. She's smart. She wouldn't have gotten me to see it any other way" he said as he glanced at the card, he slid the paper to his assistant, Allegra. "Staple that and start a pile."

"Next! We ain't got all day" Simone said. Sunny opened the door and number 2 walked straight to the piano and sat down. "Oh, thank God," she said when she saw them. An actual musician.

This was going to be a long day.

*

Aquarius is the fixed air sign of the zodiac. It can be likened to a paraglider jumping off the earth to explore a rainbow, yet aware of the practicalities of thermals and how to ensure a safe landing.

*

"Girl get up," Aquarius Simmons said as she shrugged her shoulder. Her best friend, Nadia Baines, was napping on it. She snapped to attention. "We're almost up."

"What? How? I still see like 50 people still in line right now" Nadia yawned and stretched. She looked at her black leather watch. "How long have I been asleep?"

"I don't know-"

"Why'd you let me sleep? Now I gotta warm up my voice again."

"Vocal rest is a great idea right now. You were complaining about being tired since we got here."

"Aren't you?"

"I'm more nervous than tired." Aquarius couldn't sleep at all last night, and who knows if she'll sleep tonight either.

"112!" a girl said once she and the performer who just auditioned walked out. This performer didn't look so happy either. A lot of them were leaving with frowns and even tears rolling down their faces. She hasn't seen a smile walk out in a while.

Maybe this was the place where dreams didn't come true.

"112?" Nadia said, she looked down at her number even though she knew what number she was. She was 126. Aquarius was 125. "Shit, why you let me sleep so long?"

"Cuz you were talking so damn much and making me nervous. It's too early for all that."

"Says the chick who talked my ear off all last night."

"I couldn't sleep."

"And I didn't either" Nadia sighed and looked at the table to her left. "Damn that wasn't there before." A big breakfast buffet table was set up. It had everything you could ever want for breakfast. Cereals, coffee, teas, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, the works. If you wanted it, they had it. "I'ma get some tea and maybe a bagel or something. Don't tell me you ate already."

"How with you on my shoulder?" Aquarius chuckled, "Besides, I can't eat until we're done with this. I'm gonna throw up."

Nadia looked at her friend, concerned, she's never seen her this nervous. They perform with each other all the time and she was never nervous.

But this was different.

"You take your pill?" Nadia asked her and Aquarius stared at her with wide eyes, "What?"

"You wanna say it loud enough for everyone to hear?"

"Girl chillax, everyone in here has anxiety," Nadia said, "And if they didn't before they do now," she said as she looked around and peeped a girl sobbing into her phone. Mascara and snot on her face. "Look, nervous breakdown at 3 o'clock," she said with a slight nod of her head. Aquarius glanced and quickly looked away.

"That's what I'm trying not to be," Aquarius said as she adjusted herself in her seat and crossed her arms. Nadia gave up, made some breakfast, and decided to make a cup of tea for Aquarius. She was pale as hell. They couldn't be rock stars with stage fright. It was impossible to be both. She popped the bagel full of cream cheese in her mouth, picked up the two teas, and sat next to her. "Ummph," she nudged her.

"113!"

They both glanced up and saw 112 saunter out of the audition room. He was hard to read. If he was ecstatic or got good news you wouldn't know it. "Here," Nadia said, "It's some positive energy tea or some shit. I put a load of honey in it."

"Thanks," Aquarius said as she took the warm Styrofoam cup from her. She blew on the steamy drink, the last thing she needed was to burn her mouth on it. Once it cooled down enough for her liking, they were next in line. It went by so quickly.

"Ready?" Nadia asked as she grabbed Aquarius' other hand. "I know it's easier said than done, but you're going to be fine. We're gonna strut in there and you're going to be in your fucking element and we're going to blow them away. Pretend they're not even there." Aquarius took a few deep breaths and nodded. She was thankful and grateful she was doing this with her best friend. She took a sip of her tea and savored the warmth soothing her throat and vocal cords.

"125!" the girl at the door said as she and 124 walked out.

"That's me, but we're a duo," Aquarius said as she gestured to Nadia next to her.

Sunny paused, "Ok."

"Don't make eye contact with the lady with the glasses. She's a devil in a blue dress" 124 said and stormed off. That was the last thing Aquarius needed to hear.

"If you couldn't guess, his audition didn't go too well," Sunny said to them and Nadia cackled. Sunny peeked into the room and then it was showtime.

"Let's go," Nadia said as she picked up her small guitar amp and walked in. Aquarius follows right behind her.

This was it.

*

Air represents the mind and the ability to think; Aquarian ideas may be unusual or even original but once formed, they tend to remain fixed.

*

"Huh, a 2 for 1. That's the smartest thing I've seen today," Simone said as she picked a piece of lint off of her blue dress as two girls walked in. Chris sat up in his seat, this was the first duo ever so he was interested in seeing what they could do. The cute girl with the banged haircut had a guitar and a small amp and right behind her came...

A supermodel. She was beautiful. He couldn't take his eyes off her. He hoped she wasn't an actual model; he wasn't opening the modeling part of his agency yet. If she could sing, she'd be perfect. Please be able to sing. They've seen literally 124 people and none of them had IT. Simone hated them all.

The model stood on the mark and the girl with the guitar stood next to her. She plugged her guitar into the amp and some loud scratchy feedback came out of the speaker.

"Shit sorry," Nadia said. Aquarius gulped; she needed more tea. Her throat was dry as hell. Shit.

"So, a duo huh? What should we call you? Tia and Tamera?" Simone asked them with a sly smile.

"We're a duo, yeah but we don't have a group name just yet," Nadia answered for them both. She glanced over at Aquarius, and she was still pale. She didn't look at the devil in the blue dress at all, who was talking to them now. Just straight ahead.

Come on girl, wake up.

There was an awkward silence for a few seconds because Chris was too busy staring at the supermodel in front of him. Simone looked at him, rolled her eyes, and nudged him in his side. "Earth to Chris," she said in an annoyed tone as she glanced at 125. She noticed him gawking at her. She rolled her eyes.

"I'm sorry, what are your names again?" Chris asked as he shook himself out of his daydream and sat up in his seat.

"Nadia," the girl with the guitar said simply.

"I'm Aquarius," the supermodel said softly.

Chris's eyes widened. "That's your stage name," Simone concluded.

"No, it's on her birth certificate," Nadia said.

"That's a beautiful name," Chris said. Perfect for a pop star.

"Thank you," Aquarius said as she tugged on her skirt. She usually didn't care but now that she saw the way the devil in the blue dress was looking at her it had to be too short.

"Alright, let's get on with it," Simone said with another roll of her eyes as she noticed Chris continue to eye fuck Aquarius. "Let's hear it," she said as she kicked Chris under the table to make him snap out of it. He snapped to attention and glared at her. 'Pay attention perv' she mouthed to him.

Nadia smiled at Aquarius and nodded her head, giving her the cue. Aquarius smiled nervously back, but she was frozen.

No, girl, please don't do this. Not today.

Nadia made the split decision to wake her ass up. She then played an awesome guitar riff which made everyone look at her and not stare down Aquarius. When she was done, she looked at Aquarius pleadingly...

And then thankfully, Aquarius took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and sang, "Can anybody find meeeee somebody tooo love."

Everyone looked back over at Aquarius as Chris sat up in his seat as she sang Queen's 'Somebody To Love", which was a bold move. Nadia harmonized and accompanied her. He smiled and sighed with relief. The supermodel could sing, could really sing. They performed the first verse and the chorus and started the second verse when all of a sudden, Nadia stopped playing. Chris looked at her with surprise, he could listen to them all day.

"Thank you that's all we need," Simone said as she put her hand down and passed her papers to him. He gave her a look. Why did she stop them? He wanted to hear more. They heard enough but he still wanted to hear more.

"What are you doing?" he said to her.

"We have 10,000 more people outside. We need to keep it moving."

He rolled his eyes, sadly she was right. He smiled at Nadia and Aquarius, "That was beautiful ladies, we'll be in touch" he said to them, and Aquarius flashed him a beautiful smile, looking more confident and beautiful. Damn.

"Thank you-" they both said.

"We MAY be in touch" Simone interjected, "Don't call us, we'll call you." Aquarius's smile disappeared as Chris scowled at her. "Come on chop chop, let's bring the next person in," she said to Sunny as she shuffled through her paperwork.

"What the hell was that?" he asked Simone as he watched the two girls walk out. He couldn't take his eyes off them until the door closed behind them. "I tell them when we have heard enough-"

"We don't have time to hear full-length songs and guitar solos. Besides, you need to snap out of it. We have 10,000 people waiting and I would like to get this over with."

"I told you to be prepared to be here all day, you got somewhere else to be?"

"Bed," Simone said. "Weren't you the one who said we can tell who has IT after the first 8 bars and not to waste any time? They were in here entirely too long, partly because of Aquarium's stage fright. I'm just doing my job, as usual, which is to keep your ass on track. If I didn't say anything, they would have put on a whole concert so you can drool over the girl, and you weren't even subtle about it."

"Her name is Aquarius," Chris corrected her. "Sounds like some hateration to me or-"

"Never" Simone scoffed and looked over at Sunny, "What's the holdup-" but then immediately stopped when a whole band came in.

"From now on and always, I'm calling the shots. If I want a whole concert from someone, you will sit through and listen to it. I'm paying you thousands to do so. If you have a problem with that, go ahead and go back to your precious hotel and go to bed."

Simone scoffed and rolled her eyes as Chris passed his papers to his assistant and greeted the band. It would only be a long day if she made it so.

Outside, Aquarius was freaking out over the 'devil in a blue dress.' "I'm so sorry friend, I ruined it for the both of us," she said as she and Nadia walked out of the building.

"What are you talking about? You sounded great-"

"YOU sounded great, like that guitar solo, where did that come from?"

"It was the time to show off."

"You were making up for my mistakes, I could tell. I'm sorry, I was just really nervous, I don't know what came over me. Whoever that lady is was Simon Cowell in a dress."

"Don't let her get to you. Look this is Christopher Westwood's company, not what's her name's, she probably has no say but thinks she does. He makes the final decision and you know what he said? He said, 'We'll be in touch.' That's got to mean something right? We did it."

"You think so?"

"I know so," Nadia said as she put her arm around Aquarius's shoulders and held her close. "I have a good feeling about this. Now let's get something to eat."

*

Fixed air, in brief, is a metaphor for fixed opinions.

*

"Now what the hell do we have here," Simone said as a tall girl with cotton candy pink hair wearing a matching pink lingerie top, black latex skort and pink platforms strutted into the room. Chris's eyebrows raised as he saw her. She was something else already but what was more surprising was someone helping her by wheeling in a hot pink drum set. She thanked the guy and used the piano bench as a stool to sit on.

"Wait can you stand up please and come forward?" Chris asked her as he looked down at her paperwork. "Janiah Renee, did I say that right?"

"Almost. JUH-NY-UH."

"Sorry about that, Janiah. And I assume you will be playing drums for us today?"

"Yessir."

"How long have you been playing?"

"Since high school, so since I was 14. I just turned 24 in February."

"You've been playing for 10 years?"

"Well, I started off playing snare and a few years later I started on the whole set."

"Well please, show us what you can do," Christopher said excitedly. He hasn't been this immediately invested in someone since the beautiful Aquarius walked in. Once Janiah played her drum solo, he was sold after the first 30 seconds. Simone was thankful for that. "That was amazing, Janiah," he said as everyone clapped. Except for Simone, who had a tight smile. "It says here that you rap and sing as well?"

"Yessir, you want me to spit something really quick?"

"Please," he said with an excited smirk.

Janiah started to sway back and forth, whined her hips, and then: "I got a stank ass walk and a reckless ass mouth. And my shit so tight, when we fuck, my pussy talk-"

"Ok, that's enough!" Simone interrupted but Janiah thankfully ignored her as she squatted on the floor, started twerking, and thrusting her hips front to back. Her ass was so big you couldn't ignore it.

Janiah continued to rap louder, intentionally ignoring Simone. Everyone else loved the show she was putting on, she couldn't stop now. SHE WAS JUST GETTING STARTED.

"I DON'T EVEN SAY WHAT'S UP, I JUST TELL HIM WHAT I WANT. CAUSE I GOT ANOTHER NIGGA THAT'S GON' DO IT IF HE DON'T. AH!"

By this time, security was hyping her up and one guy even got so excited that he threw a couple of dollar bills at her. Janiah enjoyed it as she stuck her tongue out, winked, and smiled. Simone kicked Christopher under the table again. He had seen enough too but the show was too good to stop. This girl was something else but what she definitely was, was a star! He only stopped because security started to forget their role. He had to stand up and clap for Janiah to make them all realize he heard enough. She stood up and took a bow as they all applauded. Except for Simone of course.

"That was amazing!" Christopher said to her and he wasn't lying. "I've been around a lot of rappers in my day, worked with the best, and Janiah, you definitely have what it takes." Janiah smiled widely as she picked up the dollar bills and stuffed them in her top.

Simone rolled her eyes, could this girl be any more shameless and slutty? What's worse was that Chris was eating out of the palm of her hand.

"So are you saying I won? I got it?" Janiah asked excitedly.

"DEFINITELY not. What he's trying to say is we won't make any decisions for a few days so we may be in touch," Simone said as she stood up and everyone in the room calmed down. "Thanks for your striptease," she said cattily.

Janiah gave her a huge, fake smile and looked right at her and only her. "It was my pleasure." She then stuck out her tongue and said, "Ah!" She then looked at Christopher and only at him. "Thank you so much for the opportunity. Seriously."

"One question, you have an American accent, where are you from?"

"Houston baby," Janiah said proudly.

"What are you doing all the way out here?"

"It's a long story, I hope you get in touch with me and I can tell you all about it."

"Ok, next! Sunny, bring the next person in. IMMEDIATELY!" Simone said. Janiah sneered at her and then went over to the guy who helped her wheel her drum set in. As they wheeled it out, the security guys were all over Janiah, asking for her number.

"My Instagram is JaniahStallion" she said and blew them a kiss.

"Fellas!" Christopher warned them and they let Janiah go and tried to calm themselves down. He didn't want to have to fire them but damn, he was going to need security for his security. But if Janiah could make a small room of people go that crazy, he had to sign her. Was she the one?

*

Aquarian's spiritual goal is to learn how to develop true self-confidence.

*

"Yo, that was fire! I wasn't expecting you to go so hard like that!" the guy said as he followed Janiah out of the building, dragging her drum set on the wheeled platform behind him.

"Yeah everyone underestimates my ass until I shut 'em up," Janiah said with a smile. She had a good feeling about this. Did she completely nail it? Was she finally going to be a signed artist? "Thank you for helping me out. I usually do this shit myself but I had to show out, you feel me?" she said as she did a little spin. He didn't mind, he enjoyed the view. She had to pull out all the stops and put on her best and most jaw dropping outfit for THE Christopher Westwood.

"So where we headed now? I bet you want to take this set back to your place?" the guy said as he smirked at her.

"We?" she asked him.

"You owe me remember? You said if I helped you with the drum set, you would let me take you out. So when do you want to do this date? This weekend? Or we can go straight to your place right now."

"You won't be setting foot in my spot," she said but he was right. A deal was a deal. Damn it. "Let's pack this shit up, can we leave it in your cab?" she asked as she looked around and saw a bar on the corner.

"I don't see why not."

"Good, you can take me to that bar over there," she said. She had to get this shit over with now.

"Whew I wonder how the next person is going to follow that," Christopher said as he settled back in his seat. Once Janiah left, they all took a 5-minute break. He had a quick bite and threw out paperwork from the performers who didn't make the cut.

"After the twerking drummer? If they have some class and talent, they'll be just fine. All she was was a loud, hot pink distraction."

"What is your deal? You didn't like Janiah either?"

"What was there to like? She's a video hoe. Those are a dime a dozen. We've already seen others like her already."

"There was no one here who was even close to being anything like her. She's one of a kind."

"I can't believe you are going so hard for this girl. Oh yeah, that's right, because she basically showed her whole ass and titties, that's why. I know sex sells but come on Chris, you're a fucking cliche" Simone said to him. Usually, that would piss him off but he didn't have the time for Simone's snobbery. Yeah Janiah had ass and tits but those were just a bonus, she had talent. In fact, she was multitalented.

He ignored her, "Let's bring in the next one."

"Thank you," Simone said.

Two skinny kids walked in. One looked like Justin Bieber, but he was dressed like he was going to be in an Elton John biopic and the other was a beautiful girl who looked like Lisa Bonet. Justin Bieber didn't have a number on him and he stood in the back. Oh, he must be here for moral support. Probably a boyfriend. Or poor fella was completely friend-zoned. The girl walked to the mark on the floor. She had a bass guitar over her shoulder. She had on a lacey top, baggy khaki's, and some old beat-up Chuck Taylor's, her long dark hair was in braids. A complete opposite of what they just saw. Janiah was all latex and sex appeal. This girl looked like she just came from Woodstock. She had no makeup on but she didn't need it. Also a big contrast from Janiah's expertly baked face. Allegra passed him her paperwork.

"Amethyst?" he asked her and she nodded. "That's an interesting name. Beautiful name. This island is full of beautiful women with beautiful names."

"Thank you," Amethyst said shyly in a soft voice. "My mom named me after her favorite gemstone, she's very much into crystals and she taught me everything I know about them. Amethyst is used for protection, concentration, and confidence."

"Great, what will you be doing for us today?" Simone asked, getting quickly to the point. Chris inwardly sighed.

"I'm a bass player," she said as she hooked up her guitar to the amp they had provided.

"Whenever you're ready because we are," Simone said and Amethyst nodded. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in and out. Then another. As she did so, the room started to fill with an aura that was calm and soothing. Chris leaned back in his seat and as Amethyst played, he closed his eyes and listened. He felt like he was in a meditative state almost. He felt so relaxed that he could fall asleep but in a good way. "Great, can you sing? Any other talents?" Simone asked as soon as she finished, bringing Chris back to the present. He opened his eyes.

"Um I don't really sing-"

"Yes, she can" Justin Bieber piped up. Amethyst turned to him and he gave her a look.

"Which is it?" Simone asked impatiently.

"I-. Um."

"Do the song you wrote, Am-Bam" Justin Bieber said to her.

"Sir please," Simone said to him and he quickly shut up. "Well if that's it then-"

"Ok, I can sing for you a song I've been writing," Amethyst said shyly. She took in a couple more deep breaths which annoyed Simone. She started to sing and play. Her voice was like an angel. Soft and serene. Very indie soft rock. She stopped before Simone did which she appreciated.

"Good, we may be in touch," Simone said. "Next!"

"Thank you" Amethyst said in a soft voice. Chris winked at her and she smiled at him. Justin Bieber also thanked them and they both walked out. Once they did, Simone threw away Amethyst's paperwork.

"Seriously? What was wrong with her?"

"She's obviously just a musician. You can tell she doesn't like to sing. She's a one-trick pony with a soft voice. Too soft. Too shy."

"The greatest entertainers were shy and she's not a one-trick pony, she's also a songwriter. She has a beautiful voice, like an angel, she was very calming-"

"Yeah, I was about to fall asleep. That's not a good thing."

Chris dropped it as the next performer walked in. Something told him not to throw away her paperwork. She wasn't loud and flashy like Janiah, she couldn't really belt or had fine legs for days like Aquarius but she was soft and special in her own way.

Something was telling him not to count her out just yet.

However, Amethyst felt differently. "I fucked it up," she said as tears rolled down her face. "They already forgot about me, they're not going to call. I blew it." They walked outside and she reached into her bag and got out a pack of cigarettes. She was trying to quit but today was pretty stressful. She could cheat today. She felt him staring at her. "Leave me alone Henri."

"You said you quit."

"I did quit. I quit. I'm just cheating right now, just for right now."

"Baby, you sounded beautiful in there. Are you kidding me? Could you not hear yourself?" Henri asked her as he wiped her tears.

"Not really. My heart was beating so loud that it was in my ears. I could barely hear myself."

"I know it was but you played and sounded beautiful."

"I can't believe you brought up that I could sing. I don't sing."

"But you can, and you knocked it out of the park."

"They looked bored."

"You didn't see the look on Christopher Westwood's face? You basically put him in a trance. He couldn't stop smiling. He was impressed, I could tell."

"You're just saying that. You have to say that, that's your job."

"Hey being your boyfriend is hardly and has never been or felt like a job," he said to her and smiled. She finally smiled through her tears. "There's that beautiful smile. My beautiful Am-Bam." He leaned in and kissed her, not caring that her lips tasted like cigarettes. She kissed him back and held him close. "I love you," he said once he pulled away and nuzzled his face into her long hair, and inhaled.

"I love you too," she said. She put out the cigarette and inhaled the salty sea breeze. "I don't need to be a rock star anyway. I have you. We're going to have our own little place on the beach and have a bunch of babies. That's my dream" she said to him with a smile. He gave her a quick peck on the lips.

"It's mine too," he said to her with a sigh of relief. Oh, how much he loved this girl.

Inside anyone who has strong Aquarian influences is a person who is extremely uncertain of his or her true identity.
