Hours before:
Fiona sat trembling on the floor of the kitchen. She wasn't hungry, nor cold, nor bored. She was scared. She needed someone there with her, she needed... Zoey.
Lewis wouldn't answer, Probably just busy with Hannah. Fiona forced herself to think.
Her phone.
That stupid, repetitive ringtone rang out again, for one last time.
Immediately, Fiona scrambled to her feet, cliping her hip on the corner of the counter. Ignoring the sting, she fumbled Zoey's phone in her hands, remembering her long list of texts she had hurredly sent to Lewis.
An unknown number? She didn't care. Any chance of reaching Zoey was something.
"Umm..." She swallowed hard, casting her eyes around the room, panicked. "Who is this?"
"Fifi!" A tinny voice squealed, followed by a long, relieved sigh.
Fiona breathed, like she hadn't breathed for the past hours. Her immense feeling of relief was... indescribable. "Zoey..." She sighed, smiling as much as possible and rubbing her hand across her sweaty face. Zoey's voice may have sounded crappy due to her having to use a phone box, but it didn't matter.
"Fifi, I'm okay! I promise! Remeber, I shouted through Lewis' phone!"
"Zoey... Just... Please, Come home." She laughed slightly, keeping her fairly serious tone.
"Um, about that. I need a ride babe." Zoey bit her lip, laughing almost nervously.
Fiona scraped her hand across the marble counter and grasped her keys. "Saint Michael's hospital?"
"Mhm."
"Okay, stay safe. I'll be there soon, I love you... And... We need to talk about why you were out by yourself this morning when you get back." Fiona bit her thumb, pacing towards the door.
"...Okay. And, can you hurry up. There's a weird guy wondering around the car park here in baggy clothes and stuff and he looks real sad and angry."
"Okay Zoey..."
Fiona quickly picked her up in her bad car, hugging her tightly and protectively and almost crying at the sight of her. Confused, Zoey quickly hopped in the car with her and carried on home. Their relief beyond words.
Fiona placed her keys back onto the coffee table, letting herself drop onto the sofa next to an anxious Zoey. Nervously, Zoey fidgeted around in her seat, focusing her gaze away from Fiona and on the TV.
"...Zoey?" Fiona whispered, placing her hand of Zoey's that led deathly still by her side and suppressing a sigh.
"Hm?" Zoey mumbled, masking her anxiety and not moving her gaze.
"Zoey, w-why were you out without telling me?" Fiona swallowed hard. Zoey sat frozen, not responding. The air became tense and the TV barely drowned out Zoey's heavy breathing. "Zoey?"
"Fiona, I love you, you know?" Zoey whispered.
"Of course, I love you too babe. And I-I'm worried. Please, tell me." She grapsed both Zoey's shaking hands, pulling her towards her. Hesitantly, Zoey pulled away from the TV and met her worried girlfriend's eyes. She smiled at her sympatheticly, rubbing her hand with her thumb.
"Fifi I... I did it again." Immediately, Zoey's mind raced, a lump stuck in her throat as a feeling of insecurity rushed through her. What would she think? She'd call her weak? Think she was too much trouble for her? Call her reasons stupid? Laugh maybe? "And I couldn't bare for you to wake up and see me like that."
"You... You did what again Zozo?" Fiona furrowed her brow, her eyes watering slightly. She knew, she just didn't want it to be true.
"I... I..." Zoey began, bowing her head in shame and clutching her right wrist. Before she could finish, Fiona leant forward, hugging her tightly and pressing Zoey against her. She let Zoey's head fall over shoulder as she sobbed into her back. She held her closely, stroking her soft, brown hair. "I'm so sorry Fifi..." She cried, sniffling and pushing her head into Fiona to cover her shame filled face. "I'm sorry, I couldn't stop myself from... from hurting myself again."
"Don't be sorry Zozo." Fiona attempted to sooth, a tear rolling down her cheek. "It's all going to be okay one day and it may be bad right now but that doesn't make it your fault." She inhaled, her voice shaking. "So please... Don't be."
