Sophie's POV
"Sonya! Turn your music down!" I yell at my roommate.
"Make me!" She yells back at me.
Yes, we may be 19 and 20 years old, but we are still kids at heart. I'm sure she stuck her tongue out when she yelled at me. Sonya and I are complete opposites. Even our skin color.
I jump off my bed and run through the apartment. I stop in front of her huge stereo system in our living room and turn the music down.
She crosses her arms and huffs as she sits on the couch with her boyfriend.
"I know what you are trying to do," I say to her and cross my arms. "You know the rules when your boyfriend comes over. Nothing more than kissing and if you want to, then leave our apartment."
She rolls her eyes. "I need to get you a boyfriend, so I can yell at you two."
This time, I roll my eyes at her.
"Hey, you know that you like me," she grins.
I roll my eyes again and leave the room. I enter my room and collapse on my bed. I grab my phone and snuggle under my covers.
It's not night time, but my room is really dark, because I have the blackout curtains. It is only 4 in the afternoon.
College homework or Angry Birds? Angry Birds!
The app opens up and I immediately start getting into the game. Weird noices and motions, the works.
My bedroom door suddenly flies open and I hide my phone underneath me. I sit straight up and try to act normal.
"Sophie, we are going to go out for dinner and to walk around. Do you want us to bring you back something?"
I've made that mistake before and it isn't going to happen again. "No, you two go have fun. I'll find something."
"Okay. I'll text you when I'm on my way home."
"Sounds good," I grin.
She waves and exits my bedroom.
Back to Angry Birds.
I press the button to unlock my phone and see I have a message. I have a Samsung and it won't tell you who or what the message is. Sometimes I really don't like Samsungs, but I'm not about to get a $1,000 IPhone.
Who could it be from? No one texts me, except Sonya. Why would she text me when she literally just left my room.
I click on the message and unlock my phone.
Wanna come to the gym with me?
The gym? Um no. Actually I really do need to get in shape. Obviously this is the wrong number..... I could mess with them. I don't have any excitement in my life. Why not?
I would, but...
But?
Hmm. What should I say? Google will give me the answer.
I switch apps and go to Google. I type in excuses for not going out.
I'm attempting to make a fort
I quickly run to my living room and start 'making a fort'. I can't lie. Google told me not to.
Sounds like fun can I come over? Forget the gym!
Crap, what do I say now? I guess I'll just tell them the truth..
I don't think you know where I live. At least I hope you don't
Of course I know where you live we are bros
...I'm a girl
Umm
Ohh
I'm so sorry
I thought this was my friend
No problem at all
You just made my day a little more exciting
I did?
Yeah no one texts me except my roommate
No boyfriend?
Nope
Girlfriend?
I wish lol
I smile at my phone and shake my head. No feelings.
My screen lights up to indicate someone is calling me. I answer it without a second thought and walk towards the small kitchen.
No one says anything.
"Hello?"
"How's my little girl doing?"
"Good. How's my daddy doing?"
"Good."
"What have you been doing today?"
"Nothing. I've been lazy."
"I doubt that, Dad."
"How's college going?"
"Eh. It's okay, I guess."
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah."
"I miss you, Sophie."
Tears come to my eyes and I can't help when they fall. "I miss you too," I whisper.
"Do you think you could come down this weekend? Your brother will be here too."
"I think I can. I really want to."
"I'll be looking forward to it."
"Me too."
"I love you, honey."
"I love you, Dad."
