9. Hello there stranger!
21st August 2016
Prompt from http://www.writersdigest.com- For today's prompt, write a napkin poem. It could be a poem about a napkin or that involves napkins, but the original thought for this was a kind of poem would be a poem that might be scrawled onto a napkin in a rush-or maybe even slipped across (or under) the table...
The same cafe and the beige coloured booth.
The bittersweet coffee and a chocolate muffin.
Sticking to the safety of familiarity,
I could watch the world from my bubble of silence.
Smiling faces and hands waving in greeting.
Softies, shared treats and the laughter of a weekemd.
Yet there in a corner I spotted a loner.
Hands twirling the straw, cheesecake long forgotten.
Green eyes distant and bloodshot.
The perfect image of sad and lost.
Many passed by, no one stayed to say, "Hi!"
Something about him tugged at my heart.
Yet what can I do, I can't even speak?
The last drop of coffee was always the sweetest.
Hands snatched a napkin and a pen from the backpack.
What was there to lose, it was just a few words?
"Anything that went wrong, can be made right"
Blue ink across the soft white, not bad.
Why my hands trembled, as I passed the note?
Well it was time to go, can't stick around.
Read, crumbled and thrown, was that it?
Or had he smiled and read it again?
Could he have called out, for I wouldn't know?
Let it be a mystery, it was time to go now.
Well that was that. This one was different right, but was it a good different or bad different?
