53. Absurd?
4th October 2016.
Prompt- 'The myth of Sisyphus' from my cousin.
He was the king who captured death.
Freeing the world of it's ultimate fear.
Yet he was punished with a task most futile
And the gods and humans mocked him, alike.
Who are we to deride King Sisyphus ?
For we are the ones who seek an inexistent purpose.
Do we need a purpose and reason to live?
Why life cannot be it's own ulterior motive?
Rolling a stone up the hill and letting it fall,
An absurd alliteration for eternity.
Yet it relieved him of the burden of hope,
Of this falacy of defining the world with reason.
And if we remove the blindfolds of prejudice,
Maybe we can see him in a different light
As a being who embraced life in its true candor,
Without entangling it in the complex webs of hope.
When I was given this prompt, I did not know whether he meant the actual tale or an essay by Camus. This is from both. Late again, I know.
