Why CGI isn't as Amazing as it once was.
So rebeltaxi made a video today explaining why 2D animated movies are so rare now, I'll put the video at the end of this Journal entry. Anyway he pointed out that 2D Animated movies are rare now because of the fact that these companies over saturated the movie going public with CGI animated movies.
Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks are prime examples why about a good hunk of animated movies per year are CGI.
Now in the 2000's 99% of 2D movies were just tv show based movies, Rugrats was the first offender. Now all these were just movie length versions of normal episodes which would be been much easier to wait for it to air on HBO. Even the Simpsons made a joke about that, twice, once on the show and another time in their own Movie which was released 10 years ago, and I have seen so many times it lost all meaning to me.
But that wasn't the end of 2D movies as a little company you may have never heard of called Pixar broke standards.
Especially since they weren't the only CGI movie making company in the universe, with DreamWorks making big bank off Franchises like Madagascar, KungFu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Trolls, and Shrek just to name the only successful ones they made.
Disney unfortnately was still sticking to they're roots until 2004 when their supposably last 2D Movie "Home on The Range," which was a meh movie as its one of those movies Disney no longer recognizes. Then in 2006, Disney decided to go full CGI as they made some movies, one of them I really hate which is Chicken Little which was stupid, then the Wild which was just a Madagascar Ripoff, Meet the Robinsons, a movie in alright with, and Bolt, I actually liked this movie.
Now I know your going to say, Xander you forgot 2009's Princess and The Frog that was 2D...wrong I'm getting to that.
Now Princess and The Frog was a good movie but it didn't make a lot of money because, well five days later this came out:
Oops!
That and the fact it had princess in the name everyone was like eh...No thanks.
Because of that they had to rename the next movie from Repunzel to my number 5 favorite Disney Movie, Tangled.
Disney tried again with 2D one last time 2011 with Winnie the Pooh, which didn't make enough bank because it was one of those just for little kids movies...They forgot some teens like Pooh Bear too.
Then after that it was all CGI all the time.
Now as we are literally 2 days from the 3rd CGI this month, Despicable Me 3, we no longer find CG that cool anymore.
Wonder why I said that, well lets go back to 2001 when the first Oscar for Outstanding Animated Feature was introduced:
·Shrek
·Jimmy Neutron
·Monsters Inc.
Back then we only had 1 or 2 per year. Now its per month, in fact here's a handful of the 52 CGI movies that have been or will be released:
Lego Batman
Boss Baby
Smurfs: The Lost Village
Captain Underpants
Cars 3
Despicable Me 3
The Emoji Movie: aka Garbage the movie
Ferdinand
Coco
Lego Ninjago
Punch Justin Bieber in 3D
Okay I made that last one up but you get the point, 52 CG movies, wow for real man.
Honestly Disney should go back to 2D movies, hell most of their movies start off as 2D in the beginning production. Even their newest movie Moana started in 2D.
Disney is also capitalizibg on nostalgia with the live action remakes of animated movies, look at beauty and the beast. I think a great way to capitalize on it is by doing a New 2D movie in this decade because CG is now a standard. Its no longer special.
Now watch rebeltaxi's on this for more info:
Yeah, basically someone tell Disney make a new 2D animated movie.
Do you guys agree with me on this tell me in the comments and I will see you later.
