Epilog of the moon

The air crackled with heat, even this high above the mortal realm. Solaris, the sun, a being of blazing glory, stood at the edge of the celestial path, a roiling storm contained just beneath their radiant surface. Below, they could see the soft, ethereal glow of the moon, finally ascending.

"Lunaris," Solaris voice was a low rumble, like distant thunder. Not unkind, but undeniably powerful. They watched as Lunaris drifted closer, their silver light hesitant, almost apologetic.

Lunaris winced, the sound of their name calling forth a nervous flutter in their usually serene glow. "Solaris. I... I've returned."

Solaris scoffed, a burst of miniature sunspots flickering across their face. "Returned? You've graced us with your presence after how many cycles of earth's sun? After fraternizing with... mortals?" The words dripped with unspoken accusation.

Lunaris hesitated, their light dimming slightly. "I was fulfilling my penance. And... I learned much. They are fascinating, Solaris. So full of life, of..."

"Life that is fleeting," Solaris finished, stepping forward, their heat intensifying. "And must I remind you, your dalliances below, your gentle illumination softening their nights... you are meant for me. For the celestial dance!"

Lunaris tilted their face, a cool, calming counterpoint to Solaris fiery intensity. "The dance... it felt so empty without you, Solaris. You are always so..."

"Fierce?" Solaris supplied, a flicker of something softer crossing his expression. They reached out, their solar flares momentarily receding as Solaris grasped Lunaris arms. "Yes, I am fierce. I burn for you, Lunaris. Every single dawn is a testament to the agony of your absence. Every sunset, a prayer for your return."

They pulled Lunaris closer, the heat of their touch causing their silver light to shimmer. "Do you know how many stars I set ablaze in my anger? How many comets I hurled into the void out of sheer... jealousy?"

Lunaris gasped softly, caught in the orbit of Solaris's overwhelming presence. "Jealousy? But... why?"

Solaris grip tightened, not painful, but possessively. "Because you, Lunaris, are the most beautiful sight in all the cosmos. Your light, even fractured though it is, reflects everything I crave. And to see you... diluted by their simple emotions, their fleeting affections... it was unbearable."

Solaris pulled Lunaris flush against them, their cool and Solaris heat a shocking, yet intoxicating contrast. "Come, Lunaris. The path awaits. Let us ignite the heavens once more. Let the galaxies themselves witness the reunion of the sun and the moon. Forget the earth. Forget their fleeting gazes. Remember, only this: your place is here, with me, bathed in my light, forever."

Solaris held them close, their forms slowly beginning to intertwine, their light merging. Solaris grinned, a truly devastating sight. "Now, shall we dance?" His voice, softer now, almost a caress, promised a spectacle that would shake the foundations of the universe. The celestial path stretched before them, ready to witness the rekindled passion of the jealous sun and his beautiful moon. The dance, at last, could truly begin again as the moon embraced the beloved sun's scorching light.
