(8) The Inevitable

Millie~

It had been over a month since we broke into the Wright's house and personalised it. It had been a triumph and all of us were extremely proud of our effort. However that didn't mean we weren't expecting something in return. This 'something' never came, and still hasn't. We should have been celebrating our victory but instead we looking over our shoulder every couple of steps in an extremely paranoid fashion. My eyes flickered to the doorway unconsciously as we all sat down to dinner. Damn the Wright's, why did I have that stupid idea to prank them?

Someone tapped me on the shoulder and I almost jumped a mile out of my seat. Wow, I am paranoid. Todd, who had tapped me on the shoulder, gave me a sympathetic look since we all shared the same paranoia.

"You have all been extremely edgy lately," my mother remarked, giving us all pointed looks.

Jace shot me a glare, to which my eyes narrowed. It wasn't my fault Todd had touched me without warning when I was clearly out of it! I stabbed my fork into my food and quickly excused myself from the table quickly, along with the others.

"You have to be more careful in front of them, Mill, they have no idea remember," Jace reprimanded as we walked to the games room. Sometimes he managed to take the 'I'm the oldest' job way too far and began talking to me as if I was seven, not seventeen.

"You think I don't know that?!" I shot back folding my arms across my chest defensively and shooting him a glare.

"I actually wish they would just do something," Tom commented, shaking his head in despair and I sighed, rubbing my forehead.

After entering the games room and deciding on the games to play we all settled down. I felt too on edge to start playing COD or anything that included people and things jumping out on you, so I pulled out my earphones and phone and listened to some music. I grabbed a random magazine that sat on the nearby table and began flicking through it. When my parents, uncles and aunts entered the room I pulled out my earphones and put my magazine down.

"We're going out tonight and we will be back at about midnight," my dad told us, to which we all nodded and called out our goodbyes as they left.

After scrolling through the music on my phone I couldn't find a certain song so I started up to my room to get my iPod. Before I reached the stairs I removed my heels which I had been wearing all day. With my heels in one hand, I started again up the stairs. I was about to turn down the last hallway towards my room when I heard a mumbling coming from another corridor. My heart rate sped up immediately as I took a deep breath and headed slowly in the direction of the noise.

"Damn it, Lou, you told me it was here!" I heard the voice hiss under their breath as I came nearer. The speaker confirmed my suspicions that the Wright's had come to seek revenge.

I peeked my head around the corner and down the corridor that was a dead end, but to my dismay saw nobody. I walked more confidently but silently down the corridor and stopped when I saw one of the doors on my left was slightly ajar. Holding my breath, I yanked the door open only to be pulled into the darkness abruptly. A hand clamped over my mouth before I could say a word and the door was shut quietly behind me.

I stared into the pitch black that surrounded me, my mouth still covered, before pushing back forcefully into the person behind me. The grip on my face loosened ever so slightly, so I grabbed the hand and twisted it around, maneuvering my body so I was facing the person. Just as I thought I had the upper hand, my wrists were grabbed and pinned above my head. I twisted my body and flailed as I tried to get out of the grip. I swung my head forward, hoping to have some effect but I hit nothing but air.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," the voice said, tightening his grip on my wrists. My eyebrows raised as I unfortunately recognised the voice.

"Nick?!" I hissed, jerking my body once more, again to no effect. I couldn't yet see his face but I knew that smirk would be sat right on it and it seemed the only thing that could satisfy me in the slightest would be to wipe the damn floor with it.

"The one and only," he replied dryly gripping my wrists in one hand and flicking the light switch. We happened to be in a spare room at the very end of the house which conveniently for me no one used. Great. I'd really put my foot in it this time.

"I could slap you right now," I spat as my eyes adjusted to the light. Slap me down with a wet lettuce, he was smirking. My insides felt like they were twisting around in an ever increasing battle to die of repulsion.

"Too bad you can't," his smirk grew as his eyes flicked up to my clamped hands, "Looks like you're stuck with me, darlin'." I scowled at him, shifting my weight slightly in hopes he wouldn't notice. Unfortunately, as soon as I moved his grip tightened and I was well and truly stuck.

"In reality, you aren't as big as you make yourself out to be without those," he commented, his gaze dropping down to my heels, which were now lying scattered on the floor. My gaze narrowed at him and I swiftly brought my knee up in a final attempt for freedom, only to be blocked by Nick's leg. He shook his head at me, clamping my wrists together more.

"So, what's the plan then?" I wondered, "Why hold me captive?"

"Decoy," Nick replied, shooting me a 'duh' look as he pressed closer to me.

I rolled my eyes, "What for?"

"If I told you, it would spoil all of the fun," he replied deviously, smirking slightly.

My eyes narrowed and we both fell silent. I shut my eyes and leant back on the door, wondering what the Wright's were planning on doing. Soon enough everybody would come looking for me since I was supposedly a decoy. A decoy for what? As I puzzled over the possibilities, I opened my eyes ever so slightly. Peeking through my dark lashes, I could see Nick's face and he too seemed to be thinking also, I wonder what about.

"I can see your eyes open," Nick commented.

My eyes flashed open, "I could see you staring!" I retorted. Nick snorted in return, averting his gaze somewhere else.

"Who were those people in the alleyway and at the fair?" I asked quietly, my words cutting through the silence. His eyes flickered back to me for a moment before moving to the side. I turned my head to follow his face, "I know that they were wanted by the police," I added.

"What's it to you," he asked, his cold eyes narrowing as he looked back towards me.

"How about because they want me too?" I shot back.

"Only because you decided to stick your nose into somebody else's business," he sneered.

"You were in my way," I scoffed in return. He went silent for a while before speaking once more.

"You really want to know why they want me?!" he asked leaning closer to me, his brown eyes darkening ever so slightly. I sucked in a breath, trying to be subtle.

"You don't scare me, Wright," my eyes narrowed as I watched him.

"Oh, but I do, Millie," he began, "I scare you because I'm wanted by one of the biggest gangs in city. I scare you because you watched me beat the shit out of them at the fair. Finally, I scare you because I keep popping up and you have no idea why. In fact, I don't just scare you, I terrify you,"

My breath hitched in my throat and I gulped. Quickly I narrowed my eyes at him and was about to reply until something behind Nick crackled.

Holding my wrists in one hand and pressing his body closer to me as he reached into his back pocket and took out a walkie talkie.

"They're moving out," the female voice on the other end crackles through the hand held device.

"Received," he quickly spoke through the device before sliding it back into his pocket.

"Who's moving out?" I asked as he swapped his arms that were holding my wrists together. He's getting tired, the thought flashed through my mind.

"You ask too many questions," he replied quickly.

"You never answer them," I shot back and he sighed, glancing down.

I took this as my opportunity and brought my head forward and smacked his chest. It wasn't much, and left me a little light headed, but was enough to knock him off balance. This enabled me to twist out of his grip since his arms were weaker than before. He went to grab my shoulders but I ducked underneath. Grabbing the back of his arm, I kneed him in the butt before twisting his arm and flipping him onto the bed. I pinned his arms down with my hands and used my feet to hold down his legs.

I was doing a mini victory dance inside of my head when I noticed the enormous pain was smirking as he lay underneath me. As soon as I thought that, my eyes widened as I realised I was straddling him

"Get over yourself," I scoffed, narrowing my eyes at him once more.

"Well, when there's a pretty girl on top of me..." he began and my breath caught. He's a Wright! Can he not hear what he is saying. All thoughts of what he just said were whooshed out of my mind when I was all of a sudden flipped over and now it was Nick on top of me.

"Gotcha," he smirked, pinning my arms above my head once more.

"That's not fair!" I complained, squirming as he locked my arms in place. He shrugged in return, not fazed at all by our close proximity.

"It's not my fault you're so small,"

I snorted, a smile appearing on my face, "That's what she said," I retorted immaturely. He rolled his eyes, the corners of his mouth turning upwards ever so slightly.

"If you weren't a girl I would kick your ass right now," he replied, chuckling slightly.

"Too bad," I sang, laughing with him, until he stopped abruptly. We both realised who we were and awkwardly avoided each others gazes. I couldn't believe what had just happened as my cheeks blazed. I had just been laughing with Nick Wright, how embarrassing.

I looked back up at him and he seemed to be also having an inward debate. I took this chance and kicked my legs to the side, knocking his lower half off me and twisting my wrists out of his grip. I brought my knee up and kneed him where the sun don't shine before pushing him off of me. I sprinted out of the door and down the halls until I reached the stairs. Checking over my shoulder I couldn't see anyone following me so I ran down the stairs and towards the games room. I knew that that would be where the main booby-trap would be.

As I turned the corner to go down the hallway to the games room I saw the last of my brothers and cousins entering the room. I cursed under my breath and sprinted down the hallway, shouting as I skidded to a halt inside the doorway. Everyone turned around and shot me confused glances, but before I could explain anything a sticky substance, which had fallen from above, covered me.

"Shit," I heard someone say as my mouth opened and I clenched my fists.

"Wrights," I growled and I saw everybody's eyes narrow. Without thinking I turned around and marched out of the door. As I did this, I wad surrounded by a cloud of white. Shutting my eyes, I sneezed as one of the feathers touched my nose. I was covered with feathers and my happiness at the fact that I had defeated Nick Wright was quickly forgotten and swiftly replaced with rage.

Snatching the towel from Jesse, I marched down the hallway as I wiped my face, trying to remove as much of the 'stuff' as possible. We reached the main entrance and my hair was now a sticky mess, my clothes were ruined. I swear when I next get my hands on those Wrights, I'll kick all of their asses.

"This isn't right though, why would they only target one of us?" Isaac wondered as we all stood in the entrance hall. I glanced up the stairs but saw nothing.

Just then we heard a door slam which could have only come from one place, our garage. Everybody rushed off as soon as they heard the door slam.

"Wait!" I called and they all stopped suddenly, "Remember what happened last time," I finished, gesturing down my body at the feathers and gloop. With that, I set off slowly down the hallway, the rest of my siblings and cousins following close behind.

"Shotgun not opening the door!" I whisper shouted as we stood outside the door. This was followed by a chorus of the same as everybody else shotgunned.

"Shotgun not opening the door," Rob shouted last of all. I placed my hands on my hips while Izzy gestured towards the door. Some of the boys sniggered as he walked over to it but we all tensed as he placed his hand on the door handle. He turned it and Tom pushed him inside. We all waited with baited breath as he flicked on the lights.

"Fucking hell, I hate those fucking Wrights," he growled as we all rushed through the door. I gasped as I took in the sight around. Our cars were all covered in dirt, toilet paper and had been vandalised with spray paint. Tom rushed up to his brand new Jaguar and started hyperventilating as he surveyed the damage. My eyes flicked over to my silver Aston Martin, only to see the same damage as had been done to all of the other cars. When I walked more closely, I saw something had been written in red on the windscreen.

Lovely seeing you - N

I scowled and looked up out of the garage door which was open, only to see a group of people running off down the drive. Jace kicked the wheel of his car as Rob sighed and flicked the switch to close the garage doors.

"Fucking Wrights," Jesse growled as he walked around the other cars.

"At least they have done something so we can stop being so edgy," Izzy stated as she brushed some soil off her yellow Ferrari.

Some people mumbled in agreement while others growled in denial. My eyes flickered to the clock, it was ten o'clock, meaning our parents would be back in two hours.

"I'm going to go and shower, you guys start cleaning, we have two hours," I said, motioning to the clock. They all grunted in agreement and started moving around for the cleaning equipment. After one last look at my car, I quickly scrubbed off Nick's note with my fingers before setting off.

"Remember there could be other traps, Millie," I heard someone shout as I left the garage.

I trudged my way upstairs but took a detour on the way to my room. I slowly opened the door to the spare room on which Nick had trapped me. I'm not sure what I was expecting to jump out, but I certainly wasn't expecting the normal spare room that greeted me when I stepped in the room. It was exactly how I had left it, minus a certain Nick Wright; even the light was still on.

I sighed as I looked down at myself, chuckling slightly. I rolled my eyes and exited the room. After I reached my bathroom I stripped off the ruined clothes, throwing them on a heap in the floor and I got in the shower.

After shampooing my hair about fifty times I finished in the shower and got dressed again. I quickly jogged back down stairs towards the garage. When I reached the garage, everybody was finishing washing their cars and Todd was starting on mine. Grabbing a sponge, I got to work on my car.

"You guys should all go to bed, there's no need to wait for me," I told them as I pulled off the toilet paper strips that littered the roof of my car.

They all mumbled tired responses and left the garage. I carried on cleaning and was getting rid of the last of the red paint when I heard a scream from above me.

Turning off the water hose as I ran out of the room, I took the stairs two at a time as I went upstairs. I heard shouting coming from Izzy's room. I stood in the doorway when I reached the room to see a fuming Izzy standing in her pajamas beside her bed.

"What's the matter?!" I asked her as the others ran into the room.

"Look!" she shouted, pointing down at her bed. Glancing down at the bed, I saw some light brown coloured mess inside the sheets.

"What the hell is this?!!" Tom shouted, jumping closer to get a better look.

"I don't know what it is, but its all over me!" Izzy cried, turning around to show her stained pyjamas.

"It smells like Coca Cola," Tom stood up, looking confused. Brent leant forward and rubbed some of the stuff in between his fingers.

"Mixed with sand?" he concluded, brushing the stuff off of his hands.

"Ugh, this is so messed up! Why did we decide to start this mini war?" Izzy questioned as she began to strip her sheets. Brent rubbed his hands together once more.

"It's so sticky!" he cried.

"Be thankful it's not over your whole back!" Izzy commented as she passed him a wet wipe from her dresser.

"Okay everybody, check your sheets before you get in bed. Also, check clothes and shoes, who knows what else those bastards might have done" Jace commented as he walked out of the room, his brow furrowed.

I waved goodnight and walked to my room. Nervously, I peeled back my covers, wincing. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw there was nothing there. Tearing off the covers, I checked for any other booby traps and finally got into bed. I stared up at the ceiling as I thought of why had happened today. Yet another run in with Nick Wright brought me yet another set of feelings which I could not understand. I sighed as I turned onto my side and slowly fell to sleep.
