Chapter 6

(Sorry about the delay. I have a lots going on in my life right now, my grandfather is in the hospital, starting night shifts and so on.)

Perhaps taking Kakashi out to drink was not such a good idea. You looked at Kakashi, who had his arm wrapped around your waist, loudly proclaiming how lucky he was to have such an amazing girlfriend. He'd been doing this for the last hour and you were getting thoroughly irritated with it. It didn't help that no matter how much you argued and said you weren't his girlfriend your group of friends ignored it. They all seemed to be enjoying your discomfort and were only adding fuel to the fire.

When you and Kakashi had first arrived Asuma had done his usual joke, and asked if you were both late because you were being lovely-dovey. And that was what had started this catastrophe, cause Kakashi had decided to go and tell Asuma, loudly enough for EVERYONE to hear, that he'd confessed to you and was waiting for you to simply acknowledge that you did indeed have feeling for him. It had disturbed you when no one had acted even slightly surprised at him having feelings for you, they all seemed more surprised by you not having jumped into his arms. Had he really been that obvious and you had been blind to it?

Since then you had spent most of the night explaining that you didn't feel that way towards Kakashi and reminding people of you beliefs about relationships, not to mention having to dodge Kakashi's affections. So much for your hope that he would behave in front of others. Every time you evaded him people would chuckle at how cute your 'shyness' was or would pat Kakashi on the back telling him to not give up and would give him another drink. You had finally allowed him to catch you and wrap his arm around you for fear of him getting alcohol poisoning.

"Utaaaa you're so cuuuuute." Kakashi's alcohol soaked breath fanned across your face as he paid you yet another drunken compliment. "Yeah yeah. I'm freaken adorable. Drink your cranberry juice Kakashi." You pushed his glass of cranberry juice up to his mouth and he gladly drank it with your help. He made a face as he drank the last of it, "Ugh why are you making me drink something sooo sour?" You set the glass on the bar and signalled the bartender that you wanted to order another one, "Cause it's good for you and it'll help fight off a hangover better than just water will. Or do you want to be hungover for your first day of missions with your new team tomorrow?" He sighed dramatically, "It's only D ranked missions..." You grabbed the refilled glass and pressed it into his hand, "That's no way to be thinking. If you want your genin to take those missions seriously then you need to take them seriously too." Kakashi stared at you for several moments. You pushed his glass up to his lips and he obediently drank a few gulps before lowering the glass, "You'd make a much better sensei than I would. It's a shame that you won't go on missions anymore." You tensed. You had thought about going on missions again, but even on the few D and C ranked missions you'd gone on in the past year you'd have flashbacks to the moment your chakra passed through your own brother's heart.

You shook your head violently, "I don't think I'll be able to go on any missions any time soon, but maybe one day I'll be able to..." Kakashi squeezed your waist, "I didn't mean to make you sad." He set his glass down and pinched your cheek, "Cheer up and get your cute face back here!" He began squishing your face and you couldn't help but start laughing, "Ok, ok I get it so stop it!" Kakashi stopped squishing your face and you felt his masked lips press to your forehead. He leaned back and smiled, "Much better!" Your heart squeezed. Kakashi was such a good man and he always made you feel better. He deserved nothing but happiness, especially after his own painful past. You wanted to see him happy. You blushed and looked away from his face and clutched your hand in your shirt in front of your heart. Though you wouldn't admit it out loud, you knew that you had feelings for him that went far beyond simple friendship. Was it love? You weren't sure. The one boy you had dated when you were younger had never given you feelings like these.

You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn't notice Kakashi finish his glass and set it down. He snapped you out of your thoughts when he wrapped his other arm around you in a hug and he rested his head against your shoulder, "I'm tired Uta. Will you take me home?" You were tense for a moment, but chuckled when you realized that he didn't have ulterior motives, "Yeah, I'll take you home Kakashi." You sat him down on a chair, "Stay here, I'll go grab our stuff." You quickly moved over to the bench that had become the storage spot for bags and coats that people had brought. You quickly dug through the pile and grabbed Kakashi's vest. You also grabbed your bag, but you noticed that it was open. That was odd, you were sure you had closed it quite securely before putting it on the bench. You peeked into and you noticed something that made panic start to wash over you. Your notebook was at the top of the bag and was opened to the most recent pages. You never left the notebook open to a page. Someone had clearly gone through your bag and had found your notebook. Had they read its contents? You pushed it slightly and noticed that most of the pages were ruffled, showing that someone had flipped through each and every page. You looked up at the crowd of people around you fearing that they'd all be whispering about you and pointing at you. However no one was even looking in your direction other than a very drunk Kakashi from across the room. There was no way that it was Kakashi, cause you had been with him all night...well most of the night. There were some periods of time that you and Kakashi hadn't been near each other...

You shook your head and quickly began closing your bag. No way would Kakashi go through your bag and read your notebook. Or if he had he would've said so. You knew you could trust him not to betray you. You paused. If you had such absolute faith that he wouldn't betray you with something like this, which was something that could completely destroy what little of a good reputation you still had, why did you feel like you couldn't trust him to not betray your heart? Maybe having had a few drinks yourself wasn't such a good idea either...

You slung your bag over your shoulder and quickly returned to Kakashi's side with his vest. You roughly shoved it into his hands, "Let's get out of here." Even in his drunk state he could tell something was bugging you, "What's wrong Uta?" You pulled him to his feet and started tugging him towards the door, not even waiting for him to pull his vest on, your eyes continuing to dart around the faces in the room hoping to spot who had gone into your bag, "Someone went through my bag and read my notebook." He tried to make your stop, "What? Who would do that to you?" He was looking around the room now too. You shook your head, "I don't know who, but please, let's go." Kakashi didn't budge, so your dug your nails into his wrist and began dragging him, "But Uta-" "They probably already left. I don't see anyone here that looks guilty of it, but just in case, I really don't want to run into whoever read it right now." Kakashi finally began following you. Once you were both outside you released his wrist and he put on his vest.

He rubbed his wrist were your nails had drawn blood and you felt a wave of shame wash over you. You reached out and gently touched the marks, "I'm sorry." Kakashi caught your hand and raised it to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss, "It's alright Uta, it doesn't hurt much. But what have you got written in there that has you so panicked about whether or not someone read it?" You looked down, "Something that could destroy my reputation..." Kakashi waited for you to continue, but this was one thing that you wouldn't tell even Kakashi. His waiting game wasn't going to make you break down and tell him this time. You could feel the apprehension coming from Kakashi when he realized that you weren't going to tell him. He let go of your hand, "What are you hiding from me Uta?" You remained silent, "Uta I can't help you if you won't tell me." You looked up into his eyes, "There are somethings you don't need to know Kakashi." The look of hurt that flashed into his eye made you flinch. He hadn't even looked that hurt when you'd rejected his confession. He took a deep breath and turned away from you, "I thought we told each other everything Uta. I thought at least you and I didn't have secrets. But I guess I was wrong. Goodnight." He did a hand sign and was gone in a puff of smoke, which wasn't good considering his drunk state.

You kicked a garbage can that was nearby, sending it flying "DAMMIT!!!"

You were so upset with everything that had just happened that you didn't notice the figure in the dark alley that was watching you with a wicked smile playing on their lips.
