Chapter 20
(Hey everyone, So I'm going to away from the lemony goodness for a little while, gunna get into a darker part of this story for a while. Just a heads up.)
You swallowed nervously as you stared at the Hokage from across the desk. It had been a few days since Kakashi had left you to train his team. He hadn't shown up until midafternoon. In his defence he had been caught by Asuma to discuss the upcoming exams.
He'd been called in earlier today with the other sensei's to nominate his team. And why were you here? Kakashi had let slip to the Hokage that you had trained with his team, and that you had shown some interest in helping to train. The Hokage had summoned you in to speak about it. Why were you nervous? Because you knew that to become a sensei you had to pass your own test, to see if you could handle the pressure, and you honestly didn't know if you could.
Sarutobi took his hat off and set it on his desk, levelling his gaze on you, "So, I've heard that you have taken a shine to team 7. You've even taken on a mission for them. Are you wanting to train your own team?" You jumped slightly. "Uhm...no. I don't think I'd be...ready for that. I do enjoy training the genin, but I still have issues with missions. I froze up a bit when I went on the mission to the land of waves. I am not confident in my abilities to protect a team if things got bad...What if I froze again?"
Sarutobi tented his hands in front of his face, "So we perhaps need to ease you back into duty?" You fidgeted, "I'm not sure what I'm even capable of anymore..." Sarutobi closed his eyes and thought silently for a few moments. "How about security?" "Sir?"
"Security. I'm sure Kakashi has informed you of the approaching exams." You nodded. "Then I'd like for you to act as security. We'll be needing security around the test sights."
You looked down at your hands. Security around the test locations? That might not be too bad. After all, no one would dare attack Konoha, at least not inside the very walls when nobles would be present. You nodded, "I would be honoured sir." The Hokage sighed, "Uta...there really isn't the need to be so formal with me. I am your godfather after all." You smiled shyly, "True, but you are also the Hokage. What if someone heard me being informal to you? After all, it isn't common knowledge, even within the village, that you're my godfather." Sarutobi chuckled, "Always worried about keeping your defenses up. You get that from your father. Speaking of, he and your mother would like for you to visit soon. I can arrange a mission to their village. Say...to check conditions. Since it would be bad for one of the villages under our protection were to deteriorate. So you'd have to take care of any problems, on the off chance that there are any." He winked and you couldn't suppress your giggle. "I suppose I should visit. I haven't seen them since....Well since Usa..." Sarutobi held up his hand, "I know. For your sake along with theirs you should go visit. I'll arrange for the mission tomorrow if you don't have other plans. You'll have to go alone though since Kakashi will be busy preparing his team." Your cheeks heated up, "Uhm...that might be for the best. I don't think Kakashi's and my relationship are ready for...my parents. I mean...his students don't even know yet..."
Sarutobi sat back in his chair and laughed, "You two act like a couple of teenagers, all shy and giggly. I never thought I'd live to see this day. It's nice to finally see you actually happy. You haven't been happy since before you came here...You allow the wrongs of the world to stay with you for too long and you tend to forget to live. So it makes this old man happy to finally see you living again." Your face heated up more and more as he talked. You began waving your hands in front of your face, "Aaaah Sarutobi-saan! No more! Please don't say anymore!"
He laughed harder as you covered your face. Once he quietened down you managed to get your voice to squeak out a request, "Can I be excused now?" Sarutobi cleared his throat, "Yes, I suppose so. I'll have someone bring you the details of your 'mission' for tomorrow. And I'll notify the other members of the security detail that you'll be joining." You stood up and bowed deeply, managing to get your blush under control at last, "Thank you sir." You walked over to the door and opened it, seeing Genma holding a stack of papers, "Ah Uta-san." You bowed your head slightly, stepping aside to let him through, "Good to see you Shiranui-san." As he walked past you to the Hokage's desk he muttered a thank you. You walked out of the room planning to head home and prepare for your visit home.
~~~Third POV~~~
Genma turned and watched as Uta walked out of sight. He waited until she was out of earshot before speaking, "Are you sure it's a good idea to send her there with the problems that have come up?" Sarutobi leaned on the desk with his hands folded in front of his face. "Yes...She is the best ninja to deal with the ones causing the problems. She'll do whatever it takes to protect her family... I just hope that it reawakens her instead of destroying her. This mission will either give us one of our best shinobi back or we will lose her forever..."
Genma glanced over his shoulder to look at the Hokage, "If so much is resting on this, then why send her alone? Why not send Kakashi with her? His team can handle being without him for a few days." Sarutobi closed his eyes and pushed a breath from his nose, "She has to do this on her own. Kakashi would shield her too much."
Genma turned back to face where Uta had been, "I hope she is alright."
(Alright so the mission itself is kinda a filler chapter, so I will be posting it in a separate 'book'. I just feel that it'd be better for me to continue with the main story line, since this isn't a terribly long story. I'll try to post it along with the regular story.)
