Chapter VI

Conner made it through the first day of seminar okay. He was already tired of the painful writing exercises. They were awful.

He packed up his stuff and stood up out of his chair. When his eye level became higher than the barricades between desks he noticed a familiar face staring at him. Flirtatiously.

It was the girl from earlier, Bella.

"Hi, Conner," she said, walking over to him, making sure to toss her hair with every step. "I didn't see you there."

"Sure you didn't," Conner muttered and grabbed his coffee cup off the table, his last possession there. "Well, I need to go. It was nice running into you again."

"It's always my pleasure," she said slowly and seductively.

Conner smiled sickly and walked out of the room. He couldn't stand seductive girls. Especially ones that were into him. He had Bree to see, and with thoughts of her in his head, he walked to her flat with a happy smile.

Bree was very frustrated when Conner walked in the flat.

"Ugh!" she shouted as he opened the door. He quickly stepped in and closed the door.

"What's wrong?" he asked, setting his stuff down by the couch and sitting next to her.

"I have writer's block!" Bree shouted in frustration, and Conner pulled the laptop that was resting on the couch next to her away from her and shutting the top.

If this had been Conner, he would have waited and let it pass, using some exercises to get over it. But for Bree, this was bad. She couldn't have writer's block, not now. She had to get a certain number of chapters in by that Saturday, and she was working furiously to meet the quota.

"Oh," Conner said. "I have some writing exercises-"

"No," Bree said and got off the couch, walking to the kitchen and then turning around and back again. "No, no! What I need is for you to give me suggestions." She motioned to her laptop. "Open it up and read it."

Conner picked the laptop up and opened it. He typed in the password and started reading. Bree came over and told him where to start from and he did. He read what he girlfriend wrote, smiling and laughing and frowning, making the perfect silent audience.

When he was done, he looked up.

"This is really good," he said, seeing Bree take a banana out of the fridge and peel it open. "I mean, you'll edit it later, but the plot is good." Bree took a big bite of the banana. "I think the characters moods stay consistent and proper during the crisis." Bree took another big bite of banana. "I think the suspense is accurate for the situation." Bree finished the banana with a third bite. "I like how the characters react in some places rather than others." Bree threw the peel into the trash and walked over to Conner.

"Thank you," she said and sat down next to him. "I appreciate it."

Conner didn't know if it was the lighting, but he thought he could see a slight pinkish tint in Bree's cheeks.
